| | whats the best email client for XP and/or Windows 7?Page 1 of 1 | Hey everyone
I am using the LIVE MAIL that comes with XP but its garbage, I keep unmarking spam and marking spam yet the emails from the same senders go to the wrong place. I am lookign for a good program that has an effective spam/bulk filter but also allows you to unmark and puts the email into the correct folder the next time.
Any suggestions? | |

You can turn off junk filtering if you take the time to explore the options that Live Mail offers.
I do not find Live Mail works well as an IMAP client, at least not with GMail, it works better if you use POP collection methods.
If you want Outlook instead then install that component from Microsoft Office.
A decent standalone program would be Pocomail.

The app is slow, buggy and has ads. Its advantages is it links with your hotmail/msn contacts. My preference is Thunderbird. Like firefox you can add abilities with extensions and change its look. I like the Outlook 2003 skin for it. Personally I would recommend using gmail. Its feature rich, and totally open. If you have a smart phone its a good solution to keep your mail in sync. If you have a ISP mail account such as shaw.ca or telus.net you can set gmail to get your mail so its in gmail instead and if you don't want to switch people to a new email address you can set gmail to send out email as your current email address. IE say your email address is bobhope@shaw.ca when you finish setting it up gmail can send email off as bobhope@shaw.ca.
Advantages to using webmail like gmail - Access to email anywhere you have internet - Less stress on your hard drive and file system. Email messages are tiny and create tons of tiny files on your hard drive. It will cause fragmentation. - Less chance of being infected with a virus, you can view a message with out it being already downloaded on your computer to do harm. Not 100% safe with webmail, if you decide to download attachments your just as hooped. - unlimited space for the most part, you never have to delete anything - Less stuff to scan for your antivirus on your computer when you do a full scan of your hard drive - Risk of losing emails from a hard drive failure is zero - If you make full use of gmail as one example you can use the contacts and calendar to sync to smart phones, multiple computers.

Posted: 10/21/2010 8:18:16 PM | I no longer use an email client like that, I got fed up with Outlook and Thunderbird was always 90% fanboy tosh and about 8% truth as it its performance benifits... It was compared to a shitbox piece of software (Outlook and Outlook Express), so it was always going to perform better... Its rather like being a race horse in a lineup of dray horses
Now I use Hotmail in IE8 x64, and never have a problem, all my mail is forwarded to my hotmail account, and I can reply to mail from my hotmail account but it apears as though it came from my gmail account if thats where the mail came from.
It isnt what a browser is for of course, but its always better to use the mail servers capabilities, rather than those of a client on your own PC, its never going to be as good.
