| | Fake user / scammer?Page 1 of 1 | I recently got, in my regular email, a message from POF that said "(username) wants to meet you!" I click on the link, and instead of taking me to the users profile, it just takes me directly to the main POF screen. I did a search for (username), and she doesn't exist. It's happened twice in the last 2 days, both times for the same username.
Was wondering if anyone else had this happen? Don't know if POF is making this mistake, or it's some kind of scammer.

Just keep fishing

| Fake user / scammer? Posted: 12/18/2010 8:10:15 AM | If you login and than view the profile it will show the profile even if the user is hidden I have had several "Meet Me" emails where I was not able to search for the user via "Search / User_name"
Most recent was last night.
Not logged-in, search for name - No profile found.
Logged-in, searched - No profile found.
I have had it happen a couple times where I could not find them in a username search BUT everytime I could see their profile via the link included in the email telling me she wanted to meet me. I think that is indicating hidden profile.

| Fake user / scammer? Posted: 1/11/2011 10:12:08 AM | I do not think it's a scammer.
The whole site is automated.
I think you were probably contacted by the system after someone clicked on an image of you saying that they were interested or "maybe" interested in meeting you....based solely on your photo. Then the system contacts you , telling you that this person would like to meet you... so then you look up their profile and then they are notified that you checked them out.... Which implies your interest in them. Get it? Look for the user in a link sharing profiles of women who have expressed an interest in you. There is also a possibility that the user you are trying to contact has rendered their profile "invisible"
Hang in there. Nancy | |

| Fake user / scammer? Posted: 1/18/2011 11:21:40 PM | one of them contacted me through meet me method. They told me one hell of a pathetic story about their sad life. they were hoping that i would volunteer to send them some money. LOL i kept talking to them just to get a kick out of it and for my own amusement.
After when i got bored, I stopped talking to her
Can't believe scammers can also find their way to POF!!!

Why would that be surprising? POF isn't invincible. Scammers are on most sites.

| Fake user / scammer? Posted: 12/6/2012 4:34:30 PM | exact thing happened to me, i search for this username and it took me to the home page. in the last three weeks or so, i have gotten "(user) wants to meet you" and it's been about 3 or so different women. all have been missing profiles, the url just takes you to the home page and in name search as well.
maybe when someone deletes his/her profile a glitch sends out this meet me invitation, can't think of any reasonable explanation

| Fake user / scammer? Posted: 12/8/2012 1:13:24 AM | | Yeah i got one of those the other day saing hi i think you are cute and i love your profile i don't come on here much so you can reach me at blah blah blah @ yahoo.com I was pretty sure it was a spam bot just by the redundent line in the messege. So i asked if this was a spam bot just to make sure and sure enough it was i got the same message again. lol You'd think these spam programers can come u with a more clever line then telling me i'm cute and they liked my profile and they don't come on here much so they want me to contact them through e-mail from now on. lol Gee wonder why, so my e-mail i contact them on can get blasted with spam..... | |

maybe when someone deletes his/her profile a glitch sends out this meet me invitation, can't think of any reasonable explanation Or here is a much more realistic explanation. POF is nuking the spammers so fast they are deleted by the Admin before you get a chance to even look them up!
