OLD PASSWORD EXPIRED - PROMPT for NEW Password AND Login related problemsPage 1 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
Has anyone else had this happen? I logged off for a while and when I logged back on about an hour later I saw this message: "your Plenty of fish password has expired". I was then presented a box to enter my old password and then enter a new one twice...

Never seen this before...

How To Change Your Password:

PLEASE NOTE: Some browsers, (Firefox, reported so far), depending on how a user has it set up, will default (prefill) your POF Userid in the OLD Password field. Simply type over it with your OLD Password (i.e. the current PW that you used to login intially to get to the PW Reset Screen, then enter your NEW password in both the indicated areas.

PLEASE NOTE: If things have changed from the original time this HELP was posted, unfortunately we (moderators) can't HELP further as we have changed our passwords based on the above already and cannot recreate what it is you see if it's not the above. We are not advised of what is happening behond the scenes, nor do we control any part of it - we simply respond to what we see at the same time you see it.

If you've totally forgotton what your old/current password is, have your password emailed to you HERE, or check one of your My Matches emails that were mailed to you in the past if you still have one.

If you're having any issues beyond entering the correct information in the right spots - click HERE to Edit Your Profile and change it there at the bottom of the page. (Technically this will work if you are on that page and click Edit Your Profile)

Failing any of the above please write to Customer Service HERE

First time I saw it as well. Hopefully this change will include the demise of the PoF email reminding us of our password.

If so, very good.

Edit to add: vvv Best guess is that PoF is implementing a new password sercurity code....or some such thing. Worst guess would be that they were hacked.

Yup, new.
Maybe that's a good way to eliminate dormant profiles that have been on for years after the members quit.
You can use your old password as new though, no reason to invent a new one

Until we get confirmation from someone actually AFFILIATED with POF... I'm not going to monkey around with changing my password! I'm afraid that someone might be trying to gain access to my account, then will start sending ugly e-mails to people... can't let THAT happen!
Of course, no women ever E-MAIL me, (except for one recently, and ironically enough, she's posted to this thread!), so I have no reason to check my mail!:D

I don't mind being forced to change it. The problem is it won't let me change it, won't let me log in no matter what now, but lets me log into the forums, strangely.

Same problem: No matter how I try to do it, it's not accepting my new password. I had POF resend my password just for kicks, and its the "old password" even though I've attempted to change numerous times. My browser accepts the change, just not POF.

Make sure you all enter your old pass word where your user name is and then the new pass word twice below that.....worked fine for me....after I realized that i had done it wrong at first.

The last New Matches email I received did not contain my password. All of the previous New Matches email from PoF in my Deleted folder did have a reminder of what my password was. Someone pointed this out as a security problem in a different thread. It looks, to me, like the mods are forcing everyone to change their password as part of an update to remove it from being emailed out. So that the passwords are more private.

If someone does not remember their old password; it can be recovered in Firefox. Click Tools > Options > Security icon > Saved Passwords button > Show Passwords button.

Thanks for making it more clear. I thought it was strange my user ID was provided in the top password field.

lol...um...
I need to change all my passwords where I work every 90 days.
BUT They need to CHANGE.

how is entering your old password three times more secure?
nothing changed.
what's the point then?

I changed mine, and I really don't care, but it seems like an odd thing to do.

just sayin'

I work in a corporate environment, IT department in fact, where we change our passwords every 4 weeks yet am always concerned when unexpected password requests appear.

I have been a member for a few years and have not seen this before hence the caution and the need for this topic in the forum.

I'm glad there are tougher security sanctions in place but would like to know how often this is going to happen.

The weird thing is that I could access everything else, edit my profile, check sent messages, log on and post on the forum.... Just not check my inbox.

No that doesn't work it's saying I have 8digits in my passwork and I only have 7 and when I have it sent to my email address it's the same one 7digits so why is it telling me I have 8 in the one line?

People need to read the boxes

the top box is not USERNAME but OLD PASSWORD so type your password in and then put the new password in (can be the same)

With Firefox browser, as I had my P/W stored in the broswer for the site, when it prompted me to change my password, I noticed it put my user name (Railrunner) in the OLD password field.

Took two tried before I noticed that!

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but have you checked that there isn't a SPACE infront of your password? It will count as a character if there is.

To the Mods.........you're welcome to a glass of proper wine.......or even something stronger if you prefer.......looks like you guys may need it!

jeepers you guys.
I have to do online banking, tax paying, unemployment verification,
payroll, INS access and a bunch of other stuff on a daily basis at work.
Some of these places give you a number of sign ons before you have to
change your password. Others go by date. I've never had one that lasted
more than 6 months...I have to change them constantly without using
any number or letters I've used before.

I've been on fishes for decades and this is the first time I've been asked this
I was only surprised it took so long.

ahahahahahahahahaha!

Ok since some of you can NOT read

The top field says ENTER OLD PASSWORD>> It has your username in it... DELETE THAT

Now enter your OLD password into that slot

The 2 proceeding lines can be that of a new password, or the SAME OLD PASSWORD YOU HAD PRIOR

*The most important thing that many of you aren't grasping is that your Username NEEDS TO BE DELETED from the very first field*

OMG!!! I'm far from computer savvy but why are so many stressing about this?

Just type the thing in! Geeeeez. lol.

I didnt really give it a second thought. It just reminded me of my office days where it was routine to change your password every few weeks. No drama. Takes 5 seconds.

Haha and where different apps require a separate password, but they never run out at the same time? I don't even have the option of being able to change my passwords together, at work and too many attempts lock you out. Now that's annoying.

LMAO at the new name of this thread.

You spelt wine wrong or was it deliberately spelt whine , as in complain? Hahaha

Yep, Molly, where I worked we had a different password for every different computer in the office, and yes, too many attempts locked you out. LOL.
