| Plentyoffish IM Posted: 5/30/2011 2:42:23 PM | off to test it now - cheers
testing... hmmm.... where is the spot for our pic to be shown during conversation? normally doesnt it show a pic of the person you're talking to and a photo of yourself?
i also LOVE how you can have mulitple conversations running in 1 window with tabs instead of a bunch of different pop ups
also to be a bit nitpicky, i wanted to point out the large image of our friend we are connected to... it squishes their photo a bit... for lack of better term - funny
**** the one thing i would do is add sounds... ie: typing sounds or a beep or something when they message you back... - almost maybe make the window flash when theres a message (in the bottom tabs part of the page) - does that make sense?
it also would be cool if it would sort folks on your chat list according to if they are online / offline - basically move them to the bottom of the list if they go offline - edited to add: i see there is a place to have chat sounds enabled... which i do have enabled - but it is still silent... hmmmm
opps and i'll have to test again but i think once you've gone live to cams, if you shut the cam window it totally closes the chat window - i'll test that again soon to verify

| Plentyoffish IM Posted: 5/30/2011 8:47:04 PM | | Wow, slow! The new IM system does not show if the other person is typing or not either. | |
|
| Plentyoffish IM Posted: 5/31/2011 4:52:12 AM | | ahhh yes, that was an excellent feature on the old one | |
|
| Plentyoffish IM Posted: 5/31/2011 5:31:37 AM | based on actual experience with people I know that live on these chat programs all day I think the most useful feature would be to know how many chat windows they had open talking to other people while chatting with you. (wink)

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/1/2011 12:13:50 AM | I ran into an issue where it kept telling me that my session expired and that I needed to log back in again. Actually logging out and back into PoF did not do anything. I ended up just being lazy and clearing all of my cookies (I'm assuming clearing just PoF's cookie would have sufficed). It seems to work now, but I hope I won't have to do that often... that would be rather troublesome . | |

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/1/2011 4:48:01 AM | Just tried the new messenger - very slow, jerky, it didn't register all the keystrokes, can't see when the other person is typing. (I like the fact that this one has time/date stamps not all bad!!)
Whilst the old messenger wasn't perfect (no time stamps in particular) at least it didn't stick like this new one. Hopefully this is just a teething problem with it being new!
I am on W7 64bit, IE8. | |

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/1/2011 9:24:28 AM | I have been able to 'chat' with the new beta app, but here is what they need to fix. A little box does pop up that says this user wants to chat, and you select yes or no.
The problem with that is there is no sound that you can hear and the pop-up box only shows on the POF page. I don't live on the POF page, I always have several other pages open, so unless I sit and star at the pages on POF, I don't see and definitely don't hear any sounds that indicates someone wants to chat.
Isn't there supposed to be sounds? Why does the popup only show on the POF page?

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/1/2011 10:49:23 AM | The app is NEW this thread is to work out "possible" bugs. It may take days or weeks.
At least Markus says we wrote this one unlike the last IM app we had here (userplane) so that HOPEFULLY we will be able to get this one sorted out better.
This is NOT going to probably be a quick fix for some problems. Soo everyone be patient and focus on thebig picture here. At least this time we wrote and own the software so it will hopefully be able too be fixed down the road at some point and will be usable by more people. The last chat tool was just flaky and often worked for no one here for weeks at a time and never worked for many at all.
We want constructive posts DETAILING problems your having as well as suggestions for enhancements. Demands to return to the old IM tool will simply be deleted. We are not returning to userplane. The goal here to get the bugs out of the new Instant Messenger tool developed by POF.

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/1/2011 11:22:13 AM | I'm honestly not to sure about how to make a post, whether it's the "post reply" button or something I haven't found yet. So excuse me if this actually responds to someones post instead of simply posting a new comment.
The new chat definitely has some bugs that need fixed. A lot of times when I try chatting with someone the chat box/invite won't appear on their screen. It's happened to me as well where she claims to have written to me and nothing appeared. It took me several tries yesterday before we were able to chat. I'm also curious if I'm the only one having difficulties with the webcam option. We both had our webcams plugged in and ready to go but for some odd reason the window for it would pop up and say neither pf us had webcams. Has this problem occurred with anyone else, or am I just one of few?
I noticed a few people had trouble with the sound or alert as you may call it; I figured out a way to make it work. If you're talking to one person you only get the alert once, but try starting a new chat, even if you're not actually talking to that particular person. Just open a new chat leave both open. When you're waiting for a response click on the other chat tab. When the person you're chatting with responds you'll hear the alert. I guess it might not be the best method but it's worked for me. I'll be reading through this forum quite a bit, so let me know if it works for you or if you'd like me to explain a little better.

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/2/2011 9:50:00 AM | ^^^ Your basically beta testing a newly written application and it may not be all sorted out for a couple MONTHS here. Please post SUGGESTIONS for new features as well as bugs in the existing software. We appreciate your feedback.
Demands of any type such as to bring back the old software will be deleted on sight.
If the IM is not working for you verify you have a recent copy of adobe flash. Popup blockers are disabled. Post details of what EXACTLY happens when you try and IM and include details of your platform such as OS, browsers tried etc... TRY A DIFFERENT browser if possible! If you use IE try FireFox. There appears to be probs for example right now with Chrome so try another browser for now while that is worked on.
And PLEASE read the previous comments before you post! If the problem has already been reported don't just basicaly say "Yeah ME TOO!"
We do not need to waste space here reporting the same suggestion (like adding a sound when you get an IM) Over and Over! We got it already.

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/3/2011 8:39:53 AM | | I don't hear a noise signal when I send out the message on IM. So, I'm sure the other person will not hear if they get an IM if they are not near the computer. I see the member pic in the same In window. I guess they compile in on place. If I were to IM with more than one, there should be a way to differ between the two. Like one lights up with a signal when that member is sending a IM. Also the other platform had the ABC so you were able to see when the other party was typing to you. | |

| Plentyoffish has a NEW INSTANT MESSENGER 5-31-2011 Post comments or problems on IM HERE ! Posted: 6/3/2011 12:12:05 PM | Main problems I have noticed with the new chat window.
It seems to pop up, sometimes behind the main website and I cannot see it, I tried chatting with someone both last night and today and it kept asking multiple times to accept the chat in a small window on the bottom right of my screen.. if the chat window gets moved to the background the other person or myself has no way to know if a message has been sent or received. Closing the chat and re-opening it doesn't see m to log you out.. so if someone loses you you can't try to start a new chat to reconnect to them.. it just keeps you logged into the old one.. even logging out of the site and back in doesn't help.
In the future you may want to have some folks beta test new features instead of doing live testing for everyone.. I personally never had any issues with the last one.

I personally never had any issues with the last one. I personally never had any issues with the last one Lucky you we had a 70 page long thread on the old one that would quit working for some for weeks at a time and never worked for many at all.
The old was a leased piece of software so it could not be modified and made support difficult. Admin has said they did write this one but tracking the problems down will take a awhile for reasons that should be obvious.
Extensive testing for a product like this on a many platforms and configurations possible with a very small staff would not of been prudent in this case.
I am thrilled we actually wrote and control this software so that we have a chance at having something that hopefully work correctly for most of us even if it takes a few weeks to get most the major glitches out. The old one was just beyond flaky.
