| Sad news from Holland Posted: 11/2/2004 4:53:00 PM | Today a Dutch movie-maker / interviewer / television-personality has been killed in Amsterdam.
Due to his believe in freedom of speech he insulted people on a regular basis, just to start debates.
A young man from African origin shot him in the streets of Amsterdam this morning.
This will have a great impact on the Dutch society. Even more on how the different religious groups will be able to except each others way of living. Some say that the famous Dutch tolerance has been violated that bad, it will never be the same no more.
This is a very black day in the history of the Netherlands.

| Sad news from Holland Posted: 11/2/2004 5:25:39 PM | | Sorry to hear that Tom, freedom of speach is not really that free any more, its a "if you speak out and someone disagrees expect repercusions" kinda thing anymore, even the usa government dont give freedom of speach like they should, its become a *conditional* freedom of speach thing, and must be politically correct half the time | |

| Sad news from Holland Posted: 11/3/2004 8:29:39 AM | Yes Raoul, the police arrested him within 15 minutes or something short like that.
Yes Guitarman, what you mention is one of his recent films. But he reacted on any religion with a critical eye and a sharp tongue.
I heard that the newsbulletins tonight will have this sad event as a main item. It's not only this man who has been killed, it's the rather peaceful way of living here that has been violated.

| Sad news from Holland Posted: 1/8/2009 2:30:05 PM | Theo van Gogh was a disgusting figure, didn't deserve to be killed though. I remember when i was a teenager, I sold him a pint of italian icecream he stuffed it in his gut in like 2 seconds, demanded some more and didn't even tip. also he had no talent imo, he was just.., well, trendy to like or dislike.
That day was more like a light shade of gray, not black. people die, it's natural. I'd be more upset about children starving to death every day.

| Sad news from Holland Posted: 1/12/2009 5:33:52 PM | Ah come on Kikoro
He gave me indigestion too, just listening to his abrasive tone but in no way was it natural to be stabbed and shot, I am afraid you are mixing stuff right up.
To die of old age is natural, to die of an illness is even natural, but to die and have a radical Islamic message attached to the knife that is left stuck in your body on the street where you was murdered, is not natural in any far-fetched way at all.
Whether you like a person or not, to be murdered the way he was, is tragic, not natural and to compare such a death with other tragedies in the world has no relevance at all.
