Posted: 12/21/2011 6:33:36 AM | I have someone BLOCKED and I just recieved a chat request from them (which of course I ignored) but I thought BLOCKED meant they could not contact me in anyway????
Blocking on this site simply refers to eMail - unfortunately it is not tied into the the chat feature - yet anyway - email csr@pof.com.

What does it mean if under a person's picture there is the word Chat with a number in parenthesis? For instance (1).
The "Chat" means they have chat turned on.
The (1) It means that they have an "interest" in common with yourself, ie. you both have "Stuff" listed in your interests.
From the My Matches page:
(1) = One interest in common. If you don't have interests specified on your profile you will not have interests in common with anyone. | |

I logged off around 7:30pm and at around 11pm I was out with some friends, one of them was checking his POF account and he says to me "hey your're online chatting" So, either someone hacked my account (not very likely) or the status isn't accurate. So . . . . this made me think that perhaps the Red Chat/dot means that the person is on and currently chatting.
Since there seem to be several confusing questions and answers about this, may I suggest that someone clearly write the instructions and the meanings and put it in the regular Plenty of Chat area? I've looked at answers and links and other questions and still am not at all sure what to think.

I am also confused about the Chat, Online, Red Dots. I thought that if the person's name had a Red Chat/dot that meant that they wanted to chat. However, I asked someone about it and he said he didn't like being interrupted when he was chatting. So . . . . this made me think that perhaps the Red Chat/dot means that the person is on and currently chatting. It is really only complicated because you are making it that way. Msg 2 covered it pefectly and completely.
Chat means they simply are online and have chat enabled. There is no way to tell if someone is already chatting with someone. And msg 4 clearly stated this. Not sure how you are confused. Did you actually READ through this thread? All your question were clearly answered in the first half dozen posts. Do not assume or add to anything stated.

Online means they are online or have been within the last 15 minutes
chat means they are both online and have the chat enabled.
You can not tell if someone is already chatting. Although I think it would be interesting is they would display a number next to the chat label indicating HOW MANY people they were already chatting with. Seeing as how many on here chat with a dozen people simultaneously. I call them chataholics. We are developing a 12 step program to help them
Oh, one more thing. I notice that some names in my Connection/Chat area are underlined and others are not. Does THIS mean anything? I have never seen this unless it was characters in someones name. Assume it has no significance. You really are way over thinking this. There are not a lot of secret hidden meanings in the labels. | |

ALL you can ever tell is that they have chat enabled.
