Posted: 11/5/2004 10:34:52 AM | | We should make tobacco illegal, but turn a blind eye toward it. The drug dealers can all sell cigarettes to everyone, instead of more dangerous elements, because they would make the same, maybe more profit, with less risk. And our drug problems go down. | |

Posted: 11/5/2004 8:18:54 PM | | I see nothing wrong with it being legal so long as a age limit is imposed, taxes are placed on it like alcohol and cigarettes, and its against the law to drive under the influence.....I can say and am not ashamed of it that I have insomnia problems, and i know that the times i did do weed it helped me sleep specially on those days where i was going on 72 hours without sleep...works better then the sleeping pills...but if you want to be against it being legal and say make cigarettes illegal then i say do alcohol illegal as well for its just as bad as the others... | |

Posted: 11/6/2004 7:09:58 AM | No...weed is illegal cause they don't have a "roadside test" as they do with alcohol to see if you are under the influence. The moment they DO have that, driving while under the influence will be illegal, as it is with alcohol, and it will be TAXED just like cigs and booze are now. (I want a concession for that product with a protected market!)
The taxation system, and the distribution network, and the licencing to grow (and other paperwork), and the growers are all in place NOW.....just waiting for a small breakthrough for testing, and we will have it legalized. | |

GRRRR!!! ... also what benifit will it really have on socity as a whole... i got buddys that i have to show concert stubbs and pics of them at the show to prove they were there... really?? we went and seen cheep trick? wow... well was it a good show? I think it is much like alcohol one of them drugs you dont see the dammage until years later... just my thoughts. | |

Alcohol is a more dangerous substance; it's addictive, toxic and kills brain cells, pot doesbn't do any of those things and according to Health Canada is no more a health risk than smoking tobacco. That being said decriminalizing pot and legalizing are 2 different things. If the Canadian government legalized pot they would control the strength, price and distribution through the government run liquor stores. Seems like a great money maker for Ottawa and another reason for a great tourism boom in the True North. | |

Pot is not illegal it's a controlled substance. If you check out history you will discover that POT was endorsed by the federal government and requested by them to encourage farmers to cultivate large tracts of land to it right up to 1947. Since then the Agriculture agency has not issued a stamp to grow it, thus why it's a controled substance rather than an illegal one.
You can think the decetful vindictive little american stalin (J. E. Hoover) for this little treasure. If you would like to learn more about Hoover and his secret agenda and the formation of the FBI. Then read the making of how this man got to be were he was before he passed away as the director of the FBI. When he was a young whipper snapper he went after a man by the name of Marcus Garvey ( A civil rights leader in the 1920's) Hoover clearly demonstrates his evil intentions and the man he would become.
Nevertheless, by 1972 the U. S. Congress was about to decriminialize POT and would have done so if it hadn't been for one minor detail. A new drug entered into the American market "Cocain" and killed the idea. | |

Unlike most people I firmly believe in States Rights. For god sake it was the states that formed the union and not the otherway around. However the federal government has done a very good job of erasing that simple truth. They would rather you believe the lie they have been spreading for the last 140 years than know the truth. Just ask yourself this question?
How can the U.S. call itself a union of states? when the states themeselves are in reality sovergin little nations joining their combined efforts for the better good of each other. If that be the case then anyone of the states should have the right to leave such a union should it chose to do so just like a marriage which can be dissolved or a contract amoung busniesses that fail to meet their obligation. So is it true with the United States. So how can it in all reality call itself United States if those states are held in together by cohersion & bondage??? | |

Posted: 11/7/2004 9:47:52 PM | I think we should legalize it. Just think of the tax revenues. Here in my part of BC anyway they would be huge. Not only the tax on the product but all the people around here that would start paying income tax too.
Other thing too is its harm is relatively small when compared to alcohol. Who ever heard of a bunch of people high on pot getting in a riot. There are more likely to be communal hugs than fights. | |
