nirvana, kurt cobain nowadays Page 1 of 1
A deep thought of mine I experienced in a pub last night whilst listening to a Nirvana song. It can sound absurd but I started laughing when I saw all these youngsters dancing to one of their songs as I am pretty sure Kurt Cobain would have hated being transformed into a dance floor hit. And they were so young and I am sure they weren't even born when he passed away. In general where there is ambition Art dies.

well not really, they could have been in their 20's but still too young to remember that period of history don't you think?

here's a list of songs Nirvana covered and a lost of Nirvana songs that have been covered.
I highly doubt that Kurt would have disliked whatever-version of whatever-song you heard.

I dunno about that...that was what 19 yrs ago? So if they were around 23 or up it would be something they could remember...from 4-7 years of age my favorite show was Video Hits... and I remember ALL of my favorite songs from then...

If he were alive, he would probably outgrown a lot of his angst, and not really be bothered by it. Just an hypothesis...

I think its a very fitting tribute to Nirvana's overrated music. They were just a flavor of the day back then. Why should it be any different now.

I agree. It's surprising what years passed will do to a person's perceptions and placement of what has value or not. My kid listen to the odd Nirvana song. Then again, she listens to almost anything that moves her.

Of course he killed himself knowing that someday this would happen to his music (like it does to every other sudden superstar), aware he wouldn't be able to deal with it.

Tragic.

I thought Nirvana was considered "grunge" not metal.

Just because young people are familiar with music not from their generation, doesnt make it creepy. My kids are twelve and nine and are quite familiar with The Sex Pistols as that is what they grew up listening to. Now if they come to age and are in a bar and get up and dance to "God Save the Queen", I know my work is done.

I also agree that kurt would have grown out of his angst, as a matter of fact from what I understand he would have left the music business behind and focus on his painting (I got that from the book Heavier Than Heaven).

I walked pasta SPIN class the other day at the gym and I heard them cranking a techno/dubstep song with the lyrics to smells like teen spirit, in disgust of the incident I thought to myself that Kurt would be rolling over in his grave, that would be the last thing he would want done with his music

Kurt Cobain couldn't care less - he wanted out of the music business. If you can hear it then you can dance to it.

Interesting thought. I grew up listening to Dad's Beatles vinyls in the 1980s, I have a friend my age that still is into The Who - age has nothing to do with musical taste really. My son is called Kurt after Kurt Cobain, as he was born in 1995, although shamefully he listens to trance music, or as I call it "electrified bee music" because it sounds to me as if someone has electrocuted a swarm of bees.
