| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 2/22/2012 11:55:32 AM | | It depends on what your interests are as far as good spots so not sure what to tell you. And where in Los Angeles are you staying? It's a huge place so that will give people an idea as far as places to see. | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 2/22/2012 4:39:50 PM | If you like museums, you should check out LACMA.
http://www.lacma.org/
The Getty Center is another good museum to visit and it's free.

Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to check out.

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 2/22/2012 8:17:26 PM | Ok.
I havnt booked anywhere yet, but i have circled quite a few spots in california.
I am into live music, and wouldnt mind checking out the comedy clubs ive heard about. I like my sports and would like to check out a live game or two. Umm do the typical touristy things i suppose like universal and maybe disneyland too.
I guess im open minded to see explore anywhere and anything differant to what i can do or see in Australia.
1st US trip for me, and 1st trip on my own.. I dont have a schedule or plans i just want to go with the flow and work it out as the day comes.

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 2/22/2012 9:32:25 PM | | The thing is that it's not San Francisco or London. Compact places where you can hop on and off public transportation. You can literally get stuck in 3 hour traffic to go from one side of the city (let alone the county which is really what Los Angeles is) to the other so you have to have an idea of what you want to see. It's not a good city to just wing it or you'll end up driving (and getting lost) most of the time. Universal and Disneyland are in opposite directions. Disneyland is in Orange County. There is a lot of live music and great comedy clubs though. | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 2/22/2012 11:35:38 PM | ahh rightio.
As you can see i have no idea at all, hence the question in the forum.
Thanks for that. I guess i will have to be one of those 'people' who makes lists and plans stuff. Lucky i havnt left it to the last minute like i usually do.
Thanks again | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 2/27/2012 4:50:02 AM | You didn't mention if you like movies, nature, etc. As a SoCal native I'd like to suggest a few drives to give you not only a feel for our area but a sample of classic Hollywood filming locations: 1) Vasquez Rocks, Agua Dulce. Impressively tilted sandstone formations. 2) Malibu Creek State Park. Planet of the Apes (original) and M*A*S*H were filmed here. 3) Of course, drive up PCH to Santa Barbara for the day. It's beautiful. Stop at Leo Carillo Beach on your way up and find the sea cave/tunnel. | |

April/May you can see the Lakers downtown at Staples: staplescenter.com/events or the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium (which is just north of downtown) mlb.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=la#y=2012&m=4&calendar=DEFAULT
Comedy clubs in Hollywood: laughfactory.com, thecomedystore.com, improv.com Live music depends what kind of music you like.

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 3/12/2012 2:50:15 AM | Is there a particular area? L.A is huuuuuuge.
Hollywood Blvd. was one of my favorite spots.

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 3/12/2012 6:32:18 PM | Hollywood is fun, Dave's in Malibu is on the ocean and has killer burgers, Manhattan Beach is blast, take a studio tour, check out the 1% on Rodeo Drive...so much fun!
Talk to your AAA travel agent and they can hook you up with a tour package or a trip tik.

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 3/17/2012 12:48:05 PM | I'm a native Angeleno. So ask away, and I'll direct you to locations that are away from tourist traps, and where locals only venture. Oh yeah, learn to drive on the right side of the road, plus get use to the wheel being on the left.
Cheers! | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 3/26/2012 5:48:19 AM | Wow
Thanks everyone for the advice.
I will be there on the 2nd of May so yeah, im excited and apprehensive at the same time. But thanks for the tips. As for the driving Im not sure i could get used to it in time. Changing gears with my right hand dosnt sound right. Plus id be bound to crash just turning the corner.
Cant wait to get there and experiance as much as i can.
Thanks again Cheers | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 3/26/2012 6:43:42 AM | Mate... most rentals are automatic. ;) Anyway, check out Wikitravel. There's plenty of useful information posted by travelers, which breaks it down by: city & town, other destinations, see, do, where to shop, eat, drink, sleep, etc. Depending on our schedules, I'll meet up with you with a group of friends over a few drinks. I'll keep track on this thread, to check your updates and pass-on any other information pertinent to your trip
Cheers! | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 4/1/2012 1:07:41 AM | | The Farmers Market in West Hollywood is pretty good, and the Walk of Fame is close by as well. Venice Beach is entertaining, Staples Center for an NBA game.....and driving through the Hollywood hills. | |
|
| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 4/7/2012 7:06:09 PM | the Getty. Both locations. The Malibu Getty is a little tricky to get into 'cause you need a parking reservation or get up their on a bus. | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 4/8/2012 1:16:35 AM | Thanks mate
I appreciate it, and i think ive narrowed my accommodation down to USA Hostel? in Hollywood. Appears to be pretty cheap and close to most things. Always happy to meet up for a beer or 6. Travel dates havnt changed, although if for some reason I need a change of scenery i was considering a roadtrip to vegas. Its coming around pretty quick. less than a month away. And the wikitravel site was a big help. So thanks again. My shout at the pub.
NBA, NHL and the Baseball games are high on the list. Originally i wanted to see the Chili peppers in their home town but they postponed their tour dates and arnt back home for awhile. So ill have to wait till they tour down here.
Other than that im pretty much happy to check out anything.
Thanks everyone. | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 4/26/2012 7:52:33 PM | | If you want good accommodations and airline tickets cheap - the best site I've come across is Sherman's Travel - Play with it - I like how they've put it together - | |

| LA, Hollywood trip Posted: 7/14/2012 5:24:33 PM | I have wondered about travelling to Los angeles, Hollywood, as well as Las Vegas on my own, if I can't get a travelling partner. Do people ever enjoy travelling there alone? I want to get out of my comfort zone, and get out of Canada, and just go somewhere different!
thank you | |
