| What do you consider the best sports movies, by sport Posted: 8/4/2005 1:42:35 PM | | Thanks everyone, I now have plenty of lists to take in to my local Blockbuster, and many Saturday nights planned. I can't believe in my original posting I overlooked such classics as Hoosiers and Field of Dreams. But you guys quickly jumped to my assistance. Keep up the good forum postings. On Topic: Best Soccer movie was Ladybugs, and auto racing just doesn't transfer to film very well. | |

| What do you consider the best sports movies, by sport Posted: 8/10/2005 3:18:39 PM | Baseball: Field of Dreams, Major League
Football: Rudy, Remember the Titans
Basketball: Hoosiers
Hockey: "Do you Believe in Miracles" (TV Documentary)
Soccer: Ladybugs :p
Boxing: Rocky, Ali
Track: Without Limits
With Hockey -- osme people love Miracle but I actually abhored it because of how staged it was. I like the documentary with the 1980 USA Hockey team better... I also have never seen Slap Shot so I can't list that one....

| What do you consider the best sports movies, by sport Posted: 8/31/2005 12:58:31 PM | Boxing: Muhammad with Will Smith-They CHOREOGRAPHED these scenes to the NTH detail. People, I've seen ALL Ali's fights and these reenactments are so close to the real thing, it's amazing. Will's jab, the Ali Shuffle, the flashy combinations, the walking lead right pivot... leaning back from the haymakers-glove down and then countering, the rope-a-dope, covering from the right by putting the left glove around the back of the opponents neck in close... the actors even get knocked down EXACTLY as it was in the real fights... same parts of the ring.. the whole nine yards...TO THE TEE!!!
There's never been another ATHLETIC MOVIE WITH ACTORS that was even CLOSE to the reality look of these ring scenes. This was Will Smith's finest hours on film and proved he's one of the great movie actors of our time, BOTH in the ring scenes and out.
Football: I can't really name one football film that doesn't have some terrible flaws in it that cancel out the realism factor. Probably "The Waterboy" or the second making of "Longest Yard" is about as good as it gets.
Baseball: "For Love of the Game" with Kevin Costner, "Bull Durham" with Kevin Costner (the dude PLAYED in College. Costner still plays even.... he shortstopped for Cal State Fullerton recently against a MLB team in an exhibition.. Even got a couple hits!
OR "A League of Their Own"... with a stellar cast... OR "The Natural" with Robert Redford.
Elvising: "Bubba Ho-Tep" with Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis AND THE MUMMY.
