| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 3/4/2012 9:16:39 AM | Edinburgh is a beautiful city to visit and take the time to wander around.
Another idea is taking a train/car along the coast line, the sea can be beautiful and blue in some areas. You might want to check out the legendary Lochness Monster!!!
I was born in Scotland, my way of thinking and telling people about it is: On a beautiful spring/summer day it is totally beautiful, but without that sun it can be very bleak.
Have fun. | |

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 3/4/2012 1:05:37 PM | Campbell area? Edinburgh, a day at least, Royal yacht Brittannia down the Leith docks, the view over Edinburgh from Calton Hill, the Scottish museum, Chambers st,Shopping around Princes St, esp clothes. an Indian restaurant up Clerk St/Kalpha, Get a copy of "the List"whats on guide.Check out the Edinburgh Festival..although accommodation may be a problem..err..will be. Hiore a car, drive over the Forth road Bridge 6 mls north of the city, head for Loch Lomond, or Glen Coe,(Campbells were a bad lot there!) then the Island of Skye a couple of famous sea food restaurants there, great scenery, the Quiraing, then poolewe and the" bealach na ba" up to ullapool, or further white beaches, crystal clear green sea, cold water.
In summer "midgies" are a real problem, they are not mosquitoes, more like "no-see-ums, and attack in clouds, vociferous in early morning and dusk when its damp. You should get a hat and a mesh head bag/cover., and light cotton gloves.Repellents do not work. Dont let that put you off. Other places, anywhere on the West coast, the Hebrides Islands..get an Island Hopper ticket. Visit distilleries, note ..the whisky rated as the best in US is not drunk in Scotland, Dimple, Johnny walker Black, they are mostly vastly overpriced export rip offs sold by advertising. Enjoy the single malts of the local Distilleries they usually welcome visitors. When hiring a car, all cars in UK are manual stick shift, if you want an auto, ask. And we drive on the Left. You can get a cheap sat nav for £50 from Halfords car parts. or Argos household/electronics warehouses. Power is 240v ac so bring anadaptor. If you need a charger dont go to a specialised shop, go to a "pound shop" as in £ this and other shops sell stuff very cheaply. Once you get off the main Glasgow-Edinburgh central belt stuff gets a bit more expensive, if saving money look for Aldi,Lidl, orNetto for groceries etc.
The locals are friendly, there is very little crime along the west coast, away from Glasgow.... It is quite safe to wander out at night, people walk their dogs at dusk. Enjoy yourself.

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 3/7/2012 8:28:20 AM | | The highlands are stunning, but beware the Scottish midge is terrifying creature. Make sure you have the best mosquito net money can buy or you will be miserable at dawn and dusk! | |

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 3/23/2012 10:35:18 AM | Isle of Arran & the Isle of Mull. If you visit the Highlands, which, I am with everyone else, are gorgeous, also get to a couple of islands. Take an umbrella and a good wind breaker; summer in Scotland is not necessarily dry and warm. Edinburgh is nice, St. Andrews also. Glasgow is interesting. Try to see some of the castles: http://www.visitscotland.com/guide/see-and-do/visitor-attractions2/great-scottish-castles/
Ten days isn't much; to see the most, you should rent a car. With only ten days and so much beautiful and interesting scenery to choose from, I would plan ahead very carefully. http://www.visitscotland.com/guide/scotland-factfile/scotlands-regions1/

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 3/31/2012 6:39:56 AM | Glasgow, skip all together...very industrial.
Edinbourgh - a must see. And definatly hit up the castle ( i think it's at 12pm that they shoot the cannons)
As someone else said, the highlands are to die for..
Ben Nevis is nice..the highest mountin in Scotland I do belive (but I could be wrong).
Definatly Lochness.
Oban/Island of Mull - AMAZING
If you go to Skye - follow along the bottem of the island, the further up you go, the uglier it is..and there's a nice castle at the bottem called Armadale Castle.
There's a great castle along the road before you actually cross over to Skye, called Eilean Donan Castle..incrediable..(it's in a movie)
If you want really quite, less tousity try Tulloch Castle near Dingwall - it's haunted and has a dungan and everything!
I could go on and on..Scotland is my favorite country, but whereever you go you'll enjoy..people are amazing, and food is ok (try haggis! and black pudding)...
St Andrews Castle is amazing as well, near St Andrews...
And just have fun :)
But 'sheep shaggin' is illigal from what I understand, don't try it .. :p

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 6/14/2012 1:44:56 AM | lol there is a saying in scotland
never trust a campbell
but hey we have changed and trust youse a wee bit now
i have never been to skara brae but its on a must do soon list. the swellings are better than we have built now and neo lithic familys used to have massive neo lithic techno raves (ok i made that bit up about the techno) but they were living a full life while egyptians were still scratching their arse wondering what to build with all that stone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skara_Brae
Skara Brae (play /ˈskɑrə ˈbreɪ/) is a large stone-built Neolithic settlement, located on the Bay of Skaill on the west coast of Mainland, Orkney, Scotland. It consists of ten clustered houses, and was occupied from roughly 3180 BCE–2500 BCE. Europe's most complete Neolithic village, Skara Brae gained UNESCO World Heritage Site status as one of four sites making up "The Heart of Neolithic Orkney."a Older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids, it has been called the "Scottish Pompeii" because of its excellent preservation.[1]

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 11/26/2012 5:21:42 PM | Mallaig was nice... small but different. Working port, down home pubs, hike to the cairn. Highlands are beautiful.... flower covered hills.
Might consider hosteling, if you have never tried it. Europe's are a bit different than the US'. Very friendly nothing at all like the movie-honestly.

The best place to visit while in Scotland is St Ives
Presume you realise that St. Ives is in the south west of England in Cornwall and Scotland at the other end of the country?
Appreciate that we're a small island (and not hard to get to one end from the other) but perhaps worth mentioning as reading your post seemed to suggest St. Ives is in Scotland.

| Scotland in the Summer where to go? Posted: 11/30/2012 4:42:08 PM | Rough year weather wise. I was there in June, and it was cold every day for 3 weeks.
Some pretty pictures. I particularly liked the lake pic near Stirling. I was born in Stirling.
It was in the high 70's in Dallas/fort worth today.

the geezer is from slough maya cut him some slack lol
LOL! ooops. i didn't look at his profile, cos i rarely do. just went by the post and it seemed like he wasn't from here (uk) - that said, perhaps he isn't cos he's in the south east and as we all know, anything beyond the watford gap only exists in the mists of the 'grim oop norf' and anything in the other direction is equally mysterious :D
ps. i'm joking lol...used to live in taplow and worked in slough before i gave up working for studying and came up here :) - bucks is lovely and berks isn't bad either. my route into work involved going past eton everyday, with schoolboys in their tails, going past the rowers practising on the thames, and past windsor castle (and if the flag was flying, it meant the queen was in residence)
st ives is still in cornwall though lol...an incredibly beautiful part of the country, both devon and cornwall and worth a visit for those that have never been.
vlad, i'm gonna have to come out to edinburgh some point and do the tourist thing. i got in at edinburgh, but opted to go to glasgow instead. too many tourists in the burgh for my liking, and after having lived in london for a number of years, i like the peace and quiet of non- touristy industrial cities instead (lol) - still, edinburgh is BEAUTIFUL and i shall have to wander over at some point.
