I am going to one of these two countries for having dental work done at cheap prices (compared to the USA). If you have done it, I need advice about which ones to go to, that are reputable and not cheats. I have been to Costa Rica before, but not for that reason.

I've been to Costa Rica for dental work. Got all my work done at a place called Smile 90210 Esthetic Center. Right outside SJ. Great work, great prices. Would definitely recommend. I had four fillings done, zoom whitening, 2 teeth bonded, and a cleaning. Overall way cheaper than here in the US, even after you factor in flight/hotel.
On your downtime, if you go fishing watch out for the sharks in the Lake Del Rey.

I would suggest Costa Rica rather then the DR. Dental tourism is big business there. I have not been to a USA dentist in over 8 years now and my teeth are in just as good a shape and maybe better than they would have been at home,, and my wallet is a lot thicker. In San Jose CR there are tons of dentists that speak english and have a big gringo clientel. You can find them on the internet, or find them locally if you seek them out. The internet clinics are good, and more expensive than the local independents as they are seeking the gringo patients. Since I have learned spanish and dont need the english speaking dentist I go to the locals who are cheaper than the big clinics,,, but the clinics are still way cheaper than in the USA. Last march I had my yearly checkup, a filling, a cleaning, ect,,, and it came to about $80 in US dollars,,, but was in pesos as I was in Colombia. I did 4 winters in Costa Rica, and for the last 4 years have spent the winters in Medellin Colombia. The dentists are every bit as learned and professional as any american dentist. I highly recommend latin america for dental work. In related matters I wear contacts and always get my eyes checked when there. I pay about $7 for the optomitrist exam and the lenses are about the same as in the us. Save there also. Although I would prefer to be in the US for any major surgery, doctors are also much cheaper and as far as I can tell just as good as US docs. If you know what you want, you can walk in any drug store and just buy anything you want without the prescription like the US where we have to pay the doc for. I always take my old empty bottles and get refills. We in the USA are paying much more than the rest of the world... KF

I'm all for dental tourism. I had my botched root canal corrected in Lebanon. The American dentist who did the root canal charged $950... The Lebanese angel who fixed it charged under $200 even though it took a few visits.

I've also heard great things about India as far as medical tourism goes.
