A HEARTFELT MEMORY...CLOSUREPage 1 of 1
A wood I know called River came up to me this week,
He said "I see your heart is heavy, what is it that you seek?",
I looked him in the eyes and just began to speak...
Not knowing where to start, I started at the end .
I said " her name is Allison, she was my sister's friend.
Although we're not together we once lived a sort of dream,
There is no one quite like her and she's still on the team"...
I showed him all the papers and envelopes she'd sent,
I told him "we were once in love and I'm not sure where it went".
I'd been doing lots of thinking and its easy now to see,
what happened to the two of us, Allison and me.
I told him about all the drugs and where it all went wrong.
about me getting busted, away for too damn long.
How time away had taken toll, the burden on her heart,
each moment we both suffered the time we were apart.
But most of all I told him about when all was good,
of when I was her hero, how she adored this wood.
He said "if she were here right now what is it you would say?"
I said "well i'd just like to thank her for the woman she has been,
and that I love her now even more than I did then.
I would put my arms around her and hold her close to me,
and quietly I'd wonder if it could ever be"...
Yesterday remains the past and that's where it belongs,
there is no going back to right now any wrongs.
Tomorrow is a mystery, who knows what lies in store
what obstacles we must conquer when we open the next door.
I think I got a little misty, I felt he understood.
I turned around to walk away and said "yeah its all good",
I told him "thanks for listening"," any time" he said,
I said that "I appreciate", and slowly shook my head.
I thought about our love and why it had to end, and wondered what it might be like
to be her hero once again..........................Written by "HOOLIGAN" Wasco State Prison 01/15/2011

Everything in this story was true. I sent her this poem and received a letter in return telling me she wanted to give it another try. On the 22nd of this month it will be a year ago I returned from prison to my baby's arms. It wasn't the same. While I was so happy to have her back I still had a rough time forgiving her for hurting me so badly the first time around and she had trouble forgiving me for things I had done before as well. Some things just can't be left buried in the past. It was a bumpy ride and we both held on tight for awhile hoping it would get better but it didn't. Two weeks ago today we reached our breaking point and called it quits:( I guess we answered my question..... I really love that beautiful woman and I wish the best of happy times for her. I just now finally shed a tear for it all and that will be the last one shed by me for her. This is my closure and today I'm moving forward with my life with a very positive outlook. I am my own man! Thank you for reading our story, I hope you liked it.

I absolutely LOVE it!! You have a talent there, OP. I read your poem 3 times. You shared a lovely story and thankyou!!

A broken heart heals in time but allow yourself for it to bleed a little every now and then. Its all part of the healing process. We're human, not robots.

I hope others who read this will respond and most importantly, be inspired by your story and your courage to keep a positive outlook.

You should consider writing a song about this.

I have tried to put music to this poem with no success so far. I am a singer/songwriter and I've written many songs but for some reason I just cant put music to this one. Maybe one day it will come to me but for now it remains a poem. Thank you for reading.

I had to post here and bump this up so
it doesnt get lost.

This was absolutely beautiful.

I think we all wish that we could put in to
words how we feel about someone.

This is beautiful- and so are you.

Me too. It may be regarded as chat but I sincerely hope this stays around for a while for others to read the poem.

It's beautiful and the OP seems a very passionate man. I hope, OP, that you never lose yourself to destruction and despair which happens all too often from heartbreak. You're an inspiration. xx
