| | What are you looking for ?? Page 1 of 1 | Whenever I am asked that most basic of questions on dating sites , I never quite know how to respond . Often my first thought is ... sounds like a smutty question because its often followed up `by looking for "fun " .?
( NB.. whats the point of cyber sex ?, its like just reading a menu when your hungry , you build up an appetite & then what ? eat alone . pot noodler ? )
At the end of the day, it is a reasonable question to be asked , on a dating site .
I wondered if anyone really knew for sure what they were looking for .? Or are we all going through a long process of elimination ??
Whats your response to that question ??

"I'm not "looking" for anything, beyond meeting up with people who I think I'd get on with and then seeing how it goes and what (if anything) happens. We could end up just being mates; might only be a fling; maybe even develop into a full blown relationship ... who knows? - Yes, this does mean that there may well be occasions, when I do decide that I'm only after "one thing" ... don't worry, I'd happily let you know if that's the case though."

Posted: 5/27/2012 2:48:04 AM | when i was fairly general - ie not specific - about what i was looking for, i had lots of messages. since i have been more specific, i have had very few... but they are at least more realistic prospects.
there is a danger of self-deluding vanity in getting hundreds of messages from people who do not fit the criteria, compared to what seems at the outset like disappointment when only a very few who are much closer to what i imagine my ms perfect to be, actually get in touch. and using 'viewed me' numbers as any kind of measure of anything has to be nonsense.
however, this site isn't here to stroke egos but to get strangers together who might otherwise never meet.... and like a terrorist, i only have to get lucky once. | |

I know what I dont want: alcoholics, mentally ill, unloyal bed partner, idle layabout, selfish etc etc
Its all about for and against matters in a relationship.
The "fors" have to outnumber the "against" or teh relationship isnt worthwhile.
Some people are just so hard work and others I seem to fit in with like a glove. | |

Yeah I always like to chat on the phone first, or maybe even a couple of times. You can tell sometimes just by a phone chat if you re going to get on, and I have ruled someone out if, as you said the conversation was awkward, or it becomes apparent that we don t have enough in common. I find meeting up nerve wracking enough, so I at least want to feel as much at ease as I can, and feel its worth seeing each other in person.... | |
