| | Cambodian crooks corrupt policePage 1 of 1 | | Has any one had a bad time in Cambodia or is it just me? I was in SiemReap last year having an awesome time and helping the children a lot. i got kidnapped drugged and held hostage in the police station. Meanwhile the people who drugged me were having a great time emptying out my bank. My family had to come and get me and pay more money for me and i was so delirious from the drugs i had no memory except for hallucionations as i believe i was drugged with magic mushrooms. The whole ordeal was harrowing. theres a lot more to the story. i was just interested to know if anyone else had any trouble over there? | |

I remember one couple saying that the people there were so poor they actually didn't care too much that they had been robbed-don't think they had been drugged first though, or they may have told their story differently. Sorry you went through that OP!

| Cambodian crooks corrupt police Posted: 7/15/2012 5:06:45 PM | | I never had trouble but in siemreap there was an air of tension all the time. Phnom Penh wasnt bad for tension but its probably one of the darkest most depressing capital cities in Asia. I got bad vibes but i didnt get kidnapped. | |

police are corrupt all over the world. best to keep your distance as i try to do.
That's a lie. Police are not corrupted all over the world. Cambodia is the bad place, should not be considered as the whole world. I think Cambodians are probably one of the worst group of people on earth. Their usually catholic/christian and raised badly because of their low economic background.
It is what it is. Avoid going there if your not willing to take that risk.

Cambodians are Buddhists. It's true that Cambodia is a poor country, but your characterization of them is inaccurate and unfair.

| Cambodian crooks corrupt police Posted: 8/28/2012 10:30:46 AM | | I've been to Cambodia several times since my first trek around the Kingdom in 1995 (see profile pics). It remains one of my favorite places on earth although bit less so as it's become heavily touristed. Never had any problem there but as very experienced world traveler I do smart risk assessment for each trip - especially in so-called 3rd world. Treking around dense jungle areas mapped as Malaria hot spots or experiencing often dangerous road conditions are obvious risks - if keenly aware. Sickness, like Dengue fever risk out in deep Cambodia jungle and traffic accidents with poor medical attention in an emergency are not to be taken lightly. Sorry for you terrible ordeal. | |

| Cambodian crooks corrupt police Posted: 8/31/2012 7:41:07 PM | | I love Cambodia - my family and I were just there in July (Siem Reap). I lived in Asia the past two years and have many friends that have traveled to Cambodia and never once had I heard of anything like this happening to them. I think the people of Cambodia are very lovely and would recommend this country to anyone! The temples were amazing! Definitely a great experience. I am so sorry your experience was so horrific. | |

| Cambodian crooks corrupt police Posted: 9/16/2012 5:03:57 PM | | We went to Cambodia last year and LOVED it. No bad experiences whatsoever. Siem Reap was lovely, our hotel outstanding, our temple guide just gorgeous and the food was delicious. Went to Pnom Penh too... no bad vibes for us. To the OP... my goodness that must have been SO scary :/ I do hope that you are getting over it ok? To the other ignorant posters who want to suggest that all Cambodians are bad/muggers/raised badly (WTF does that even MEAN?) shame on you. Cambodia is a poor country still struggling to get over decades of dictatorship and has lots of rough edges. While the OP had a really bad time, I would hate for everyone to think Cambodia is off limits. | |

I am going to have to subjectively agree,lol...Lay off the "peace pipe"(maybe they slipped some lsd into your stash when you got home)...Not that the story is a pretty cool one, adventure, danger, and a happy ending, hollywood worthy..

| Cambodian crooks corrupt police Posted: 9/18/2012 6:30:02 AM | I've traveled all around Cambodia and i've never had a problem.
The people are just beautiful, the country-side amazing.
I'm not sure what happened with you OP, maybe it was just a 'wrong place at wrong time' type thing.
