Has there been a change to POF? I could see who has viewed my profile and the last 30 users I viewed, but no more. All there is now is the My Matches which isn't much better; it's the same women as last month and the month before and I've viewed or contacted (and been ignored by) them already.

Apparently only 4 people have viewed me recently...

Is this a glitch is "Viewed Me" going pay-for-use again?

I am a paid user and the "Viewed Me" is on the fritz. It went to 0 people, then 4, 0, then 2. Right now it shows 0 and when you click to see last 30 days, it says "under maintenance" with a robot.

I think it is a glitch right now.

For unknown reasons, POF decided to clear out our Viewed Me histories yesterday... then apparently they did it again today, so it's possible they plan to clear out the Viewed Me history every day from now on -- we don't know, since they don't ever tell anyone (even the moderators) anything about what they're doing. If you don't have anyone listed under your Viewed Me, it's because no one has viewed you (in non-stealth mode) since the last time they cleared out the Viewed Me and reset it to zero.

As the paid user in this thread suggests, it has not become a pay function -- it doesn't matter who you are, you will have your Viewed Me cleared out. To see when someone last looked at your profile is still a paid function (though quite useless if they are going to clear out Viewed Me every day).

I'm not sure what's going on with users you viewed. I have a pretty full history there, and it doesn't appear to be behaving as it used to (they are definitely not in last viewed order).

It seems to my like the stealth mode is no longer working as well, I think all that view are seen there regardless of how they have it marked on their profile......at least it seems that way to me

I know it's a free site and we get what we pay for but they make lots of money from advertising due to the large user base so some basic customer service would be nice. Does it take much to keep users informed about pending changes or technical issues that they are working to resolve?

That would assume there is some kind of PLAN here. There isnt. The owner is the programmer and obviously never came from a shop where the design and changes/updates were thoroghly tested and users were in the loop. We are not. This is copy and pasted from the top of the site help section

Moderators will have limited understanding of how new features work. I(admin) create and test new features in a matter of hours and constantly tweak things to see how they work. Many new features will be in a constant state of flux. Should a feature not enhance the site it will be removed.
Which means basically he site down every once in awhile and can just start jacking around w ith a new idea or whatever and make changes and throw them out. If the stuff craps out he may see it and fix it in a few days or whatever. There is no plan here. This place has been patched and pasted together with bandaids for years. Some of the good ideas are forever crippled by never being properly completed (like the MEET ME section for example). There is no plan here. o program. He "tinkers" with crap constantly (often with terrible results)

He gets some new idea and chunks out something half baked to often instead of actually designing a proper piece of software all the way through before starting to program. It is still handled like his little "play thing" from when he wrote this mess years ago. They should have formal system design teams working on the system now. Bug/Fix lists. Scheduled updates that are THOROUGHLY tested. Aint happening here. The owner is a computer genius in many ways but simply never came from a formal background in software design and support. He is more of an "idea" guy. And yes it is crippling the site now in many ways. This site (programming wise) would do much better if he took a step back and entrusted trained professionals to handle the day to day programming changes and testing.
Many new features will be in a constant state of flux.
This should NEVER be happening on a live system with 40 million users. Thats insane. No way to handle changes on a site of this size. I joined here in like 2006 and my member number was like 1.7 million something. So we had MAYBE 1.5 million active profiles. We have 40+ million now and changes should of been made long ago IMO anyway.

Have to agree with your summing up Cowboy. I'm a professional software developer with over thirty years experience and would never get away with such shoddy design as this site sometimes demonstrates.

He's not a computer genius he's an asp.net tinkerer. The number of times I've seen this site broken and the source code on display is shocking. This should never happen in a live environment.

I've often considered trying my hand at a dating site coded in PHP on a LAMP stack, relatively straightforward to do but having the code is one thing getting members is another.

A buggy site, changing features working or not, paid or not will result in people going elsewhere and will result in lost advertising revenue and in the worst case the site dieing.

No matter what your business is customer service should come first, something many companies have lost sight of.

I tend to use the Viewed me a lot. It helps me find out if there is actually anyone who showed interest in my profile. It is hard enough without being able to follow up on possible matches.

@cowboy and @netraider:

I couldn't agree more. If my staff had let any of this stuff loose untested they'd have been clearing their desks. I'd probably have been kicked out too for letting them.

Each amendment generates at least 2 more bugs. Updates aren't released, they just escape.

I've recently returned to POF after a 6 year break. What a shambolic waste of time! No wonder a bunch of his advertisers are either him, or non-existent. Would you pay to advertise here?

MARKUS! Wake up and smell the coffee. and while you're at it, fix the hide/ unhide code. *I* will decide when this happens to* my* profile, *not* *you*.

I realize this is a free site to some but the paying customers are having problems too. Taking away the "who viewed me" feature or allowing it to be broken means that a person has no clue if anyone has interest in them but were too shy to message them.

Profit over the customer is part of the new millennia. Just like software. The last time I can remember any software being released with little or no bugs was in the DOS days. Software is released continually with known bugs. Even Facebook has had known issues; some of which have never been dealt with.

Microsoft knowingly released version of Windows with literally thousands of bugs.

The majority of issues have been through people finding a backdoor that allows them to exploit a users system, with the rise of the internet I think that is why you find more bugs being found.

In the days of DOS it didn't matter because their weren't as many users connected to the internet.

Well considering the fact the POF is the largest dating site outside of China, shoddy code is not really that important as that is the way the site has always been.

He's not a computer genius he's an asp.net tinkerer. The number of times I've seen this site broken and the source code on display is shocking. This should never happen in a live environment.

He may not be a computer genius but he is a math genius and has won the Fields Medal which is considered the Nobel Prize of Math.

No matter what your business is customer service should come first, something many companies have lost sight of.

So far that has not been the case, so either the owner has shown that what he is doing / done is working.

All that said, the viewed me feature is still working on my end and no one is asking me to pay. I did notice that when I logged in today that the list was empty but within 5 minutes it re-populated and seems to be working fine now.

How money do you spend on good dates?

I have the POF upgrade and you don't see me complaining.

The complainers on here are killing me. You demand that every, every, single feature be free, and you not pay a single dime.

Ugh.

The "Viewed Me" feature is toast. I get some message about seeing those who viewed my profile since October, 2010, I think it is... or 2011... and that's it. Ugly as I am, I've still had women view my profile since then... but there is nothing showing now. Another case of people who think they're coders screwing with code that wasn't broken. Amateurs.

Or even more likely, is users that jump to conclusions and fail to understand that the viewed me section was reset a few days ago and aside from that nothing has changed.

I would not be terribly shocked if this feature was in need of a reset. When you think about it, there is nothing the site tracks that uses up more space, probably by a factor of several.

Outside of guys like me who email almost every woman whose profile they view, most people on here contact a small fraction of the profiles they look at, so the first contact database is certainly a fraction of the number of views. Most people don't block everyone that emails them or even a significant amount of the people that emails them, so the blocked users database probably isn't very large by comparison. The emails themselves are deleted after 20 (or maybe now 30) days, so that database is fairly finite, despite the fact that some female users get hundreds of emails a day.

So the only thing they tracked for an infinite amount of time that was done by almost every user almost every time they logged on was views. I only get 1 to 2 unsolicited views a week, and even my history was hundreds deep, while I know some guys who get 50+ views a week and many women undoubtedly get hundreds, some thousands. Multiply that by 40 million users over almost 10 years (or however long "Viewed Me" has been around) and you're talking a database undoubtedly many billions large. Undoubtedly it could be held in a single hard drive of some petabytes in size (since we are basically just talking about simple text or binary entries that represent users' ID numbers), but eventually accessing it and searching it for millions of users would become sloth-like.

All that said... they had to have known such a day was coming, and not warning or explaining what's happening to the users (and especially paying customers) is just bad business practice. Not quite as bad as covering up the hidden profile fiasco (which is a bigger sin than not fixing it), but certainly equally as unprofessional. What happened with Viewed Me (now or a few weeks ago when they really did make it pay) is not the end of the world and unlike the hidden profile fiasco won't really have much effect on your ability to use the site, but it's yet another symptom of far larger problems.

If by covering it up you mean creating a thread and highlighting it to make sure it stands out I would say they have done a terrible job at hiding it.

Obviously there was a problem with the code and according to the owner they are working on it, so not sure where you get that it has been covered up.

I didn't fail to understand a ________ thing. I can read.

***The date and time when someone viewed you is only available for users who viewed your profile after Oct 1 2011.***

If this "reset" is happening daily, then take down the ______ "after Oct 1 2011" message, because it's a _______ lie.
