| | Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July.Page 1 of 1 | It's time for another outdoor event! Our walk near Glendalough in mid-April was a great success.
Somebody suggested that day that our next walk could be a little flatter and perhaps easier to get to. A walk along the Royal Canal was proposed, following a train journey to Maynooth, with many chances to stop for rest and refreshments in pubs along the way. (I commented at that time that all members are free to organise events, half knowing that nobody would step up to the plate.....)
Here we are almost 2 months later, and it falls to me to host this event. First, I'm gauging interest, details will follow. Here's the basics of it. Meet at Connolly Station at 8:50. Take a train to Kilcock. (There is a train at 9:05, the next one isn't until 13:05) Walk back along the canal towards Maynooth. Option 1 - some can get the train back from Maynooth Option 2 - others can walk further to Leixlip and get the train back from there back to Connolly station.
Here are a couple of links worth taking a look at. http://kildare.ie/Tourism/waterways/royal-canal.asp http://walks.iwai.ie/royal/leixlip.shtml
The walk from Kilcock to Leixlip would be approx 14 km. I'm aware it's all a bit vague, but I'm just trying to get an idea how many would be up for it. Also, would someone like to co-host this event? Pat Following Members are Attending This Party... Average Member Brings Along 3 Guests

| Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July. Posted: 6/7/2012 6:06:14 PM | | Why not do it the other way around. Start in Maynooth, and walk into the city. This would give people a far better chance of finding transport home than from Maynoth, especially on the restrictive train times (most of the Royal Canal is near the rail line) Irish rail have on Sundays. | |

| Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July. Posted: 6/12/2012 8:48:07 PM | Sounds best, starting from outside the city and walking back to connolly. Should find out from all participants what distance they are comfortable covering and the approximate duration.
There are trains running from Leixlip (Louisa Bridge) from 09:47 to Connolly and every hour until 19:47, stopping at all intermediate stations.
With the walk is along the Royal Canal Way and the train line running adjacent, there are a greater number of trains in operation to Connolly, on the commuter service, and this provides options to all participants.

| Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July. Posted: 6/24/2012 4:12:06 AM | I will have the final details for this event in the coming days. Daddy Bear, you have done some extensive research, fair play to you. Would you be interested in co-hosting this event?
Any other takers, to co-host, especially if you would like to take responsibility for a sub group and arrange to rendez-vous with us at a different location later in the day.
I'll be on the Blue team, heading out from town from Connolly station. P

| Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July. Posted: 6/25/2012 2:20:09 PM | Pat, I will know tomorrow evening if I'm going to be able to take part; It will all depend on what the surgeon says after the operation and how long the wound takes to heal.

| Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July. Posted: 6/28/2012 12:10:27 AM | Guys, due to a family funeral and family members home from overseas, I won't be able to host the event.
I'm sure it will still go ahead.
Just to help with the coordination, and that all those who go on the walk get a chance to meet up as one big group, would someone like to take charge of this event, and suggest the time and location for people to meet, (presumably a pub) as there are people coming from all over? P

| Royal Canal Walk - Sunday, 1st of July. Posted: 7/1/2012 2:27:28 AM | Hi all I was very dissapointed today. Having made my way to Kilcock to meet the 9.38 am train I was saddened to see that there were only 2 people from POF there. If this event was cancelled or re-scheduled I think it would have been good manners to state this on the thread.. I am sorry to say that todays experience has left a bad taste.. | |
