these totally kick butt. try your own variations.

here's the basic idea:

get this stuff together in a bowl:
2 cups flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon and/or cardamom or ginger or nutmeg or whatever you like (that 1/4 tsp isn't etched in stone
either)
1 cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into little pieces

ok, mix that up real well. then scoop 2 cups of it out and put that in another bowl, then add 1/2 cup sliced
almonds to it.
now, remember the stuff you left in the first bowl? well, you want to press that into a baking pan. 13x9x2
should do nicely. bake that in a 375 degree oven for 20 minutes or so. you want it to get golden and firm.
but don't forget about it and totally scorch it.

whilst that bakes away, get another bowl. into it, pour 3 cups of fruit. now, here it gets kind of fun because
you also want to add 1 cup of preserves. i like blueberry, but that's totally up to you. if you decide to
use apples, for instance, you could add apple butter. or you could mix it up ~ use one kind of fruit and
a different kind of preserve. anyway, stir that real well, then stir in 1 T flour. kind of let it sit around
until the crust bakes.

once your crust bakes, let it cool for 15 minutes, at least. once it cools a bit, spread your fruity stuff
on top of it, then sprinkle your oatmeal-almond stuff on top of that.

pop the whole thing in the oven and let it bake for about 40 minutes. then let it cool completely. i
know ~ it smells too awesome to not just scoop it all up with a spoon and eat it on the spot.
but, if you control yourself, you'll be able to slice it into squares. i generally get about
a dozen. your mileage may vary.

these taste best the day you bake them. you can prepare the stuff in advance and pop it in the
refrigerator, but keep it in 2 separate containers so it won't get mushy. then assemble and
bake right before you want to eat it.

so there it is. hope you all enjoy it!

Sounds totally decadent - but far too much sugar & carbs for me at the mo. Am on a total health kick, doing the fresh fruit / vege juicing thing and feeling so much better for it.

But it will make a yummy treat when my goals are met, though I suspect I'll give most of them away, knowing the hopeless sweet tooth that I have!
