No more than I think about hunter aliens having a breeding prison for their ultimate game under an island in Antarctica in Aliens vs. Predator, uniting all of man kind by visitors from the stars?
No more than I thought about this crap when it led to Battlestar Galactica (the 70's version).
Or Stargate.
No more than I thought Tom Cruise and Mia Sara were the progenitors of our race after saving the unicorn(s) and defeating Tim Curry?

let's try again - read through this article and come back to tell us what you think of humanity's secret past as most of it is either hidden from us or remains inaccessible due to the ignorance/arrogance of those in charge (churches, government, etc).

As for the 'what we're told about our original history', WHICH VERSION of our 'original history' are you talking about ... ? There's the version that says the Earth is only 6,000 years old, the version that says it's 4.4 billion years old, the version that says humankind is merely the latest iteration of itself and that Earth has been populated by humans many times previously, the version that says this iteration of humankind is the only one that ever was ... WHICH VERSION are you talking about ... ? As for this 'tour de farce' being the 'most anticipated movie of 2012': Really ... ? By who ... ? Posted: 6/10/2012 9:46:42 AM | Mr. Knight, who anticipated this movie? Well I did, for one. I have been eagerly awaiting Prometheus for months, as have all of my sci-fi loving friends. And honestly, I was not disappointed in the least. I thought Prometheus was a magnificent example of its genre. The storyline intrigued me, the visuals were stunning, and the atmosphere positively oozed pervasive dread. I pay my dime and sit through movies for exactly one reason- to be ENTERTAINED, and Prometheus filled that bill in spades.
OP (CST), there are zero hidden messages in Prometheus. It is a work of fiction. | |

Well, good. I, too, love science fiction ... Asimov, Bradbury, Heinlein, Vonnegut, Leinster ... the list is long. 'Blade Runner' and 'Alien' are my favorite examples of great lighting by Ridley Scott, and more films could benefit if they'd study his techniques. I don't, however, believe I was addressing anything to you specifically, so I'm puzzled as to why you're in a snit about something not directed at you ... just sayin' ... I still think the original post is dumb - and so is paying attention to an Alex Jones 'review' of 'Prometheus'. The movie will stand or fall on its merits, and that's the way it should be. From what I've read, most people will emerge slack-jawed from the viewing because it addresses things they're far more comfortable not thinking about. I have no doubt it's a good movie - I do, however, question whether the audience is up to the intellectual challenges it poses. To steal a line from the Wizard at the end of 'Conan, The Barbarian': "But that's another story for another time ... " | |

I can see why some devoutly religious persons might feel uncomfortable regarding a certain theme contained within the premise of this film, but Hello this is Science Fiction. If the weaver of a fantastic tale has done a good job, he or she has succeeded in persuading the reader (in this case, film viewer) to suspend their disbelief long enough to accept the story and be engaged. Prometheus did that for me. | |

Posted: 7/7/2012 10:22:01 AM | I haven't seen it, and am not that interested at the moment for reasons other than prejudice about Scott, or anything else mentioned here. I'm just not in a mood to be grossed out or upset by violence right now, and not in a moralistic way either. Sometimes I AM in the mood for such (I bought a set of the other Alien DVD's).
Anyway, the main thing I want to post about this is: that the fact that one might find lots of parallels, hints, similarities, and cross references to various myths, paranoia-based fantasies, ancient belief systems, or classic commercials for snack food in any film, is quite simply that the authors/directors/actors/editors are aware of those things too, and stuck them in there to spice things up.
Hence the primary defect in the OP's thinking is that he's confused about the intent of the film makers.
Oh, and Knight? The only thing I disagree with you on in this, is that Bladerunner is a good film. I liked it a little, but I can't get past the dumb Ridley Scott decision to compromise a central important point in the film, for the sake of "cool lighting:" it's SUPPOSED to be so hard to tell robots from humans, that only an expert with years of training, using high tech iris monitors and clever interview techniques can do so. But Scott decided that it would be ominous or creepy to have the robots eyes glow in the dark slightly to set up a bunch of tense scenes. Aich. | |

I've read some of David Icke's stuff about how we originate from alien engineering, and this movie did seem to touch on that. After reading comments such as "it's fiction" or "it's just a movie", it just becomes more apparent how people are oblivious to how their entertainment is crafted. Whether it be a book, a movie, a TV show or a song, the person or people creating it are conveying some type of message with their work.
It's not always sinister but it can be and it's not always an in your face message but can be more subliminal in nature.
Those that watch things solely for it's entertainment value in that same hypnotic trance that standard programmed TV gives you are leaving themselves open to all kinds of programming whether they see it or not. | |

I completely agree with this. And I don't understand why people don't "get" this or why they inevitably protest laughingly that no, "they" are never affected. Of course you/we are. Otherwise, advertising would cease to exist; how could they afford to keep doing something so expensive if it didn't affect us? For that matter, any type of sensory input is capable of affecting all of us; we are all human animals, pack-oriented, who evolved depending upon one another for survival. We are not "islands" or "rocks" standing completely alone, totally unaffected by anything. To believe so is a defense delusion, in my opinion.
I think that is why I am so very entertained by anything having to do with conspiracy theories; because the possibility of it being true fascinates me. | |

You wonder what that has to do with the thread discussion. Well suppose you are with a group of people and you saw something in prometheus they didn't.
Their opinion may change yours as happens in the experiment.
The same could be said if after watching the film you are interested in what the film pundits say. Suppose they all say there was nothing to it or the other way around that there were subliminal messages etc. And just say they are all Scientologists. After watching the video it's easy to see how many people can actually watch something but deny what they saw because they want to conform or whatever.
It should also be remembered that the movie producers today are not the movie producers of yesteryear. Most of the major production companies are owned by international corporations and there is a ton of corporate commercials now in movies. | |
