Second interview = Got the job??Page 1 of 1
Sooo...I have been job hunting for a better paying job (Who isn't??lol!) Anyway, I had an interview today and the manager said that she really liked me and they're going to set me up with an interview with HER boss.

I was just curious as to how many of you out there have NOT gotten the job after having a second interview. I'm obviously optimistic since she actually TOLD me she liked me, and wants me to interview with the higher up boss, but I'm not assuming the job is automatically mine just because of the second interview.

Some people have to go through multiple interviews, so don't hold your breath just yet!

I wish you lots of luck with this. As you know I'm sure, it's hard to get a job these days. I hope you get the position you want. I personally have had 2nd interviews with connections that they were all sure I'd was a shoe-in and still didn't get the job in the end. But, as I've heard it said, when one door closes, another opens and if we don't get what we think we may get then it wasn't meant to be. Please take all of this on a positive note. For me, it was a matter of going back to school and I loved ever minute of it. It made me alive again in ways that I hadn't been in a long time. Now I can be my own boss and not have to worry about 1st, 2nd and 3rd interviews. lol... what a wonderful feeling. I hope you get the desires of your heart but if you don't, just know that there is a job out there for you. : )

Thanks for the input:) I'm keeping optimistic, but will definitely keep applying for jobs and sending resumes out until I get a firm job offer. I really feel like I have a good chance at this job from some things the interviewer was saying.

I won't quit my job before I have another opportunity in place, but this just feels like the right time to make a transition. My favorite manager may be leaving , and a person that I REALLY don't care for may be stepping in to fill his position. It IS much tougher to get a decent paying job than it used to be, but I've got to try and find a job opportunity that allows me to have a more livable wage that will help me get closer to my financial goals.

Sounds good gingerchick, but until the day you step foot in your new work environment, I would continue to diligently put out more resumes even though it's a real pain in the butt to do so. The reason I say this is because even if you have something lined up and ready to go, who knows.... a better offer can come up at the last minute. Anyways, happy for you...enjoy the weekend. P.S. I have a 21 yr. old son who is a redhead....cool!!!

Well, it turns out that I didn't even need the second interview! I talked to the recruiter today, and the manager I interviewed with liked me so well that the manager I was supposed to interview with decided to hire me since I'd made such a good impression:) Yeah! lol!

I thought its worth adding my 60p to this post, I'm currently applying for various positions, at the time of writing, I have 2, one with Southern, the other with South West Trains and here is a very interesting thought for you:

1st interview with Southern, offered the job (for various reasons, the position never happened however). (September 2009). The position was a Train Carer at Brighton depot.
2nd interview with Southern, failed it by a small margin. (March 2012) The position was a Train Carer at Chichester Railway Station
3rd (Telephone interview) with Southern, passed the interview, but still ongoing. (March 2012/April 2012) The position is an Olympic Customer Care Assistant at various locations, in my case, it may well be Worthing, so I was told.

1st interview with SWT, failed, still awaiting feedback (May 2012) This is for a gateline assistant at Southampton Central.
2nd interview with SWT, still waiting, may not get offered the interview if I fail the assessments. This is a position for a "graduate manager" for SWT, except I am not that hopeful I will be offered the position.

Weird? You bet, if you see a theme, there is one, its the rail industry and the time taken to go from application to interview can be a long time. The shortest response from application to assessment (Yes, railways are weird) was TWO DAYS! The longest has been near enough, a month to 2 months with the same company, that's the second interview with South West Trains.

Now, if I knew exactly what I did right the first time round with Southern, I'd be onto a winner. Its been noted I am very enthusiastic and my interview with Southern was apparently very strong, the trouble was, I didn't convey my examples correctly for the "competency" part of the interview. For those that don't know, they ask you a situation, you answer how you deal with it and you are scored based on that. What they are looking for is a start (what was the problem), what was the action you took (dealing with the issue) and what was done about it (the outcome.)

However, so far, 6 of 7 applications have had a positive outcome, I.e. I was offered assessments, so its not that bad and shows I am doing something right, the question is, what and how do I get over the interview problem? The good news is I am getting help with that, because I also suffer from Asperger's Syndrome, so I think I have an idea what it could be, well a lot of reasons which I can't fix:
- Lack of eye contact
- Unable to convey myself correctly.
- Body language issues.

And those reasons (and more) is the same reason why I am on this site as it also affects my abilities for relationships, just so you understand, because I am sure some don't understand AS.

On the other hand, my sister for her current job, she had 3 interviews with the same manager for the same company for similar positions at different stores, the first time she was unsuccessful and may of been too far away, the second time she failed for unknown reasons, the third time, she was offered the job and I think they invited her to an interview without an application, she may of been offered the position from the start however, I am not too sure as she wasn't clear about it.

Congratulations, but BE CAREFUL. It may be in your best interest to meet that one manager before formally accepting the job. Who you work for is just as important as the work you will do. That manager could be a nightmare. Once you accept the new job (and quit a month later), your former employer may have already hired a replacement and you can't easily go back.

Also, many states legally allow employers to terminate new hires WITHOUT CAUSE during the first 90 days of employment. Make your best impression during those 90 days. Watch out for petty reprimands (especially written ones) from managers - they are a paper trail that at-will employers still like to maintain.
