| Would you tell someone on here what companies you have job interviews at? Posted: 6/19/2012 7:40:29 PM | That was intrusive of him to ask. It would turn me off that he does not know what is appropriate to ask people. What will he ask my relatives when I introduce him. I can see if he asked what type of job you are interviewing for but what difference does the company name make.
You can not answer his question is a nice way. Just say you are superstitious and don't want to discuss it.

To me it's casual conversation if you're talking to someone who is looking for employment. Hell, I have a good job and am always looking for bigger and better things. I just submitted my resume to Apple... uh oh so much personal info! Hope no one here sabotages me :)

One of my 'rules' when dealing with unexpected or prying questions is to turn it back on them and ask why they want to know. You can do this conversationally "Gosh, I've applied to lots lately - why do you ask?" Then continue your message as you would normally, send it, and wait for a response.

He might just want to know if it's maybe the same company that he or his friends worked at, but I really doubt it is. I already told him the town it's in, so I don't think I need to tell him anything else lol, especially since most of you guys said not to tell him. He seems nice, but sometimes stalkers who show up at someone's workplace seem nice at first. :P

Posted: 6/20/2012 7:55:18 AM | | Don't tell someone you don't really know and never met face to face what companies you are being interviewed by. It's best not to give out too much private information. This guy may seem trustworthy, but maybe he isn't. When you are applying for jobs, the period between being interviewed and getting called up is a sensitive one. This man you're talking to could put a spanner in the works. It's possible.

I once told a guy the establishment where I worked at and 2 days later he showed up and told me he was outside and that I should come out and say hi. I was mortified and had to creep out of the back door. I told him that no I was not coming out and it was inappropriate and he wouldn't take no for an answer. That taught me a big lesson. I was hiding outside for about 45 minutes.

| Would you tell someone on here what companies you have job interviews at? Posted: 6/20/2012 7:33:58 PM | I'm of two minds on this issue:
On one hand, I severed contact with a young woman who refused to say what she did for a living (im not trying to end up in a relationship with a stripper or a porn star).
On the other hand...jobs that you interviewed for but didn't move further with the company is superflous information at this point in communication.
I've had to outright tell women that the question they were asking was inappropriate. In your case, I'd have done just that.

I would tell someone what I do for a living, but that is it. No place of emloyment. When I have been pushed, I have merely said when I get to know you better, I will tell you where I work. Seems to be acceptable. There is a big difference between telling someone what you do and where you work.
I had a guy once tell me that he worked for the "local steel company" and my answer was "what a coincidence, so does my son" Not such a big deal with a company that has over 7000 employees I guess we both felt save revealing that.
OP I would certainly not tell a stranger where I worked or where I had a job interview, it is really none of their business.
