Extremely Loud, Incredibly ClosePage 1 of 1
Has anyone else seen this movie? Well, I am sure many have since it was released Christmas day. I just saw it last night and thought it was one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. It had twists I didn't see coming and the end was a surprise. It is not an action movie at all, but about a boy who lost his father on 9-11-2001 and the guilt he carries and the endeavors he goes through to hold onto the connection with his dad, even though he is gone. He also becomes aware that he has had no connection with his mother.

Not every point in this movie is tied up nicely with an answer, but that is the way life is.

Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks, Max von Sydow, Viola Davis and John Goodman all take a back seat to this little boy Thomas Horn, who did an excellent job of playing this character.

It is an excellent movie if you are looking for something different.

I watched it some time ago and yes, the twist at the end was certainly unexpected.

Great movie!

Good luck on that Burton. People have been asking for a tv/movie forum for years and Markus is adamantly saying NO. He says it doesn't attract women LOL I don;t watch much tv, but movies? What woman doesn't like movies?? I have never met those women. You can search the threads it is talked about in.

Haven't seen it but now I will rent it. Sounds good SS.

There should be a 'What's the last movie you saw ?......and what did you think of it?' thread in the Art forum since film is an art.

My last is Babe with my boys on tv.

I didn't go see this movie because the trailers looked like it might have some anti-U.S., pro-terrorists PC message, which would've just pi$$ed me off lol....was I wrong, or did it?

I don't want to give anything away, because the twist makes the movie, but no it's not political, it's about the loss of a father and how a child deals with it.

I wasn't too into it, thought it kept veering off, but then it gets you and it all makes sense. Great movie.

Charmin, I think you will love it and your boys can watch it too, maybe. It is rated PG13 because of like 4 curse words and all of them go on between the boy and the doorman to his building. However, if your boys aren't teens, it may go right over their heads, because the words are inserted into the middle of long strung together words they call each other.

Catt, no, nothing political at all, terrorists are not even mentioned. I know what you mean about commercials. I refused to watch Avatar for a year and a half, a movie I love, because the commercials showed some blue animals with the persona of humans, having sex. I thought it was an adult animated sex movie about animals. They really seem to pick the worst scenes to advertise movies. My stand not to watch it was increased when everyone claimed it as the best movie of all time. In light of the commercial I saw, I was horrified that they give it that title. One night, I was just in the mood to check it out after a friend told me that it wasn't at all what I thought. 20 minutes into it I was hooked.

Dayna, it does get you and bring you back in, doesn't it? I just loved it. It is a refreshingly different kind of movie.

Addicted, no Markus is not going to change his mind. Search if you want to see what he has said about it.

Micki, what can I say?

I think we have to post about movies and tv here in OffTopic. I asked, but they didn't even grace the question with an answer. In PoF, movies and tv are not considered art.

If Tom Hanks is in it then its more than likely a good movie ... I'm tired of being forced to relive 9/11 over and over again ... and I like Tom Hanks' movies.

Mysteria, it really isn't about 9-11. The only part that plays in the movie at all is the reason the father is dead, other than that, it is not even in the movie.

It is funny that you say you are tired of having to relive 9-11 over and over. I had a conversation with someone a few weeks ago that said the same thing. For whatever reason, I have never seen a single thing about it, like it was all blacked out. I know for some time it was ordered off of tv by Bush. I have no clue when it started coming back on and then on the internet too, because I have never run into any of it. From my point of view, it is treated as though it never happened. I guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time to get exposure to it.

Not sure how you can equate choosing to watch a movie ......to being forced to relive 9/11 ???

I'm with SS........I rarely see anything related to 9/11
to the point I think people have forgot what that day means to many.........especially the ones that have no choice but to relive it day after day........

I did see a commercial for a movie I'd like to have a girls night out to see......
Magic Mike!!
