Fifty Shades of Bleh!Page 1 of 4    (1, 2, 3, 4)
Am i the only one who has noticed a surge in profiles that refer to this book that seems to be popular at the moment?

I have even been told it will be every mans bible one day. Personally it sounds like more fantasy for people to live up to or just a modern day equivelant or Mr Darcy?

If I can remeber my literature lessons Mr. Darcy wasn't the nicest man around. I bit of a user if I remember right.

Always make me laugh when I see women wanting a 'Mr Darcy' and then moaning about all the players they get, but hey that's what you've asked for.

I think it's just a big publicity stunt to get a best seller. I haven't read it but people I know who have, said it is a pretty poor read and mainly porn. I would suspect that many read it just out of curiosity. But I won't be!

Take from what i put in whatever form you want....but sometimes fantasy should stay that fantasy and sometimes what is written in books is better than when you try it for real.......The main guy is somebody who doesnt like to be touched or hugged....call me old fashioned but a cuddle for me is sometimes more intimate than sex !

Its a little bit of erotica. Lots of the book is off putting. The whips and chains and stuff Yuk.. The 'vanilla' sex scenes are quite enjoyable but it is samey after a while.
Im on book number 3 in the trilogy . Ill tell you when i finish if its helped Lol

My friend is looking to buy it for her mother. I told her to read it before she does, she may change her mind. I'm not sure my mum would like it.

I knew a woman like that ............ hated the idea when a group of us went for Pamper days at the spa that she might have to endure a facial or a massage. Couldn't work out for the life of me how she had four children ............... then I remembered her husband was a doctor ;) ............. Drugs or a turkey baster would be my thought.

In case you haven't noticed...... Women are social creatures and this book simply gives them something else to talk about. Take no notice, it'll be forgotten and out of fashion this time next year.

Once again Mr Strider hits the nail on the head.

On a kinda related/unrelated point ive noticed a lot less use of the word 'Zumba' on profiles.

Did that particular flavour of month get old quickly or have I not been looking at enough profiles!

I've read all three to see what the fuss was about. Money plays a big part in that book. The main female character isn't all that comfortable with the money aspect but how he spends it on her and the experiences it allows him to show her add to the whole effect of the story. Why is money such a turn on for a lot women? most men couldn't give a rats arse if a woman has money or not. Also who would have thought he turns out to be an alien at the end of book 3? ;-p

vvvvvvv 1 day ago in the guardian...

It's pointless to deny that there's something going on here: EL James has now sold 4 million copies of her Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy via her UK publisher, Random House, to add to the 15 million (it beggars belief) that have been shifted in the US and Canada. In three months. In the UK, it's the fastest-selling book ever in both physical and ebook incarnations. There's just been an extra print run for the UK market, to meet demand: 2.75 million copies. It's the fastest selling adult novel of all time

i havent read the book.. but i plan to... it sounds like it has rather a gripping storyline.. :-)

msg 15 ---SPOILER ALERT---
The bigger the bucks the better the fvcks?
Read a passage, not my cup of tea, for me it was like reading something a 12yr old had written but I did only read a pinch of it.
Its like Strider said, all my nieces have read/are reading it, and yes they do have a chin-wag about it. They are all in the late teens/early 20s.

I got sent the book for my Kindle and can only say I am glad I didn't waste a penny on it. I forced myself to read halfway through it, convinced it couldn't be such utter drivel all the way through. I was wrong. As Roxy mentioned, it seems very much like a 15 year old (12 is maybe a little young) has written it, living in a world of total fantasy.

A clumsy virginal woman, a freaky male millionnaire, a contract to succumb to his every desire and orgasms produced virtually at will - lots of very expensive gifts. THE END

The only thing that has been done very well is the publicity.

Sounds like just the sort of plot and writing style that will appeal massively to the avid watchers of Mr Kyle and read nothing more taxing than celebrity goss pulp - the average reading age of a school leaver is ?? -Explains the huge sales.
Now where's my pen?............

I have read the books, and i actually liked them not for the sex which yes there is a lot of proberbly too much haha, but for the storyline i think its very romantic and sweet in a way, its not all about the contract thats not the important part of the story if thats all your focus is on your focus is wrong, it deals with some very serious issues.
Its focusing on the fact not all relationships are ideal and how two people who want different things can learn to comprimise.

The trouble is with this book is that those who havent read it at all, or even havent read it fully are giving it a lot of bad press. The focus seems to be on the sex and i think its scarying people, but its not porn, it officially has a storyline. It is indeed a modern day romance story, showing that in the modern day what people look for first is sexual compatiblity then when thats found do people concentrate on the relationship side of things.

All i can say is dont judge the book unless you read it, i wouldnt say it should become a mans bible as every women is different and its about finding what works for her.

If nothing else it will take away attention from Bridget Jones. If I read the words "emotional f**kwit" one more time I'm going to scream!
