Problem with new tv audioPage 1 of 1
Just bought a new Tv. A Hisense 42" Class LED-LCD 1080p 60Hz HDTV,(1.5" ultra-slim) F42K20E.

Problem I am having is when I change the channel i get a static noise for about one or two seconds then it stops. Very annoying. Had cable guy look at it and he said it was a problem with tv not the cable. Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix?

Thank you

are you changing channels from the tv or a cable box? how is the box connected to the tv? coaxial? hdmi? is it all channel changes?

have you looked for the companies web site? is there a support section? have you looked up any tech forums to see if others are having this issue?

the tv shouldn't do what it's doing but maybe you can avoid the issue with some settings. or maybe you need to send it in for warranty repair.

it's probably the tv changing modes for input resolution or maybe audio signal type. does the screen go black for a second after it already shows the new channel?

try this, go into settings on the box and see it you can set the output resolution, you might need to read through the manual to find this. force the box into 1080i or 1080p mode so it does all the upscaling not the tv. if that doesn't fix the audio look for options that have to do with the audio stream, see if it give the option for pcm or dolby digital and force it into pcm.

Not all channels are 1080 but you could always get a surround system and not use tv audio.

just because 1080p is enabled doesn't mean it is always used, you have a setting on the box that has the available output modes, sometimes several are enabled and it will use the resolution that the channel is broadcast in. if you disable the lower modes it might make the 720p channels look slightly fuzzier but the box will upscale the image to 1080p, this way it avoids the box from switching modes and forcing the tv to do the same.

pcm is a type of digital audio signal. there are several types of digital audio used including pcm, dolby digital, and various versions of dts. without a surround sound system it's all irrelevant and one isn't really better than the other, the difference between dolby and dts has mostly to due with what studio released the movie, they have about the same features but work a bit differently. if the audio signal doesn't match the decoder you will here garbage that resembles static or white noise, like when you didn't have the right codecs installed for all your pirated music and videos 10 years ago.... the noise you here can be a hesitation in the decoder recognizing a mismatch and switching modes. adding a surround sound system just complicates things, if you take audio directly off the box then you may have to switch multiple sources if you also have things like dvd, blueray, xbox, or a ps3 hooked up. if you take audio off the output from the tv you might not solve the noise problem...

it seems like the farther forward we go with technology the more backwards we go. ya gotta be an engineering student to set the stuff up correctly.. and it's funny my 20yo tv changes channels instantly but on my modern plasma screen there is a delay and the cable box is plagued with hard drive failures, constant firmware updates, kernel panics and just plain poor performance and instability.
