By posting you have ADHD is being upfront so if anyone want to persue you already know prior to sending you a note. I view it as a good post, only b/c it weeds out the guys who will not be supportive. It's no different from the women who only post face shots then later tell the guy she is 300lbs lol. Good Luck!

ADHD is often misunderstood. Until very, very recently, I, like many others considered it a convenient label for a kid whose parents needed to step up. Although this is far more common place then I realized, unless someone has first hand experience of this, it can initially be thought of negatively. How this term affects one person from another can vary hugely and it would be shame to have those who have minimal information about this condition pass you by because of it. Personally, I would wait before mentioning it as you will want the opportunity to explain how this affects you vs someone's presumptions about it.

Statistically, those with ADHD struggle in long term relationships and require a partner who understands how those with ADHD think and act in order to better communicate with one another. This part of ADHD will require some discussion if you find yourself in a relationship which seems to be getting serious.

OP, would be nice if everybody with
ADHD or other conditions were as
up front about it as you are.
I would talk to/date a woman who said:
"I have ADHD, please don't take advantage of me!"

Your post is all over the place.

I have put I have ADHD on my profile is that to soon or not?

I wouldn't put it on your profile.
It can wait until you have met the individual.

How would it affect said date?or man?

There is an excellent website called

www.additudemag.com

where you can obtain information on how ADHD effects relationships.
Check out the forms there.

The biggest problem with ADHD, and with expecting anyone to know what it means if it's in your profile, is that the term itself doesn't have a well-defined enough meaning for anyone to know how to respond.

Put whatever you think might be helpful in your profile, but don't be surprised if people who contact you still have no idea what it might or might not mean for them.

I don't think it matters one way or the other if you put it in your profile. The only people that are going to be run off by it or the ignorant.

But what would make me hit the back button is how you somehow have a degree in creative writing but your profile reads as if you couldn't pass an high school English exam.

No. Let them know once you have met them and decided if their character is someone you would enjoy in your life.

Don't mess with their heads though. if you want to beat up on something then I suggest you get a punching bag...you can get one for around a couple of bills...scream and punch...I have heard it is very therapeutic. Humans are not punching bags...that includes you.

I don't think you should mention it...

I think you should learn how to deal with it yourself so that it doesn't greatly effect others.

When I see someone state something like that, I think they expect me to give them some kind of special treatment or less expectations than I would otherwise.

That's a cop out.

If you're a complete failure at figuring out how to deal with your own issues, people will find out soon enough.

I have aspergers syndrome, and I feel like I don't know when it's the best time to let people know, also I was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma which is a form of cancer, it could get awkward if the topic of kids pops up further on down the line. Ignorance is one thing that you don't want, if someone is willing to get to accept every part of you then good luck, but if not then I'm sure u will find someone who will

I am betting it will become apparent quickly in your messaging and they can determine if its a problem. Most dont really understand it honestly. Take it slow and ease into that during messaging. No need to slap it on your profile. Not like you are an amputee or in a wheelchair anything that needs explained up front. I guess I view adhd different. I have been around several people that had this and their symptoms varied wildly. Some you could only occasionally tell and it is was honestly sort of endearing. One was often really borderline scary. Unless you are scary leave it off the profile.

If you want to put it in your profile that is completely up to you.

Personally I find the medical term to be misleading.
Attention Deficit Disorder / Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.... wow how cold.
ADD/ADHD is not a deficiency in attention it is more that they have to much attention.
A much better term would be Attention Surplus Disorder.

Allow me to explain.
The average brain takes in 5,000 sensory inputs in any given day.
A person with ADD/ADHD taken in up to 25,000 sensory inputs in any given day.
The difficulty lies in the ability to ignore the non important secondary inputs. Which is why the situation where a shiny object captures the attention of the ADD/ADHD mind. The shininess forces out the non important secondary inputs.

You mentioned the trait of obsessing over Final Fantasy. This is very normal behavior okay.
This is labeled and understood as the "Ability to hyper focus on something you are passionate about".

Now understand the opposite of this being the Procrastination. This happens when you are faced with doing something that you are not passionate about and don't want to do it. Again very normal.

Both are at the extreme opposite ends... your duty, so to speak, is to find the balance, and to use your gifts for good and betterment of society as a whole.

The gene responsible for ADD/ADHD is the same gene that aspired DiVinci to create his master pieces, which made Robin William such a great comedian, that made Bono from U2 so successful. The same gene that people see in the charismatic Ty Pennington.

They have the "activated" DRD4 gene. There is a tremendous amount of information available on line for this gene and a wealth of information on how it effects primary and secondary behaviors and so forth.

You said you have ADHD. Have you and your Dr. determined which type you have?

* Type 1 -- Classic ADHD. All of the hallmark symptoms of ADHD, plus hyperactivity and impulsivity. Responds well to stimulant medications.

* Type 2 -- Inattentive ADHD. All of the hallmark features of ADHD, but instead of hyperactivity, there is low energy. Also responds well to stimulant medications.

* Type 3 -- Over focused ADHD. All of the hallmark features of ADHD, in addition to negative thoughts and behaviors, such as opposition and arguing. Tends to respond better to an antidepressant (SSRI, such as Prozac) combined with a stimulant.

* Type 4 -- Temporal Lobe ADHD. The hallmark features of ADHD, plus irritability, aggressiveness, and memory and learning problems. Responds better to anti seizure medications (Neurontin) than to stimulants.

* Type 5 -- Limbic ADHD. Combines ADHD with depression and low energy and decreased motivation. Responds better to stimulating antidepressants (such as Wellbutrin) than to stimulants.

* Type 6 -- The Ring of Fire. Cross between ADHD and bipolar disorder. Characterized by moodiness, aggressiveness, and anger. Anticonvulsants or newer antipsychotic medications tend to work better than stimulants.

I am not sure what stage of understanding you are at with your particular type of ADHD.
I will however suggest to you to buy a book titled The DiVinci Method. It is written by a very successful man who has ADHD and utilized the powerful abilities those with ADD/ADHD have.
Just buy it and read it... trust me on this one, you will not regret it.

If you wish to send to me a message to further discuss this. Let me know and I will remove any email setting preventing you from doing so.
