Single guys with cats?Page 1 of 1
Alright. So I had a girl tell me once, that a single guy with a cat is a red flag. I just read another girl basically say the same thing.

So ladies, I want your input. Why is a single guy, with a cat, a red flag? I want good reasons. Not "I'm allergic to them!" or something along those lines. Good, valid reasons.

I think women who judge people on such ridiculous things are more of a red flag than a man with a cat. I think men who place more then 5 seconds thought into such trival matters are more of a red flag than a man with a cat.

Learn to process information and throw out the comments which are trash. Do you really have enough spare room in your brain to hold onto crap like this ?

Jeez - it's requires the same amount of processing power as any generalization, such as people without a car are recovering alcoholics who don't trust themselves to drive ! I mean really, come on. Engage brain.

You laugh, but "players" usually prefer cats as pets. I have a dog.

Some women think a man with a cat for a pet is in the closet.

It doesn't help if he also likes to shop and is very neat.

I'm not saying they're right to assume that, I'm just sayin'

Seriously? Players usually prefer cats? Because they're less work, thus giving the pimp time to play his games?

I'd say if some women think a single guy with a cat is a red flag, it might be because "dog is man's best friend".
I will say that most guys I know that own a cat are much more sensitive and a bit less masculine than the men I know that have dogs. Using a guy's pet as an excuse to not date him though? I can only understand that if the pet seems scary....snakes, bears, tigers, lions...you know, the kind of wild animals that shouldn't be pets in the first place.

They think your cat is an unemployed, stay a home, gold digger that will hog your lap and attention. Those girls simply don't like competition. HUGE red flag!

Single guy with cats a red flag? not at all! I'd just be envious if he has two or three and i'm just allowed to have my one.

Me thinks you meet the wrong people... true animal lovers will understand why others have pets.

I would love to meet someone who has a cat or a dog or any type of pet, that way he would probably understand why I have to make arrangements if I go away because my cat is sick and requires medication twice a day for the rest of her life. It doesn't stop me from living but it means that spontaneous getaways might be a little tricky to arrange. And to me, someone who loves and take care of animal cannot truly be a bad person :)

If anything, I think a man who owns a cat is confident and intelligent - cats don't feed one's ego like a dog typically does.

It's just a preferance, really. I guess I'm just not a big animal person, and I find cats in particular creepy and weird and suspicious - like they're always up to something.

I wouldn't say I'd exclude myself from dating a guy with a cat - it just depends on how "into" the cat he was. Like if he liked having it around for the company and just fed it and let it do it's own thing, that'd be fine. But if he talked baby talk to it (like lots of people do with their cat/dog) and let it lick his face . . . yuck - no way. No offense to animal lovers, but that is too mcuh for me.

I would agree that cats do make a guy seem less masculaine than dogs (unless it's a scrappy little purse-sized dog).

Yeah, I like most types of dogs but I wouldn't want to kiss a woman who's face was shining with dog slobber !

^So you are stereotyping because of the way his animal looks? I wonder what that would be called if you did that say about someone's race? Hmmm ...it's on the tip of my tongue. Help me out will ya?

I grew up with cats and have two of my own. Despite what people say, they are sociable, friendly and great companions. Unlike people, they don't judge me on my looks, my height, my bank balance, my perceived success, my skin colour, the size of my house or what car I drive.
I come with two cats and that's not negotiable. If a woman wants to judge me on that without even knowing me then that's quite a useful way of filtering out stupid women.

That's the sort of thing I'd expect to hear from a blonde 14 year old girl who has no idea what masculinity means.
Kindness and compassion to all animals, and not being afraid to show it is a sign of a true man.

I have a cat and it doesn't make me less manly, she was starving and I have a soft spot for strays. My cat does her thing and I do mine, we have an agreement.

Eh, to each his own. I'm not going to apologize for my perceptions or opinions. This is a free country: if you like and want pets, have them (whatever kind). If not, then so be it. That's why I said I wouldn't automatically exclude myself from dating a guy with a cat. I have my opinions, but I am also open to different experiences and not closed off to the possibility of things/people being different from they seem.

And whoever equated my opnion on cats to judging someone on their race, that's a FAAAAAAR strectch - like saying that someone who doesn't care for pizza hates Italians. Bet you're someone who likes to throw out the "homophobic" card a lot too!

you're right on the money. when i had a dog, i would drink bourbon, ride a harley and beat up queers for fun. then the dog died and a neighborhood cat adopted me, and now i drink umbrella c0ckails, drive a miata and hit on queers for fun.

i'm also planning to head to the pet store today for a gerbil. since pets are destiny, you know what that means.
