Do women still find a man that's 'handy' attractive?Page 1 of 1
I was wondering if women still value a man's competence to apply his hands and mind to household problems. It seems that in our tech crazed world these days simple things like installing a water heater or changing transmission to building a kids treehouse, are beyond the scope of most guys' skill.

Does it matter to you if your man can fix the dryer ladies or am I an anachronism once again?

I'm always looking for a guy who can build me a solar power array for my off-grid Zombie Apocalypse hideout. I might steal your tools tho...

Edit: I just looked at your profile. Kinda spooky. If you tell me you have a closet full of MRE's and ammo, you can be the leader of my post apocalypse raiding gang. Do you know how to properly rig a tiger pit?

In Red Green's world " If they don't find you handsome at least they can find you Handy" he never mentioned anything about being ready and available or good with tools attractive though.

I was reared on a farm, in the bottoms, by my Korean war vet grandad in Ky. Don't fret the small stuff, I got that in my front pocket lol.

We prepped before it was a dang show, we just call it good old country livin ;p In all seriousness the zombie head line is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, I'm not an end of the world nut job...

Yes, I could fab your array readily :)

I find it refreshing when a man is more competent with a tool box than I am. Sadly I have found that I usually have to be the one to fix things in the last couple of relationships I had. And also teach them basic tools like hammer, drill, screwdriver, etc. LOL

And no I don't date feminine men, I just have the luck of finding the ones without a tool clue.

Well I'll be damned. As long as you don't ask me to marry you, I think we will get along just fine.

Don't make fun of my .22 LR, I'm sensitive about it.

Welcome to the jungle.

There is definitely a trend in today's male in that they can't do squat. I just was curious as to how many of you keyed into this and are putting a higher priority on being handy these days Onlydateif.

For me it's not a prerequisite, but I do find it attractive and masculine. I would rather share my (rather impressive, may I add) toolbox with my guy, than contents of my makeup bag.

Don't be knocking the guyliner. It is perfectly acceptable in certain circles. Usually involves guitars.

You know he's a badazz if he can kill a zombie with a guitar string.

Guyliner is never ok, period. Unless put on a passed out victim who was a major douche to further be rediculed for being a douche.

Please don't get me off topic about the emo boys that cry and piss themselves when their eyeliner smears lol.

Red Green was neither handsome nor handy, but "he made me laugh."
My other favorite quote of his was "If I can do it -- it ain't art."

Oh. The question.
I fink women who like you for you, will consider being handy a bonus.
Running around using words like "anachronism" probably another bonus.

My Honey Pie can fix any damn thing around the house AND COOK, in fact he fixed my dryer on about our 3rd date; but I'd love him even if he couldn't do either of those things.

As a fix-it guy myself, I have found over the years that women in general, appreciate a guy who can do stuff, pretty much the same way other guys appreciate it. Nothing more or less.

It adds to your desirability if they already like you, and it gets you more firmly entrenched as "friends only" if they don't.

HECK YEAH! They love a guy that can repair and fix their zhit! Car repair is s huge plus too. List all the power tools you own on your profile. You will get lots more messages. NO KIDDING I AM SERIOUS!

They are not going to boink you unless they also happen to find you attractive. but... you will be allowed fix her "plumbing". Just not the plumbing you wanted to be"fixing" for her (wink).

Many women list the qualities they seek in a man. How many profiles have you seen with lists of home repair abilities on their that wish list along with attractive, caring, affectionate, honest etc...

I have honestly seen some. Along with all the stuff I just named. But you never see the list of skills needed without the "attractive, honest, caring, romantic etc..." unless she is in the middle of a major home restoration remodeling project and she still wont boink ya. But she may cook ya a free dinner or two.

Look for te right gal you will be a GREAT catch..if... she finds ya fun, attractive and all that required stuff also. Your skills are like huge bonus points. Thats the gravy on top not really the meat and potato's. So hopefully there is more to you then just handy man skillz.

Kudo's my friend! Guys probably will respect ya and your skillz more then the woman because we dont care if your cute or romantic. We think you are awesome when you turn the table saw on. If you have a cooler of cold beer we will come by everyday to hangout in your garage and fondle your Dewalt tools. Most women wont fondle your tools no matter how hard you work for them if they dont think you are cute (wink) Fickle women just dont respect a guy like you do they? m(smile) Try this... Next time a woman contacts you and says her toilet is backed up and can you come help... Just lay it out there. Be honest. Ask her if she intends to "fondle your tools" while you work.

Good Luck

I have never dated a handyman. In fact, those I have had relationships with have struggled to put up a shelf. So I learned. I finished the basement in my house from the concrete perimeter to the paint and floors- although my father did the wiring on a visit and so the only electrical work I had to do was install the light fixtures.

I have a huge appreciation for people who have these skills especially now I have an understanding of the time it takes rather then the historical event of asking my father to do something and it magically happened. I can certainly see the benefits of having someone to help with these things but it's not a requirement of mine, just another skill set among many which is appreciated if it's there.

I dated a man who could build anything, fix anything -- loved it when he wore his tool belt!!! I wanted to break something around my place just so I could watch him fix it!

Sure, if he is tall , sexy , has a brain, doesn't live with mama and still has a job. Very sexy. I mean we won't date *just anyone* because he can fix the damn dryer. Sears does it for 45$.
