MIAMI -- A South Florida woman previously charged with injecting people with Fix-a-Flat in a black market buttock-enhancing business was arrested Thursday on a charge of manslaughter, authorities said.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said Oneal Morris, 32, was arrested at her mother's house in Coconut Creek on one count of manslaughter.
Shatarka Nuby, 32, died in March in Tallahassee from what an assistant medical examiner called "massive systemic silicone migration" as a result of the cosmetic silicone injections, authorities said.
"Shatarka Nuby would pay a transvestite she knew as Dutchess up to hundreds of dollars to come to her house and inject her buttocks, hips, thighs and breasts with an unknown substance. Then Dutchess, sometimes wearing medical scrubs and a stethoscope, would seal the injection sites with super glue and cotton balls," the Broward Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Morris has been arrested multiple times on allegations of performing cosmetic procedures with no license in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties
The alleged victims have stories similar to Nuby's, who wrote a letter to the Department of Health shortly before she died. Nuby was the only victim whose complications were fatal, authorities said.
Nuby told friends and relatives that the injection sites became hard and hot and her skin turned black. Another alleged victim had to undergo surgery after an injection, authorities said.
Morris had previously turned herself in to authorities in March to face charges of medicine without a license and practicing medicine without a license resulting in serious injury. She was released the same day.
OMG- I cannot believe in today's day & age people would fall 4 this...scary...this alleged unlicensed person was doing this for a while b4 they got caught. Do you think they deserve to be convicted for manslaughter? PS- there is a photo of one of the "victims" if you look further...I thought it was photoshopped at first, never have seen anything like this...

This woman was practicing medicine without having a medical degree and it caused a death to a human being. The victims wanted to save money and were not smart enough to realize the danger they put themselves in. Not having common sense have cost them.

I bet if she had been really using silicone it would have worked but there is a chance with the silicone floating to the heart. Women of color want the same effect many other women want with the breast. Larger butt and thighs is better. An unnatural amount of largeness. They should have gone down to Brazil.

| Suspect in Florida butt-enhancement death now charged with manslaughter Posted: 7/27/2012 8:11:22 AM | I suspect a Darwin Award might be presented.
Not for one minute am I saying the victim deserved to die but jeez, at some point, people have to take some personal responsibility. Anyone with basic logic can see this wasn't a legitimate procedure - I think I would have more sympathy for the victim had this been going on in what at least appeared to be a medical environment but later turned out to be a fake doctor.
Who would allow a medical procedure to be performed by someone they knew only as Duchess even if they sometime wore scrubs and a stethoscope! Nothing about this entire scenario has any indication of professionalism so why they heck would the victim allow this procedure to be performed ? When the clues are screaming at you, surely you would need to listen.
Human beings are capable of incredible and amazing things so why the heck do so many of them peak at stupid ?

| Suspect in Florida butt-enhancement death now charged with manslaughter Posted: 7/27/2012 9:47:28 AM | Thinking more about this....and I might be wrong here as I don't know the definitions of law in the States, but it is my understanding that manslaughter is used for when murder occurs but the offender is affected by the need to self defend, was provoked or in a mental state resulting in them being devoid of ill-intent (I think it's termed diminished capacity ?) I can't see any indication of where these three situations would apply.
Also, logically, if the defendant was going to be charged with effectively murder, then surely that would need to be reflected as the cause of death on the Death Certificate. But how is, inviting someone known as Duchess, to inject an unknown component into a willing body, murder ? The victim permitted this and in fact paid for it, with a good indication based in common sense that this was being performed by a non-medical, or qualified individual. Now I'm not suggesting it was suicide but the victim has some responsibility here in the outcome.
If someone jumped out of a plane without a parachute, common sense warms that it's not going to end well, would the person who opened the door to allow them to jump be open to manslaughter/murder charges ? Just wondering.

but also... the so called "victim" should be sent for psyche counseling and possible psyche ward stint, no compensation in damages.
Both parties are crazy.

How can a dead person be subjected to counselling to assess their mental capacities - and if the victim isn't dead, then how can there be a manslaughter charge ?

| Suspect in Florida butt-enhancement death now charged with manslaughter Posted: 7/27/2012 9:59:00 AM | true......... attempted murder then.
can there not be manslaughter unless someone is dead? I am not sure on this... I think maybe? ( please google it, would be interesting to see) if someone must be dead to get a manslaughter conviction
:)
injecting fix a flat into someone is crazy letting someone inject fix a flat into you is crazy
I thought the article said someone died and it was the person getting the fix a flat injected into them? Maybe my mistake?
To me this is serious crazy stuff and should be dealt with as such. It's insane and on a criminal level....... !!! on both accounts of the giver and one who got the fix a flat.

| Suspect in Florida butt-enhancement death now charged with manslaughter Posted: 7/27/2012 10:10:41 AM | F.S. 782.07 (Florida Statute) - "The killing of a human being by the act, procurement, or culpable negligence of another, without lawful justification according to the provisions of chapter 776 and in cases in which such killing shall not be excusable homicide or murder, according to the provisions of this chapter, is manslaughter, "

The woman mentioned in the OP, Shatarka Nuby, died. I believe this is why there is a charge of manslaughter. The other victims did not die. The charge is appropriate, IMO. The ignorance of a victim (extreme in this case), does not excuse the alleged behavior of the person charged.

| Suspect in Florida butt-enhancement death now charged with manslaughter Posted: 7/27/2012 12:28:26 PM | Coyotefeller, it can mean accidental/stupid (at times), but I believe it can also mean where there is no "malice aforethought" or intent. Which includes self-defense.
In this case I'm just failing to see a victim here. It's like suing McDonald's for being obese. These people were attempting to beat the system by paying less for cosmetic procedures than anybody else has to.
What gets me is that the offender turned herself in at one point and was released the same day. If she is charged with manslaughter, the court system may have to admit to an error.
