Is my profile too intellectual? Page 1 of 1
I find that women do view my profile, but they never message me. Is there something I can improve within my profile? Is the narrative that I have at the beginning effective? Should I tone down the intellectual rhetoric?

What do I come off as? Smart, charming and attractive, or intimidating, and foolish?

Thanks!

At first I thought the narrative should go but really it fits in with your whole profile. Unless you were to rewrite from scratch since it is all intellectual, leave it as is perhaps adding two or three sentences about the girl you would like to share your pursuits with in a relationship. You do not come off to me as intimidating or foolish, you come off to me as intellectual though not snobbishly so and interesting as well in that I get a sense there is more to you than just the journalism stuff. You could always add a sentence or two about non journalism activities you enjoy, you know like regular joes.

Your 4th profile review in the last year and second this month. Figure it out yourself if you are so intelligent or follow the rules. (shakes head)

It's well written, but note that philosophical types get killed on PoF. I suggest try your luck on other sites.

You may be fishing for sailfish in a muddy backyard pond where there are mostly just catfish..
Unless you also like many cats, shift your focus locally to a target-rich environment like your local bookstores and college coffee shops..

OP--

I disagree, respectfully but completely, with "ChopstickHero" and "TALL-IQ2"; if anyone is qualified to pass judgment on whether you come across as "too intellectual" to do well here, I daresay I am--and I think you'll do just fine.

Suggested changes/tweaks:

(1) Photos: Substitute a full-body shot for one of them, and replace two more with you outside, doing something "normal" and fun.

(2) As already suggested, add in to your "About Me" section a few paragraphs about your interests outside of work, and about the kind of person you hope to meet. Remember--when somebody views a profile, the question they are asking themselves is: "Do I qualify?" Give the lady something to go on, a reason to say yes! Look to the profile of "campfires" and to my own profile for ideas--you're a pro writer, adapt and modify what works for you.

(3) Delete the 2nd paragraph of the "First Date" section, and end the first paragraph with the word, "chat."

(4) Delete all items in black in your "Interests" box, but add "vinyl records." The blue items are searchable; give a lady the opportunity to find your profile this way!

@mtjd1990:

It helps because a woman, whose life experience in this world is exactly three times yours, sees no red flags in the OP's profile and believes he has a good shot with it. That means something.

I've found/attracted and dated a few hi IQ (>99.8 percentile) women on POF.
Use your intelligence, don't proclaim it or flaunt it. {No, I didn't find a 99.998th percentile woman, but I would rather discuss what varieties of vegetables we were going to plant or what concert we were going to, than quantum physics or magnetic fields.}

Esoteric ramblings, name dropping of authors and big words don't impress people.
Longer profiles typically attract higher IQ women.
Use your intelligence to create an appealing profile, write appropriate messages and work the site using its features.

@ Electric:

I've no doubt there are smart people on here. I just doubt there is sufficient quantity of them.

PoF isn't known for attracting a pool of successful, high-IQed, accomplished individuals. I think OP has a much better chance on paid sites.

Paid sites are just the same people here who post profiles then never pay their subscription.

Solution: Don't date the cheapos who never pay for their subscription and who maintain a dilapidated presence here.

It isn't about being too cheap to pay for it. The major sites want you to fail so you renew your subscription time and time again. The only luck I've had with e--harmony was to sneak my facebook info into my profile and send icebreakers to all my matches so they all saw it.

I don't think your profile is too intellectual - but it's written too much like a newspaper article - about yourself - it comes across to me as you loving yourself far too much...

you need more of this:
''After graduation I launched my own digital arts and culture magazine and appointed myself Editor-In-Chief.
After I saw my first byline I was hooked and I would never do anything else''
(talking normally)

and less of this poncy stuff:
''A bustling newsroom. The wars, poverty and famine both here and abroad are coming in over the wire. I have exactly 20 minutes until deadline and I'm racing against the clock to file. My tie is loose around my neck and my jacket and trousers are wrinkled from interviewing people all day.''
