Religion, what do u believe?
Posted: 7/31/2005 3:56:56 PM
Seeing as there are TOO many posts for me to keep up with. I thought I'd start my
own. lol

Now, religion has been a long debated & heated topic almost from the beginning
of time. I am a firm believer, we all have a right to beleive in what we choose
to believe in. As long as it's not a religion based on hate and the harming of others
and or animals. Hence, I don't really care for satanists. Dated one once, BAD idea!
lol

Do god and the devil exist? Well, to believe in one is to believe in the other. I
prefer to believe in the nature of good and evil. As it exists within all of us. I
say my prayers though, for the many ppl I care for and the occasional selfish
want. I'd like to believe in god, and I am not saying he doesn't exist. As a matter
of fact I would lean more towards the fact he does. But I won't assume to know
what god is. And I think tis arroggence for an individual or a religion to preach so.
Perhaps we all have a piece of the puzzle. I know all I can do is be the best person
I can be. And do unto others as they would do unto me. And let the cards fall
where they may. I heard this saying once, which I really like..."even if u don't
believe in god, he belives in u". And I will say this, I will love my children no matter
what they believe in. And as far as the bible is concerned, tis a book like any other.
We don't know if what is written inside is truth or heresay. Some goos stuff inside,
but still...so what do u think?

Nonsense, A all powerful Gawd of Love precludes a devil, a devil is an illusion iffin Gawd is real. Two things cant occupy the same space at the same time.

Four of the major world religions believe in God (Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism, Islam).

Only two of those believe in the devil (Christianity, Catholicism)

C&C actually have their own pantheon. Christianity has God, Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Devil. Sure, they may say that the first three are one and the same whereas the last one isn't worshipped - but the fact is that it's still several divine beings. Catholicism also has a few dozen arch-angels that are prayed to for various reasons (they even have one for finding lost objects...).

Since God said that He was One God and the second commandment was 'Though shalt not commit idolatry' - meaning worship an image of ANYTHING in the heavens or on earth - including a representation of The Single Lord of Everything - AND, since Christianity and Catholicism both have that all-famous idol of Christ hanging on the cross - I choose to NOT follow either of those blasphemous paths.

Judaism and Islam believe in One God. They don't believe in a devil. Neither break the first or second commandments. They are both extremely similar religions in fact.
The fundamental difference between the two religions (setting aside cultural differences) is that Muslims follow the teachings of the later prophets (including, but not limited to, Muhammad) whereas the Jews do not. The reasoning given by the Jewish people for not having faith in Muhammad is that Muhammad WASN'T JEWISH. And, by the muslim's own teachings, "a prophet is one that has a message for One People". Muhammad was Arab, meaning his message was for Arabs - not Jews, not Europeans, not Africans... Arabs.

I fully accept that Muhammad was a prophet, but since I am Jewish he isn't MY prophet. But as far as religions go, Islam is a pretty damn good one - and if I weren't Jewish I would definitely consider hopping on board. Christianity and Catholicism, however, have much to be desired.

Anyways, yeah... I'm a Jew.

Nay, I'm afraid it is you who is mistaken. Catholicism was around long before Christ came and when he did and the Catholics saw the christian rise in popularity - they simply added Christ to their pantheon. I can't prove this fact, of course, as it has been buried in history... but it has long been believed not only by me but other theological historians.

Even if that wasn't the case, the two religions are so vastly different that saying they are the same is like saying Canada and the United States are the same.

The muslims believe in devils, yes... plural. In Judaism there are also Angels and Devils, or Sephiroth and Qliphoth - but that's very different from the concept of The Devil.

Catholisism was NOT around before Christ! It was one of the original Christian faiths.

As for what 'I' believe.

Nine Elements:

"I was made from the ninefold elements - From fruit trees, From paradisiacal fruit,
From primroses and hill flowers From the blossoms of trees and bushes,
From the roots of the earth was I made, From the broom and the nettle,
From the water of the ninth wave. Math enchanted me before I was made immortal,
Gwydion created me with his magic wand. From Emrys and Euryon, From Mabon and Modron,
From five fifties of magicians like Math was I made -
Made by the master in his highest ecstasy -
By the wisest druids was I made before the world began,
And I know the star-knowledge from the beginning of Time."

-Taliesin, Chief Bard of the Britons (circa 600 CE)
as found in the Cad Goddeu and translated by Caitlin Matthews

I am the Wind on the Sea, I am the Ocean-wave, I am the Roar of the Sea, I am Bull of Seven Fights,
I am the Vulture on the Cliff, I am the Dewdrop, I am the Fairest of Flowers,
I am the Boar for Boldness, I am the Salmon in the Pool, I am the Lake on the Plain...
I am the Word of Skill, I am the Point of a Weapon that poureth forth combats,
I am the God who fashioned Fire for a Head. Who smootheth the ruggedness of a mountain?
Who is He who announceth the ages of the Moon?
And who, the place where falleth the sunset?
Who calleth the cattle from the House of Tethra?
On whom do the cattle of Tethra smile?
Who is the troop, who the god who fashioneth edges...?
Enchantments about a spear? Enchantments of Wind?"

Amergin was able to "become" one with his Cosmos and by this act of "becoming" he was able to summon the Power of Making as well. It is clear that we must ourselves understand the relationships of the body and the Cosmos before we attempt acts of Celtic Magick such as Ogham Divination. We must identify with each of the elements of ourselves and our surrounding world.

The Bible is the Base of all religions. The Bible and it's understanding is what one should seek to come to understand. Come to know what is the will of God then go out and seek your religion. You'll be amazed!!

I was raised as a Christian, but no matter how hard I have tried over my lifetime, I just cannot totally believe there is one supreme being somewhere above watching over us all. If there is this one true God, why does he ignore so much of the suffering in the world? I have been given many different answers to this over the years. but the one that intrigues me the most is that God has given us free will over our lives. But....if we exercise this free will, and choose not to obey the rules that were given to Moses, and Mohammed, and taught by Christ, we are to suffer here on earth and be doomed to eternal damnation. That does not sound much like a benevolent creator to me.

Even if I concede to the presumption that the Holy Bible, the Torah, the Koran, etc... are God inspired writings, the interpretations and the establishment of religion based on these writings has been made by man. Of course, each denomination will state that their religion is God inspired. Thus, creating the age old question; What is the one "true" religion? Could it be every faith has a piece to this puzzle? Or, is it the fear of our own mortality along with the need to belong, blind us still from asking the right questions? Is there a conflict between free will and blind faith? I know all I am doing is asking questions, but even at the age of fourty-seven, I still have an abundance of them.

I will not ridicule anyone for whatever their religious beliefs are, but it angers me when I hear of someone belittled for not choosing to believe. I cannot say if I am an Agnostic, a Pagan, or just a confused Christian. I do know that there is Good and Evil in this world. I have been awed by the miracle of birth, and have stared evil right in the eye!

I also do know there is a spark or a soul inside of us. I feel this, and have seen it in others. Do we inherit this through evolution? Or is this a gift from God? Seeing that we are composed from much of the same matter as found through the universe, maybe we should be looking to the stars for some of the answers.

Great pst Norm! I believe in a variety of things. I don't totally believe in the bible; I think it is misinterpreted, and I too question this jealous angry God that is portrayed within its pages. I look to my heart, commune with the holy spirit, and take it from there. God is within us, and I believe it doesn't matter what faith you are, as long as you are good to others and love your creator.

Frivolimous! Some interesting things about other religions...thanks for
sharing! For some reason u remind me of Daniel Jackson from SG-1. lol
* Hopes he's not the ONLY scifi dork here...* Someone calls me a "trekkie"
I'm cracking skulls! lol

But on a more serious note.....all this crap of priests molesting kids and what
not sickens me. Perfect example of how a person can claim to be religious,
yet mocks it at the same time. I've met many ppl who have used religion
as a means to prove their superioity over others. While not all are like this,
there are quite a few out there! I am sure others from various religions aside
from christians act like this. But I haven't known anything but christians, atheists,
and one satanist. I don't think anyone has a right to sit down on judgement
on others.

And btw Frivolimous, tis nice to meet u! I don't know many jews! lol

13;

If I may add another prerequisite to the love of one's creator. One must love themselves. (I am not talking vanity) It is so easy for some religions, or cults, to prey on lonely, misguided souls who have no respect or love for themselves. I would tend to think of it this way;

1) Love God.
2) Love yourself.
3) Love you family and mankind.
4) Do no harm.

I firmly believe that love is the greatest gift that God/Creator/Whatever has given us. It transcends all boundries and ties us to nature and the universe.

Just my humble opinion;

I'd love to read some of these historians' work.

"Even if that wasn't the case, the two religions are so vastly different that saying they are the same is like saying Canada and the United States are the same."

They are not two religions. It may be different from certain brands of protestantism but it is the protestants who are deviants. Christianity encompasses everybody who believes in Jesus Christ as messiah. That includes Catholics.

Catholicism is a religuous denomination of Christianity and the Protestant(meaning in protest) denomination was formed was in protest if the idolitry of the catholic church's use of images, praying to saints, confessing to men, (worshipping) example the catholic church display Jesus on the cross( the crucifix), but He isnt on the cross, death could not hold Him. Christ rose from the dead, His cross he bore for our our sins ( all of us) and payed the price. The cross without a body is a testimony to His resurection. The Father, God almighty........Born of the seed of God....God on earth...Jesus of Nazareth, who was without sin....who died for our sins so that we could be washed clean..forgiven, acceptable unto the Lord. He rose from the dead on the third day...the resurection carrying with him the Holy Spirit...a gift, a blessing for us to have within usif we choose it... the spirit of the Living God is alive in us as prophesized in scripture and fullfilled at the pentocost and today. Praise God

Im a Christian who follows the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ....noconfusion there.........not a denomination... The Church dwells within us who choose it, we are the body of Christ. We who seek shall find and shall be filled... amen and amen

God Bless

raven: take a look at The Two Babylons by Alexander Hislop.

Christians believe in more than one devil too...

the mark of distinction is that Christians have a supreme figure representing the forces of evil (being The Devil), whereas Judaism and Islam do not. Christians believe that this entity of darkness is omnipotent, at least on par power-wise with any polytheistic god. Not as powerful as God, but from some of what I hear it sounds like The Devil can at least rival God. Neither Judaism nor Islam have such a diabolical being. There is One God. He rules everything. The good, the bad and everything in between. The struggle between good and evil is beneath Him such that He rules both and both answer to Him - because He is the highest, most supreme force in the universe.

For some reason u remind me of Daniel Jackson from SG-1.

lol, I must say that's the first time anyone has made that connection. He's a cool character though so it's all good. And nice to meet you as well :)

Who knows a kingdom better than the ruler of the kingdom? Who has more power than the highest power? If you could speak directly to the highest power, why would you want to go through an intermediary?

God is the highest power. Christ is an intermediary. The Devil is an intermediary. If you work with God then the intermediaries are moot. Certainly the stomach knows when it's time to eat and if you listen to your stomach then you will always be fed. But your brain knows as well - and your brain knows better than your stomach. Your stomach only knows that it is hungry and wants to eat anything. Your brain knows what nutritious food is and that candy will not satisfy your stomach for long - and so can choose what will satisfy. Just like God knows better than The Devil and knows better than Christ.

I don't know what I believe. The jury is still out on that one. But I know that I am on a quest for the truth, where ever that may take me and whatever that may be.

I do believe that the first five chapters (the Torah) in the original hebrew text was written by someone not of this earth. With the code found within those chapters it has been proven that no human could have ever wrote it. Yes, I said proven. Since it has passed numorus scientific review boards and written about in numorus scientific reviews, I would say that it has been proven. It isn't so much about the words written but about the code within the words. Mind boggling stuff.

What or who wrote it? I have not a clue. Someone who posessed far more knowledge than any human. To create a code that could only be broken with the use of computers thousands of years ago is a pretty tall order. But if someone was going to write a code that they wanted to last thousands of years until the time comes for someone to break it, where would they put it? It would have to be somewhere that wouldn't get thrown away or forgotten about. The Bible certainly does seem like the logical place.

If you think about it, God really would be an "Alian". Meaning something not of this planet. Could it be he is just some alian from some other planet? Sure, why not. When Moses was given the ten comandments it certainly sounds like he had a close encounter. Could we be just some sort of social experiment? Sure, why not.

I don't think anyone or any religion has gotten it right yet. I think that there may be some truths but I believe that the general idea of organized religions has lost the meaning of what it all meant.

I do find some things about religions kinda funny though. I have had a number of conversations over the years with priests, pastors, reverands, etc. One thing I thought was very odd is that what they are willing to admit behind closed doors is not the same things they preach to the congregation. I highly reccomend a good debate with a knowledgeable church leader. It can be quite enlightening. If you all think you can bring up questions about the Bible you need to see what these dudes come up with.

Another thing I notice all the time, especially on the net. Is that it seems that most people on the net do not believe in a "God". Not that this bothers me, as I am not sure I do in that deffination. But being that the world as a whole has a population of about 95% that believes in a higher power and it's somewhere around 90% for the USA, is the 5%-10% the only ones that use the net? Or is it just the sqeaky wheel syndrome? I mean, there sure seems to be tons of people that bash religions and want you to believe that they are right but yet the vast majority of people believe in some sort of god. Hmmm, just weird, thats all.

If you all want to read something that is truely thought provoking and very informative, read Holy Blood, Holy Grail. It will really twist up your grey matter.

I'd like to believe in the Biblical God, it would tie things up nice and neat, but I have a deep down gut feeling that isn't good about it. The Biblical God has either been terribly taken out of context or He is more closely related to Satan than most could imagine, certainly His violence shows Him in this light.

skypoetone- I could believe your right about God being taken out of context. I think if Jesus was real at one point, he most certainly was taken out of context. A guy put here to free the minds of the masses only to have them create some religions based on his words but made to keep minds closed.

I belive in a vast aray of things, but mostly in a pervasiv energy force, or Qi if you prefer. I dont belive in god, but I do belive in gardian spirits and in avatars and personafications of various forces.

Good and Evil have no meaning to me, only as concepts nothing more. It is up to the indavidual to decide for themself what is wrong and what is right. But I also belive in the threefold rule of Karma, what goes around comes around, so your better to do nice things cause then nice will be more likely to happen to you.

And finaly I belive.... Its past my bedtime. The sun is about to rise in sunny scotland and I havent even hit the hay yet!

No ofence taken and no I do not belive it Just so I can change my standards. I do change my standards however, you are right in that, but its not the reson I belive it. That is far to complex to go into detail about why I belive.
I do belive that people change there standards all the time and there is nothing wrong with it. I behave in a certian way when around my parents, but very difrently when around my friends. The resons for this are numerous and varied, but mostly because my relationship with my parents is difrent to any other relationship I have and so the ethical standards I set myelf are conformed to make that relationship as easy as posible for us all.
I hope this answers your question.
