for flirtations and possible hook-ups in the future due to the
amount of the flirtations...in other words it fits in well with
this being a dating site...

Join in on a discussion thread, just be sure to contribute to the topic as opposed to chatting.

a good idea only some of us have made friends with people too far away to attend get togethers and most pofers in my area dont use the forums and wouldn't know about local events.

I agree but it seems many people are leary to use it until they get a sense of who you are by how you react to other POF. Happened this week actually and may become my 1st date from here she said I seemed like a nice guy judging by how I posted and what others seemed to think of me. I realize many people want serious discussions but I think a forum titled word games would tell people this may not be your ideal forum. Just an opinion not a protest.

The POF fora have always been for discussion, not chat.
Primarily what sets a Forum aside from a Chatroom, is that Forums have Topics, or Subjects to be discussed.
'On-Topic' Posting means a response to the Subject of a Thread.
'Chatting' is a Form of 'Off-Topic' posting whereby a Message Post does not address the Topic of the Thread, but is usually is a back & forth Response directed at another Poster(s)
Chat is of no intrinsic value to discussion. It is in fact, an empty replacement for it, and constitutes a net loss, in regards to "discussion".
There is nothing wrong with exchanging niceties, ...... for that? There is POF mail or IM.
"Small-talk" doesn't need an audience, just a recipient, ...... need to chat?
POF mail, POF IM ........ leave the discussion fora to it's purpose, use the two means provided for by POF that are PERFECT for, ......."How de' do". | |

No other global forum even comes close.
You will find many POFers that used ''Word Games'' will not use ''Sex & Dating'' because of this and the inuendo they will receive.
If users don't want to go to that forum, there are 21 other global fora to discuss other topics, plus for those in Canada and the U.S., ...local fora. For "small-talk", "chat", etc. there is POF mail and IM.
If POF itself moderated profiles
700,000+ users make this impossible to catch them all, this is why there is a link at the bottom of each profile to report profile abuses.
The total deletion of a forum seems more than excessive to say the least.
If it had not been used as a chat room by so many, it wouldn't have been necessary. | |

The subject matter for that forum is sex, for those that don't want to discuss sex, ....don't use that forum.

It's a different group of people and everyone seems to enjoy one another. Some moderators have been in that forum and have participated in the threads and no harm was done. I don't understand why we would be taking away this valuable service from all those involved in that thread who use it as a way to meet people!
I really think that this is a huge mistake. Email me and give me your opinion. I'd much rather air out my greivances in a personal email than in a forum where everyone can see. | |

Posted: 8/1/2005 6:46:35 AM | I can understand that the word games was possibly eating up space on the server, especially since there were many one and two word responses... and i understand that this is a dating site and that the idea IS actually to meet people.. something I have done SEVERAL times.
I met Crossfade here (still my heart and soul), I have had drinks with Pickles and Longte, Angel, Excalibur, I just spent the past weekend with HAC, 2much2handle, Woodrow9876 ALL people that have posted in word games (and most of whom I met in that forum).
I post in a lot of other places as well, and will continue to do so. But I agree that friendships were formed there, and I DID physically meet a lot of ppl because of that forum. | |

OT: I'll miss words, I've met some cool people there. The other post just keep turning into sex talk, threads like the ones Ivanna made were a hoot.

Let alone chat to some of them on MSN or yahoo. The word games forums was a way also for me to find some humor in a long day at work as was it for others. In all honesty I doubt I will visit the site that much, because in other threads you could only post some much and then thats it. Like in Sports some of the topics you can only post once or twice. which will end up making threads shorter and boring. But thats just my opinion. You guys are the moderators and what not but you could have at least warned people you were closing that forum. Maybe you did I do know. Personally I think you guys made a mistake but what do I know.
