Scammers on POFPage 1 of 2    (1, 2)
I had to learn the hard way but someone I called from POF today gave me a fake number turned out to be a premuim rate number the accounts been deleted but the call cost me £16.

I looked for a way to contact admin but couldn't find an email address.

Many thanks

Shawn Smith.

What a rotten trick.

I think you should just put it down to experience and move on
from the ordeal and hope for better luck next time (and perhaps
text first)

Kind regards

Indeed and i know that they can block IP addresses but its a shame they don't when they need to.
A Freddie Krueger lookalike has/had 9 accounts so far in order to hassle yours truly but do they do anything when he's reported?
No,they do b*gger all

Blocking Ip addresses is a waste of time, somebody only has to reboot their router/hub and the ip address will change.

Best way to avoid scams, is on both your mobile and landline, you can block all calls to premium numbers, so if its a con, your mobile or home phone will not connect to the number.

Checkout whoever your operator is for details, with some you can do this easily on their website.

It's true the IP changes everytime you connect to the internet. But POF do have software to block your MAC address which stays the same. That's why when you're banned your banned. You should report the user and leave it to them. I had the same thing were a phone number was messaged far to soon. I Googled it and it came up as a SCAM number straight away.

I am really sorry to hear about these scammers.
Googling the number is a great idea.
I think report it, if it goes nowhere it goes nowhere but if they DO kick them off somehow it would save others going through this maybe.

You can't realistically block addresses, loads of scammers use internet cafes or sites with big servers, it's just not possible.
POF is only a 'dumb' intermediary, it's up to the user to be very aware that this sort of crap is around in large amounts. Hopefully now that IE is part of the paid-for cloud cuckoo land out there, a lot of this may well vaporise...

Tell them to call you - if they are interested they will and if they don't then it is probably a scam. I have been chatting to a guy for a few days and we chatted on the phone last night and are planning a meet over the school holidays.... he gave me his number, so I texted him and he called me. They wouldn't call you if it was a scam!

It's amazing how some folks can still falling by these scams nowadays, men and women never, ever call phone numbers as the intials:070,090,100,080,as they might be all premium rates that will take away your money.

Guys please,if a woman gives you her number, pay attention with the initials,or google it to make sure that is an avearage number or you gonna ended up getting ripped off again, and guys if a woman gives you her phone number"too easy" men run and run,it's more likely to be one more scam, good luck!!

Back to the 80's!
