What is it with some people not listing their profession? Is it such a big deal? C'mon... you don't have to say *where* you work, but some general idea, please?

I was thinking about this today... some guys put in their profile really specific things about what they're looking for (mostly in regards to body type) (Ok, I'm sure us women do it to!). And, they have a right to be picky...they know that they are primarily attracted to a certain type of body type. Now, what if I were to specify in my profile what type of job a man should or shouldn't have in order to message me?!

In my experience here, most of the people who haven't listed their career do so for one of two reasons:

1) They are ashamed b/c their job is pathetic.

2) They don't want someone dating them just because they are a ________ (fill in the blank... pilot, doctor etc)

Except firemen. They're always quick to let you know *e*x*a*c*t*l*y* what they do!! LOL

Thoughts?

I have had several people tell me my profession is so wierd, they suggested, I omit it from my profile, if I ever expect to receive responses. I personally think I am in an honorable profession, and I am not only a master of my craft, I thank, God, for the opportunity to serve my fellow mankind, in the manner I serve.

Karlyn; Your profile says, "I have a richly rewarding career" .... isn't this thread kind of like the pot calling the kettle black?

I don't list my profession because I don't want to get email strictly about that anymore.

I'll discuss it with the people I'm interested in meeting.

It makes no difference in regards to my opinions in the forums.

Why do you need to know what I do for a living? Yeah, some people have careers they pursue and other people just plain work. I wouldn't call my job much of a profession but it pays well enough. Too easy to have somebody decide that that just isn't good enough for them. Sure, it's their perogative but since it says absolutely nothing about me, what good is it from my point of view to list it ?

I actually think that stating your profession in your profile is a pretty good idea.To me, it could be some sort of ice breaker when I go to start a conversation with someone.Although I would never be negative towards someone who chooses not to state there profession, its purely there choice.

I think that listing your profession is a great way of letting ppl stereotype you. Not everyone does what they want to do, so they're job likely doesn't fit their personality. Others may have jobs that have some nasty stigma associated with them (like computer engineers are all socially inept geeks who are married to their careers). Others are on a path to better things. And personally, starting a conversation with "So what do you do?..." just gets so boring. I love my job, and I am doing exactly what I want to do, but I'm not here to meet a business partner. I'm here to socialize, and when I socialize I would rather not think about work.
And finally, if you're the type that attaches any sort of importance to a person's title, you can move on to the next profile. You may as well ask me to show you my pay stub!

Too true, it might initially take some people back a bit, but what you do is comfort families. I know how much our family appreciated those services and the comfort in the way we were treated (even acting as a 'doorman' when my siblings and I were continually being interupted by annoying yet well meaning family members during our last time 'alone' with our mother).

Still, I have to wonder something.....in your pic, the white sheet in the background...please tell me that isn't a body cause it looks like it's covering something. (one of the only professions who could justify it, though, hahahaha)

All in fun....

^ Good answer.

Many people don't understand what business development (Busdev) is. It is sales and marketing... advertising..and service...business aquisition or well..development.

taken from

A) the preparation and market research/territory mapping and planning/prospecting of the first call(s) to a very in depth business relationship.

OR

B) Simply taking current accounts to the next stages of a business relationship. (doing more for the company or, simply, doing what we do BETTER for both clients and "us".

I usually focus on a specific portion of the above at any given time, depending on the point in a sales program my company is and/or the needs of the firm or clientelle.

However..I can manage the whole bloody chain when..and if needed.

*shrugs*

I prefer to manage or focus on the part(s) which gives me the most cash or benefit. (you'd think..hu?) This means sometimes getting involved in the administration or finer details.

I PREFER to just do the sales, business aquisition/market development and key account service and sales stuff..as that pays me the most and allows me to work, generally, on the fly, as opposed to HAVING to be a specific place or be DOING a specific thing. I like variety. (though scheduling and routine is also encompassed in what I do....but of course)

At work..I LIKE, as Gordon Downey says, doing the rolling while others do the details.

*shrugs*

I usually end up knowing most of the details or being the deciding factor in many details anyways...i.e. price points.margins..delivery details, paperowrk administration etc etc since I use, and am affected by, the end products of most of this the most of all employees anyways.

..but really..other people need jobs to do and I like having or being on a team...so..

Besides; knowing TOO much, more so, HAVING to know too much is just a big headache anyways to tell the truth. (If they pay me MAJOR dollars..well...the headache goes away...but still)

Right now I am unemployed and shopping terrific jobs (those that suit who I am/, my needs and wants in life), as opposed to just any job. I am switching sizzle and a great bachelor career for something more stable and family ready...I"m 31..it must be bloody time.

I am also being shopped, negotiated with and SLOWED OR STOPPED from just TAKING any job by many Executive Recruiters and Employers who ALSO wish to get the most out of what I do and my background etc etc. (That means we're on the same page..cool)

*shrugs*

I figure we're all doing pretty well.

And my U.I isn't so terrible either, though, it is far less than I am used to when I work..that's for sure.

I payed into it for a long long time...I do not feel bad getting some of this money bhack..for me. (Im a good CDN boy..I guess I deserve it as much as anyone)

(Really miss racing the car though..but hey)

P.S> Firefighters ARE proud of their jobs now ARNT they dude!! (rightly SO as well!!)

Those boys do good things....for sure.

what about us people that no longer have careers because lady luck blessed us with good fortune...

I like when people make me laugh in this section actually. You can get the point across without going to specifics..which I really would not expect of anyone.

I'll tell you why as you ask - it's cause the min I say, emails stop.

Honestly, you'd think it was something sick or sad that I do. For some reason what you do matters in dating. Yes it's a profession and not a job but hay.

I dont list it as I don't believe it's important at that time but i'm happy to tell if asked.

Ok, point taken. Yes, I don't list my exact career, but make mention to it. I do this to protect myself, as it would be very easy for someone to figure out my place of employment and harrass me if they wanted to. As a single mom, I have to protect myself and my kids. But, I do mention that I have a rewarding career (notice I didn't say 'job'). I love what I do, and, seriously, would do it for free if I didn't have bills to pay.

I am looking for a certain type of guy. I don't want to be around someone who's constantly complaining that they hate their 'job', but don't do anything to change that (I was married to someone like that for way too long... all he ever did was complain about how he hated his job, but wouldn't get off his fat a$$ and find something better or increase his amount of education so that he could get a better job).

I've had some guys get offended when I ask them what they do for a living, or lie, or skirt the issue. Makes me really suspicious!!

profession/job is something that can be deferred to a later discussion!.....on the net, a person can lie about what they do whether its listed or not, BUT the fact that some pple don't say doesn't mean they are tryin' to hide something!

if you are 2 forthcoming then you run the risk of drawing the gold-diggers!

I omit my profession because I don't want people to know I am a co-owner of a grocery store. As many already stated, you can ask the person what he or she do for a living... and if they are offended, they probably have something to hide... I don't mind people message me and ask "so, what do you do for a living or are you still in school?" I don't see anything offensive about that

I'm a mouse catcher. The pay isn't that good but I get to eat the mice I catch, and it's good exercise.

Personally I less concerned with what someone does for a living than how happy they are doing it.
