Although, I may have been doing it too often, as it's not as easy for me to cum or get horny as it was when I first started trying to please myself. This also may be due to some medication that I take.

If you're bleeding or chafed in genital areas this is a bad thing. Guys especially can inflict open wounds on themselves that get infected...although this rarely happens because they usually masturbate in the shower with soap...but still; after one gets OUT of the shower it's a window of opportunity for serious infections to set in.
Another thing is if someone gets a rotator cuff injury or a sprained wrist from doing it. :-| This can be way serious. Take a couple days off.
A good think about lubes: KY jelly.
This is a great lube for masturbation as it (unlike vaseline) is water soluble. Agents which are not water soluble are tough to wash off and can be a hiding place for microorganisms which cause infection.
If you don't use it for that: This stuff was used by Gaylord Perry to throw a pitch called "the spitter". Umpires would never catch him because it's water soluble and all it takes to dissolve it is a drop of spit and *poof* it's gone.

My case:
