| How many actually read profiles versus just pics???
Posted: 8/10/2005 9:35:56 PM | I'm just curious about how many people actually read entire profiles or just scan pics. My personal opinion has always been that the pic is the hook and the profile is the gravy on top. However, I still find myself spending some effort in making sure my written words are okay, but am I wasting my time?
Honestly, if I check out a profile and I'm not at all attracted to the person in the pics then I'm not going to read the profile text beyond the basic info. Call me shallow but I'm just being honest. I'd imagine I'm not the only one though.
So, how important are the written descriptions in online profiles to everyone? | |

Posted: 8/10/2005 10:08:41 PM | When I was looking, I would scan the pics first - if I liked what I saw, I would then read the whole of the profile. If I liked what I read, I would go from there. I don't think it's shallow. If I could already see from a photo that I was in no way attracted to a guy and/or that our styles were not compatible, why would I go ahead and spend the time to study his profile further? That would be the equivalant of going up to a guy you are totally not attracted to in a bar and saying, " hey, tell me about yourself" when you know darn well there is no physical chemistry.
The written description is just as important as a second step. You could think a guy super hot etc...but if the written part sucks (spelling etc...) or opposite interests etc...it isn't going to work. But, if you like the looks and the written part - its golden. | |

YOu have to read between the lines on some-the real brief ones appear extremely shy for some reason. The long and descriptive ones I have to read real slow so I can absorb the message being conveyed. Yes-I read them and then some. the pic is a glance into the style of the persona, the words in black and white to me are their character. | |

To me they are very important, on both sides. I look for proper grammar content as well but that's just me. I see profiles with nice pictures and little else and see that as someone putting all their eggs all in one basket. Having a picture posted in no way determines weather or not I read someones profile. I'm well aware of the need for a physical attraction, I just don't look for that to be the 'first' attraction needed.
I get a bit frustrated as well when asked questions that are answered in my profile. Like did you bother to read what I wrote? | |

Posted: 8/11/2005 11:08:05 PM | Yes, while the first initial hook is indeed a pic, what inspires me to CONTACT a person would be what they have to say about themselves. It's ok to be shallow I guess, but that only gets you so far.

Posted: 8/14/2005 8:02:06 PM | I think it's the pic that catches my eye but if I read the profile and there is nothing to it I won't send them a message....I like guys who make me laugh...show me their sense of humour. I also don't like it when people talk about themselves like they are the best thing on the earth. I like a guy that I find personally attractive who is down to earth and not too full of themselves. Some guys think they are so awesome I find it hard to believe they have any time to love someone else more than themselves. I know some women like that too....Anyways...I am straying off topic....YES I read every word a guy posts!!! | |
