| How many people like Stand up Comedy? Posted: 8/11/2005 9:36:02 AM | Ok, there is a thread about favourite comedians. The majority of the people that have posted, listed other types of comics as their fav's. Their are comedic actors, then there are stand ups. Also, there are both. Example Chris Rock...who should stick to stand up.
Anyway, wjo likes stand up? Who goes to see it live? Who watches on tv? Just curious.

He was always a blue comic, then one day he landed and acting gig. Who knew that he would become Danny Tanner. If he's ever in your town, check him out.

dennis miller is the best stand up comedian ever. anybody who doesnt agree is not smart enough to understand his jokes. this is called the dennis miller effect.

Dennis Miller arguably might have been the funniest anchor on SNL(actually that's Norm MacDonald). But I don't think he's the funniest ever.

He is great but to make that comment is silly. I get him, like him. To say that people who don't agree are not smart enough to understand is kinda, well, it's actually ignorant.
There are so many different styles of stand up. Miller is exellent at the ranting style. If you copmpare him to others of the same style, he is one of the best. Along with Bill Hicks and Lewis Black has to be up there as well, he could be right there. But what is somebody prefers a story telling comic...e.g.Bill Cosby, or an Observational comic...Mitch Hedberg. over somebody that has a ranting style. That doesn't mean they are any lesser of intelligence than a DM fan.
Stand Up is an artform and like most artwork, It's very subjective. Can you really compare Renoir to Dali. Both amazing yet totally different.
cool, thanks for playing.

| How many people like Stand up Comedy? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:09:22 AM | I agree that Dennis Miller is really funny but to say he is the best is just wrong, it's all a matter of taste and opinion.
Personally I think Bill Hicks was one of the best. Another one of my favorites was Sam Kinison.
I like Chris Rock alot, and as someone mentioned earlier Bob Saget is pretty damn funny.
Adam Ferrara (sp) is friggin funny, along with Dom (cant remember his last name).
One of my favorites right now is Dane Cook. If you havent seen this guy your really missing a great one.
There's just too many to list. But stand up is my favorite kind of enertainment.

| How many people like Stand up Comedy? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:26:17 AM | Ya Dane Cook is pretty cool. I met him at Just For Laughs a few years ago. Entertaining to watch. He's like Jim Carry meets Will Ferrel on speed.
Dom Irrera is the dude you're talking about. Very funny, he's one of the guys that made me want to start performing.
cool. | |

| How many people like Stand up Comedy? Posted: 10/16/2006 7:18:21 PM | I love just about all comedy. I like Lewis Black, Dennis Leary, Dane Cook, Adam Ferrera, Dom Irrera, Pablo Fransisco(I think that's his last name, I'm not sure though), Maria...I can't remeber her last name either, but she would do all these different voices, and who could forget Gallager? | |

Dave Attel - hehehe Bill Hicks - smoking never made so much sense

| How many people like Stand up Comedy? Posted: 4/30/2007 8:55:13 PM | | Please read my post "can you romance a clown". I not only love it - I love doing it. Our society today is forgetting how much they truly love simple comedy. Today they believe that the more you smear others, the funnier it is....So Wrong!!! I write my own stuff and perform at familyevents or work parties. (clean stuff). I have a "Really Fat Bird" routine that makes my audience laugh until they cry. Stand up is wonderful if it is strong enough to be be clean, positive, simple , and still enables us to laugh at reality. That kind of standup takes a lot of work and talent to entertain the audience, but they remember you. Too many comedians deal in trash and they're too easy to forget. Several years ago, I managed a comedy troupe called "Suitcase Antics" in the Birmingham area......that was some real fun!! | |

| How many people like Stand up Comedy? Posted: 4/30/2007 9:13:38 PM | | I've not had much chance to watch a huge amount of stand up comedians. But from what I've seen (don't know names sadly) it can be rather funny. Stephen Lynch isn't necessarily a stand up comedian, at least not that I know of, but he is hilarious. | |
