| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 12:25:37 PM | So there I was, at the hockey arena, watching all 240 kids skating around and running into one another, when I realized that I was surrounded by women.....talking to other women....and men....talking to other men....
I observed that the women were talking about: Kids, Houses, (a tiny bit about jobs), their Husbands, Kids, Husbands, Houses, Gardens, Vacations, Kids, in about that order.
The men on the other hand, were talking about: Work, hockey, kids, Work, Work, Business, The economy, the price of gas, Vehicles, Work, Vehicles, Money.
As I sat there bouncing back and forth between the conversations, my thoughts were (besides the fact that I was an eavesdropper with too much time on her hands), there is SUCH a huge difference, not only in the way that men and women communicate with each other, but in the ways they communicate with people of the same sex.......Very interesting..

Hahah Once I was on the bus sitting infront of an old couple, and the woman was rabbiting on about everything and anything! Lol and the guy was just saying Uh-huh over and over-you could tell from his tone he was sort of bored and irritated, lol, but the woman didn't seem to notice!

Yeah we talk about stuff a little bit away from home , I guess I am like achick I talk about the same stuff except I add alot of car engine stuff and extreme sports stuff . I had no kids but talked about the neices and nephews that live with me , ... they moved away though after my wife went away , so back to more guy stuff, cars sports , work , house , garden , vacations .

I mean seriously, my "service vehicle soon" light is on too.....but I'm not sure that it would have made good conversational fodder for the woman next to me!!!!! lol!!

| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 12:40:59 PM | Funny as when I'm in groups like that I sit and talk to the woman as the conversations are more interesting and it's not the same old shit as the guys talk about. For some odd reason men talk about the same thing every time they get together where as the conversations with woman are always different and exciting. Guess this is why my friends are all woman except for 2 guys. | |

| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 12:49:57 PM | | Well, that could explain why most of my friends are male. My only female friend is a rather, er, masculine woman. She makes the toughest tomboy looks like a girly-girl by comparison. | |

| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 1:04:06 PM | I would bet 90% of my conversations with other men deal with sports, careers, handyman projects and the like. About 60 to 70% of my conversations with women deal with raising kids. Very few of my male friends ever ask about my son. Every female friend always asks about my son, though it doesn't always dominate the conversation. | |

| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 1:50:20 PM | Great observation Hottie----it's ALWAYS fascinating "people watching" ! Deboran Tannen, Phd, has written some intriguing books on the male/female conversational dynamic and I swear reading several through and all of a sudden a light goes on about our gender differences. Once "armed" with such info it makes observing others interacting one of the most enlightening things you'd ever do!

| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 2:27:13 PM | funny you would say that crayola... being a woman and all..
anyway, when I get around my friends, we mostly talk about music, politics, news and well, of course women.. but I find that most of the women I hang with talk about exactly the same things.. almost, except for the girly things like hair and such.
for the most part isn't that why we hang around people who are like minded? I don'ty really ahng around with people who decide to jump rope loaded with razor blades or people who like to parasail behind 1976 white vw bugs.....

| Conversational observations (men vs. women) Posted: 8/11/2005 4:21:12 PM | | Good point. I'd hate to think that most women are boring. To some extent as I've heard many "hens" as well, this is true for some. Maybe a cool personality makes a difference. Thanks for posting your comment. This is the first one I reply to. Hope to chat sometime. | |
