| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:12:57 AM | Jumping to Conclusions
Are you the kind of person who will take any situation, jump to a conclusion, and whatever that is—set it in stone? In the past I’ve tended to be abrupt when making decisions based on incomplete information or inablity to hear and believe the response given, which has probably cost me more than I know in life.
I’ve learned to curb that tendancy in the past few years and tame it down and talk it out honestly with whoever else is involved, or write out my feelings until they feel purged, but I was wondering if other’s had the same problem and if you had any insights into why we tend to do this—especially in matters of the heart. (Don’t assume something is wrong between Japhus and I, we’re doing better than fine.)

| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:25:19 AM | Admittedly, I'm one of the *worst* people for looking at a situation, or taking a comment, and believing that it "speaks volumes" (even if that's not what the person originally intended).
I could use some lessons on that.....
OT, remember that movie "Office Space" where that guy invented that mat, "Jump to conclusions?" lol! I LOVE that movie!!!

| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:43:09 AM | | So what your saying is I'm the one with the problem?!?!?! Geez, and you say I jump to conclusions! Whatever! | |
|
| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:48:50 AM | I think I jump to all possible conclusions knowing that there may be one or two that I have never contemplated...BUT..
I do not set these in stone.
(my conclusions are open to new infomration which will further "confirm" OR eliminate OR move my conclusion from a to b etc.)
I do make conclusions and decisions rather quickly though.
There comes a time, for self preservation or benefit when one must decide based on the avaialable information alone. (sucks..but that's the way it is sometimes)

| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 8:52:16 AM | | sadly I think it's one of the female traits. We can take a sentence and read all kinds of meanings into it if we are feeling in the least bit insecure. | |

| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 9:07:55 AM | Office Space! Yeah, that is the best movie! "Excuse me, I believe you have my stapler". LOL
Yep, I've been known to jump to conclusions at times. But I've learned not to "set them in stone" anymore. Perspectives can change in a split second.

We can take a sentence and read all kinds of meanings into it if we are feeling in the least bit insecure.
Perhaps you can ask for clarification then? I dunno....just a thought.

| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 11:58:16 AM | Yup. I does.
I must admit that I don't often trust others very well.
I live by the saying 'If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck....it's a duck'.
The thing about my 'hunches' is that I'm usually right. But when I'm wrong, I'm so damned wrong....

the trick is to make us feel secure and then maybe we won't be jumping to conclusions. And a duck is always a duck.
|
| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 12:44:43 PM | | Nope. Not as a rule. I'm sure I must but tend to check myself whenever somebody points out that I'm betraying even a whiff of it. Actually, I truly despise the types that have that "guilty until proven innocent" attitude. Everybody does this , myself included but some do it more than others. | |
|
| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 12:45:28 PM | | And how! Although I'm right about my conclusions about 90% of the time, it's usually the bigger, more serious stuff that make up that last 10%. Being as stubborn as I am, I'll usually keep on arguing until I dig myself into an even deeper hole. | |
|
| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/12/2005 12:56:24 PM | I try very hard to look at all the information that is available, then form an opinion. Is this concrete and set in stone? Of course not, new info can sway my opinion another way. For me, if the argument makes sense, and I don't see any other way of getting anything else logical out of it, I'll stick to what makes sense.
*looking all over for her stapler*

And a duck is always a duck.
JOhn Madden eat Turducken though ya know.
Anyways; I think I'll agree with you, though, I would probably eat a turducken too.
the trick is to make us feel secure
Screw it..you're in complete and constant danger....immininet threats are everywhere..
maybe that works best.
:( grrr | |

| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/31/2005 2:07:55 PM | | I dont like to jump to conclusions. I like to find out first than give that person the benefit of the doubt,,first,,than maybe jump. I learned not to jump so wuick. I dont like getting in trouble or embarrased & ashamed if I am wrong. | |
|
| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/31/2005 3:43:14 PM | Hey!!! Waht's wrong with jumping to conclusions?!?!?!?!
Sometimes that's the ONLY exercise that I get!!!!
But seriously....
|I used to have BIG problems with that, to the point that I would even try to hang on to my conclusion despite new info in front of me....
Thankfully I'm a lot less rigid today and if at all possible...I always make it a point to ASK someone what they meant by what they said, did, whatever, before forming a reaction...
Taking a big, deep breath when that anxiety hits from an imminent jump, has helped a lot...That and reminding myself not to make decisions based ONLY on my own perceptions and little to NO information!!! D.
|
| Conclusion Jumper -- Are you one? Posted: 8/31/2005 4:17:38 PM | Guilty as charged.
I've been accused of it many times, I know I do it, I try not to but at times I do. I tend to over analyse everything.
Doesn't help that I have a job that requires no thought what so ever thus leaving me 10 hours to do nothing but think about a situation and every possible outcome.
