| Lip Synching Punished in China Posted: 8/12/2005 7:54:08 PM | Looks like lip synching will be punished in China. Apparently any singer who lip synchs at a concert will be in serious trouble. I heard this on NPR today. I say it makes perfectly good sense. If a singer can't sing properly in a concert, they shouldn't be doing tours. (After all, we pay our hard-earned money for a concert, not for fake singing).
I wonder if the American audience agrees with this, or whether Americans are okay with anything at all.
Chinanews, July 28 - In recent years, the problems of "lip-synching" in China's concert circuit as well as leading cadres "using public money to pursue stars" will be dealt with by law beginning this September 1st with the newly revised "Commercialized performance regulations".
The rules specify that various levels of government and government departments cannot subsidize, sponsor or in any indirect way assist or sponsor commercial performances and may not use public funds to purchase any tickets to any commercial performances or shows for individuals. The rules show clearly the penalties on individuals and their work units for violating the ban on "using public money to pursue stars".
The new rules specify that any singer or organization caught "lip-synching" during live shows will have their performance licenses suspended and any illegal attempts to gain economic advantages under the guise of shows will be prosecuted according to the law. New rules point out any "lip-synching" to cheat the audience, to facilitate actors lip-synching will all be exposed. Any performing troupe and sponsor organization exposed twice for lip-synching in two years will have their performance license suspended. Individual performers caught lip-synching twice in two years will have their licenses suspended by the industrial and commercial bureau. | |

| Lip Synching Punished in China Posted: 8/4/2006 7:11:29 PM | | When I see a live show, it's not just a visual thing. I'm generally very familiar with the studio recordings, so I WANT to hear how their voice sounds with all the production work and in a live environment. Hearing that variation is what makes going to a concert worthwhile. But that's just me. You guys can stick to your MTV pop garbage. | |
