Santa Clause, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny?

When do they stop believing?

My 10 year old hasn't asked about "The Easter Bunny" in at least 2 years.......
The Tooth Fairy is still alive and well......but I sometimes wonder if perhaps he's motivated to believe....by that dollar or two underneath of his pillow when he wakes in the morning...

He asked about Santa last year, claiming that some of the kids in his class said he wasn't "real", but just your "Mom and Dad" pretending.....

I think I did a pretty damned good job creating an excuse for that one....and I think I might be able to *sneak* one more year out of the Santa Clause thing.....
And it breaks my heart, because I LOVE that he believes......

It's like a tragic milestone, when they get it all figured out.....(My parents STILL put gifts under the tree for us, from "Santa"......which I love..and which I will continue to do for my son......) BUT, when did your kids stop believing? Or do they still?

My girls stopped believing when they were 8 or 9...that seems to be the average age. But I still do the Santa thing with them because my son is 8, and he still believes...and also they love it.

I gave money to my girls after they stopped believing in the tooth fairy because they looked forward to it.

I do the easter hunt because they love it.

Whether my son believed or not, I still do these things for my kids because there is always a part deep down inside that wants to believe...

OMG! it's like de ja vu...

canadian hottie... all of those out there with kids go through this stage with them in their young lives. my son was 12 when the easter bunny didn't come and he was DEVESTASTED! he sat gently on the side of my bed, sniffling and softly crying. i could hear him but i didn't want him to know i knew he was crying so i woke up and yelled HAPPY EASTER! i said to him... what's wrong sweetie. he said, as he choked back his tears... the easter bunny didn't come this year and i don't know what i did wrong. i said, are you sure he didn't come? did you look everywhere? he sniffled the snot up his nose and said yes. i told him there had to be a mistake. i told him to hop in the shower and i would go get eggs so we could color them together. i went and hid the eggs i had in the fridge and took of in my jammies as fast as i could to the local drug store, bought a gift bag, filled it with tons of candy, had a stranger hand write a note from the easter bunny telling my son he had so many new kids to take easter baskets for that he was going to have to let his mom give him baskets from now on. he signed it "love the easter bunny". i ran back home... tossed tons of wrapped candies on the front lawn, along with the easter basket and i ran into the house yelling "COME LOOK, COME LOOK RYAN! DID YOU SEE WHAT THE EASTER BUNNY LEFT FOR YOU?" he came out all excited and relieved... he hadn't looked on the front lawn for anything from the easter bunny but there is was... his little easter bag and everything spread from one side of the lawn to the other. it must have taken him a good half hour to pick up all that candy.

it wasn't until he was like 15 that he confronted me and told me, jokingly of course, that he was traumatized by my way of keeping the easter bunny, santa clause & the tooth fairy alive in his mind. :) he really did appreciate me being so creative and trying to keep him believing. he was baffled at how i was able to be so convincing over the years and still stood there in front of me wondering what the truth was about all of it.

keep these tales alive as long as you can... it really does brighten their holidays. :)

i'll give you tips on how to keep your kids believing in santa clause next time ;)

CH...

Ohhh the memories of those days keeping Santa alive are coming back to me...

I squeezed in another year or so when my son came home from school with the same question. "Is Santa real? They said Santa's not real!"

I did some quick mental gymnastics and replied "Baby, Santa is real to all who believe in him."

Yeah...got me another year!

My 11 year old still hasn't said a word

My 9 year old just told me a couple of months ago that she knows I'm the tooth fairy ... sob..

Well my girls age 15 and 17 mind you no longer believe in santa claus or the bunny etc., they believe them all to be inventions for the commercial world. However they still truly believe that Sinter Claus (the dutch santa) is not a fake. Don't ask me why they do they just do. Maybe because they moved from there at an early age.

i clearly remember 2 xmas's ago..walking home from school with my daughter and her two best friends..one of the girls was telling them that she "knew" santa was a myth and that they were babies for believing in him. the other girl was simply horrified and couldnt accept what she was being told..my daughter on the other hand told her friend off and said that if someone believes in something then its true to them!
that was one proud day for me! my daughter is very level headed and said she'd always known that santa was a fake but liked the story of him so simply went along with it lol..however she only realised this year that the tooth fairy was a fake (i woke her whilst smuggling money under pillow)..my son is 7 and still believes :) rules in this house state that we never burst their bubbles!
kids tend to find out from their peers whats true or not.

My daughter(going into grade 2) whole heartedly believes. She has more faith in Santa, easter bunny, and that tooth fairy, and oh by the way she believes in Angels as well.

The tooth fairy just left her a note with her 2.00 a couple of weeks ago...telling her how proud she was of her, and she is growing into such a big girl now...blah blah, this is her last trip. and of course, she made sure to tell my daughter to brush her teeth everyday. I thought this was a very creative, and soft way to end this ritual...not many more teeth left to put under her pillow anyway.

Santa Claus is another story. I love my daughter believing in santa. It just amazes me to see how much faith she has. But we talk about the christmas spirit, and santa claus, and that there is this in everyone of us...that is why everyone can't help giving gifts to one another....and why there is so much love and happiness at xmas time. She loves the idea of this. I think this is a good segway...reality sucks, and that moment of realization of what is going on is devastating. I know she will always believe in xmas spirit, no matter what the other children tell her at school. I can only hope this will help that blow that is sure to come one day soon. i have a feeling, she will believe in santa for a long time coming...only if it's in her heart.

I know personally...I pretended to believe for years!!! I didn't want to hurt my mom's feelings...and for some reason...thought there would be less presents if I told her I knew.

Alright I'm a softie when it concerns my girls growing up, this subject brought tears to my eyes remembering the times when my oldest was filled with the joy of Santa, Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. My oldest is 14 now and my youngest is 8; my oldest has grown out of all of them and helps me promote the fantasies with her sister. I don't know what I'm going to do when the fantasy is gone, I believe I may have only one more year because her friends are telling her many things and my influence over her beliefs isn't as strong as it used to be since we are together only ervery other weekend. I love the joy in thier eyes and all the sprirt of the seasons and would love to have it back again.

Me and my bro saw my mom one year putting x-mas gifts under the tree back in grade school, but we liked to humor her with the Santa thing, but we always kept her going with the Tooth Fairy because of the cash, man. Easter Bunny? I think most kids can take it or leave it, in part because the only time you see it is in malls or wherever.

My father was a character and used to make up all kinds of odd ones like the Valentine's pig... so I think I clued in early that it was all made up. That said, my 8 year old still believes in Santa but doesn't in the Easter Bunny. As he gets older, one is easier to intellectually rationalize (the santa's on the street corners are helpers) than others.

I'm sure neither one of my kids believe anymore. My son for sure but he doesn't say much just in case his sister still believes. (thnk goodness for those little miracles and good hearts)

As long as I'm around, the Easter bunny will still come, the tooth fairy will visit for as long as there are teeth coming out and Santa will still visit long after I'm gone, hell Santa still leaves things for me under the tree at my parents place.

The nice thing about Santa as you're getting older is you can't really be sure who "santa" is. Sometimes it's me, sometimes it's my parents and every now and again it's my ex in-laws...depends on the gifts. We have sooo much fun with it. Excitement and wonderment, and lots and lots of heart filled memorable moments. Isn't that what it's all about.

At least your son still believes in the toothfairy. My son lost a tooth and I said that the toothfairy must have been running late ( I forgot.... bad mom ) and he said mom thats ok if you dont have a money on you know you can leave me your ATM card ... LOL and he is only 9 ... I died laughing and then just said ok ok you caught me.. he said he will pretend if i wanted him too. I explained the reason behind Santa and he is ok with it he still knows that the best present comes from Santa each year ( they tend to learn so much more at school ). Easter bunny is fun but he knows the truth and helps me keep all of them alive for my 2 younger daughters .... you lucky you reached 10 ... I didnt get another year.

My daughter figured it out when she was 7, but didn't tell me until she was 9. She said the she didn't want to ruin it for me! She's 14 now and I still do the Santa thing just because it's fun.

My kids are older and the Santa thing has stuck around for a reason.

My oldest (nearly 18) yr old daughter is developmentally delayed. It doesn't matter how many times we explain about Christmas and the Easter Bunny, right before the big day, she still believes. I think she's caught at the if I don't believe I won't get anything stage.
It's quite hilarious at times.

Most people don't quite get it and think I am totally out there but sometimes its just plain fun. Besides, I love filling stockings and sneaking around at 3:00 inthe am. on Christmas Eve.. I feel like an elf!!!
