I'm curious what people think about all these medications out on the market where they might cure one thing and maybe give you a heart attack, or a stroke. What do you think would you take something like that, take a chance? Have you heard of anyone who had a problem with medication? Tell us your experiences...

Its such a confusing and scarey world out there:
Vioxx; Merck Frost's arthritis wonder drug, recalled for some nasty effects. Pfizer's Celebrex and Bextra are very similar molecules...should they be recalled untill it's proven that they don't cause the same thing? How much(little) research went into this that they didn't know this before they made millions selling it?
Viagra; was supposed to be this exciting new blood pressure medication....incredible flop at controling blood pressure, but had this funky little side effect...
Then there's the herbs that have been ''restricted to external use only'' like comphrey leaves. But, when you look into it, the study that was instrumental in causing it to be labled external use only, actually fed the rats the equivalent of 7 dinner plates of comphrey leaves per day in order to cause the liver cancer. Personally, I think 7 dinner plates per day of ANYTHING is going to cause cancer somewhere.
Its all statistics, you can make the numbers say anything you want them to, if you pick the right thing to compare them to.

my mothers husban was on a drug for something and the side effect was it was giving him parkinsons desiese?? WTH? well the drug that works well for his problum is not available in the US. so my mother has to go to a special doctor 100 miles away get a script and then drive to canada to get it filled! since he has been on this new drug he has been doing awesome.. I dont understand why they would put things out that can make it worse?

my mother a RN nurse told me... during testing of new meds.. they have to claim any thing that happens when that person is on the drug.. so sometimes the problums are not even related to the drug it self.. but still in all... might cause psycosis... humm.. ok doc i still want it.? scary.

I was also supposed to take vioxx and celebrex refusing both I went for the weed.. I think celebrex is now included in the list there's five more dangerous drugs being recalled..As far as me I'm moving around alittle more and I quit cigarettes and that helps but I'm still huge.

congrats on quitting

yeah, it seems like the side effects for these drugs are getting worse and worse and the percentage of people at risk is becoming larger and larger : /

WOW YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD YOU WANT SOMEONE WHOSE TAKEN THESE TYPES OF DRUGS THAT WILL CAUSE HEART ATTACKS AND LIVER PROBLEMS AND WHAT NOT..

I WAS KNOWN AS THE QUEEN OF PRESCRIPTION AND OVER THE COUNTER DRUGS...
I was addicted to Tylenol PM from 5th grade till 9th grade , of course never knowing the consequences.. they also had me on percs, and valium when I broke or tore parts of my body up in sports, and man were those drugs great..
then my track coach gets me addicted to EPHEDRINE you know poor mans speed , you can buy a bottle of it for 7 dollars at your local gas station, yeah it makes you work out harder and faster but d*mn it sends you to the grave.. It gave me a heart attack at the age of 21...

Then they put me on adderall i have learned my addiction issues finally and only take it when absolutely neccesary but its still so bad for me and after four years of addiction to sleeping pills, my liver toxcicity is not in safe ranges for someone my age...

but i am working on not ever needing any kind of drugs to help me with anything...
im almost there, and feel better everyday...

Right on Ticket, way to go! That poor mans speed is what killed my X-girlfriend last December just before Christmas. I can tell you that broke my heart in two.. I'm a sober alcoholic, addiction just doesn't kill addicts it kills those around us. I joke around alot about drugs and alcohol getting me through the next four years of the Bush adminstration. I would rather go through another four years of Bush, then go on one more drunk. I really try not to take anything once in a while I smoke alittle weed, but now that I don't smoke cigarettes weed is just inhaling more smoke...

I was in so much pain last year, before my back surgury, I would have taken anything to stop the pain. I took Vioxx and celebrex and they didn't help. Demeral didn't help either.

Every Drug is another 'injury' to the body, whether minimal or major.

To many die every year from all kinds of drugs, prescribed or the illegal types.

but to be fair you have to think about all the lives it's saved. if it wasn't for all the research going into these drugs we wouldn't be making any progress to cure things like cancer, heart diseases, infections, etc.

True, but at the same time there is a price to be paid for them.

Some drugs are quite capable of averting death and other similar life-threatening situations. Painkillers for Operations & Dental Work are crucial as the work may not be possible any other way.

Those who wake up in the morning and reach for the Pill Bottles over every tiny little ailment are doing more harm than good to themselves.

Anti-biotics for instance severely tax, weaken & break down the body's immune system, but is a good trade-off if bacteria could do far more damage over the long term.

Many "Feel Good" drugs such as Valium & Prozac do more harm than good, and better & healthier alternatives exist such as those recommended by the Naturepathic Fields.

The best Man to consult for this might well be 'MedicExplorer'

I took myself off these meds 4 months ago cold turkey

Effexor 150mgs...slept 14 hrs a day

Nexium...severe acid reflux disease
reglan to take with the nexium

was on celebrex then put me on Vioxx...

Lipitor for family related cholesteral..love my veggies

plus my two inhalers...I still use those

but finally said enough is enough and quit everything cold turkey..been rediscovering my life and self and realize I don't need all of those above to be happy..kicking the husband out helped the acid reflux

Some of you might enjoy this website. It was developed by a laymen and there is quite a bit of humour along with some very interesting facts. Do a Google search, type in " crazymeds"

Byrd,
im really sorry man about your girlfriend.. but trust me in some other end of the spectrum way i understand since i was that girl, just lucky enough to have pulled through..
I still have a few addictions nothing that could hurt me like i was before,
but im working on not needing anything to get me through "a case of the mondays" even caffeine..
I dont know all i can say is i hope others can learn from the people who have died or come close to it and try to live a healthy happy life...
oh yeah weed is not a drug so rock on.

WanderingSpirit I was wondering if I could ask you about something...just some advice, nothing more (I am a straight female). I tried sending you a message but it would not let me because of your settings. Let me know...thanks so much.
