| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/21/2005 8:29:16 PM | | Come join me in my foot dragging, gasping for breath campaign of self-loathing and self-destruction. We will eat cheese puffs and smoke Marlboros. Our love will blossom in hospital waiting rooms. You will weep at my funeral for the life we could have had. | |

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/21/2005 8:36:45 PM | Let's start with obesity. Diabetes can result from obesity.
I was with a fat girl one time, and I'll never go near one again. I thought I was gonna give her a heart attack, or that she'd stop breathing. And let's just say that there was "a lot of stuff in the way."
Obesity certainly limits the activity of some. If breathing or even moving is difficult, it is not easy to date someone in this condition.
Just my two cents.

If they are at doctor all the time and in and out of the hospital forget it.
I am active and want my lady the same.

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/21/2005 9:07:29 PM | I'm actually less than five feet tall, but five feet is the least height I can have on my profile here. I can't see very well, and need very thick eyeglasses. Those two health problems, can make it hard for me to date.
But I watch what I eat, and I go to the gym every day. I agree with you say about it's hard to date fat girls.

Lots of lashing out and male bashing by the obese women.
POF should start a forum for obesity support and fat advocacy.
I would not date someone who was obese.

Lots of lashing out and male bashing by the obese women.
What is the purpose of all the lashing out and male bashing, by some of the obese women? Is this a forum for obesity support and fat advocacy, disguised as a dating site? I hope not!
If this online dating thing is supposed to work, you have to get rid of the anger and bashing from some who don't like some things they read. I don't think there is anyone on here, who would meet the dating preferences of everyone of the opposite sex here. So, we will all take some rejection. Why do some get angry over not meeting the dating preferences of some?

i prefer not to date anyone that is obese, smokes, do drugs, etc. just the way i am. i don't find any of those behaviors very attractive.

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/22/2005 1:46:09 PM | I have diabetes, and it's rarely an issue. I have to take insulin, and I don't hide. I don't care who sees it. Some people don't like it, I suggest they turn their heads, because I'm very discrete about it. People rarely have a problem though. Most people I've dated have a relative with diabetes, or know people at risk. I educate them, tell them what I've learned over the years. It's an inconvenience more than anything else.
Unfortunatel, my height is another issue. Being 5'3" is not the best way to get noticed!

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/22/2005 5:56:20 PM | I have a health issue. Sort of serious and can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. I don't always tell people right away because it doesn't affect them. Or their plans to date me.
Also, I wonder what thread sabre thinks he's replying to? or urban, for that matter? Are posts missing?

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/22/2005 6:32:51 PM | Personally I feel that ppl are ppl,and yu look at the person they are,not what health issues they have. After reading some of the replies to this post,I see many are not educated about the facts of obesity,or other common medical issues.Such as the fact that genetics is the number 1 determiner of obesity, not what you put in your mouth for food. I suugest a few men who have posted here, should look at what they have said, and perhaps realize their attitude plays a key factor in why their single.I am not obese,I have a few extra pounds and 3 wonderful beautiful daughters to show for it.I do however have health issues only relevant to women, and I don't think it would make me any less desirable to date if i was single. Bottom line is...If a person your dating, has any issues with you bein overweight or any health issue, move along, you can certainly do better then someone who thinks of themselves first, and has no compassion for others.Just my opinion. ~Sweet | |

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/22/2005 9:23:38 PM | So you are saying men who are single are uneducated on obesity.
So if men like myself become educated on obesity we will date obese women right?
Gentics or overeating it doesn't matter to me if I am not attracked that is the end of the story.
Midgets are a gentic condition also and I won't date them either lol.
I would rather be single for the rest of my life than be with an obese women like you are suggesting.
Thanks for the worthless input.

Theres always somebody for somebody!

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/22/2005 11:53:53 PM | Gotapulse has it right, if you this is an issue for you, simply don;t date this person. I'm diabetic but this is a condition, not who I am. I function quite normally in all areas! I've gone out with men who wanted to sleep with me but later said they didn't want to date a person with a chronic illness who is debilitated frequently. FYI, not all diabetics are in poor shape but to the contrary. Those of you who suffer from severe ignorance or sheer stupidity, get a clue and educate yourselves. On this same token, many people who are overweight isn't always because he/she lacks self respect or gorges on food and doesn't exercise. There is a multitude of reasons why some people are unable to drop the pounds, not all of the reasons/conditions are debilitating. The real question is, Why would anyone want to deal with those of you who lack intelligence? This is more a deficit than diabetis, obesity, smoking, etc. At this stage of the game one can still educate themself. What is the excuse for all of you who are so utterly dumb asses who don't bother to learn about others but jump to a conclusion before knowing the facts, Grow up! Stick with those that you can deal with on a superficial and unrealistic level. God forbid you or they come down with any disabilities because for those of you in this category, you would be suffering from a major disability. Those with health issues are simply differently abled. If you shallow packer want perfection, go out and buy the woman/man of your dreams and then lets speak of a disability. Good luck to all of you who are educated or at least try and those that keep an open mind. The rest, exile in ones own head is the worst possible thing and living alone because of false perceptions and blatant stupidity is where you will be left. The carmic bunny is a **** and I hope you end up getting your just desserts! Peace out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/23/2005 1:45:27 AM | I will say something here if I may. Just read this thread and I don't really see where it was hard to understand what why because I can said. just do something that is very easy to do read. I am a person that has diabeties and I have had a stroke. I am as well athmatic, nearsighted, and at one time extremely large for my height. Now so you know I eat once a day and very little at that. If I eat more I tend to gain weight. Now these issues are what you wrote this thread on. Let me say something here. I was over 350 pounds at one time until "I" not a doctor found a way to lose added weight that I had no control on. In a little over a year I have dropped from 357 to 220 all because I eat less than 800 calories a day in food. Now I as said am diabetic. a lot of my family have this condition as well. not all are over weight. I am asthmatic and this as well is also a large running factor in my family. the stroke is a condition due to sleep apnea that I have and didn't know it. Now my point in my even writing in this thread was this. Where and for what reason do you think that because a person has these conditions that they can't function in life. Yeah I go to the hospital for breathing treatments when my asthma kicks up but it is usually for some inconsiderate person smoking that causes it. I am allergic to smoke and I don't get off on a band wagon against it. I do what I do and go on with my life. I also have a time where I get short winded but I use an inhaler and go on not asking for anyones help or thier advice. I also work from 10 to 19 hours a day. Sometimes six to seven days a week. I don't let any health issues stop me and most people with health issues won't. It does seem that some have a problem with peoples that have problems and thats fine but why take and rub it in on people for something they may not be able to control. come on people in this thread alone some have said they don't date ladies of weight. some have said things about thier height. we all have flaws and issues of some kind. don't you think it is a good idea to look in your own closet and see where you stand on the issues of yourself. Don't down people for something that may or may not be controled by them. as far as diabeties goes a person can control this. Given there are some that can't for some reason or another. as far as a heart problem that can happen to the healthest of people. lost a dear friend to a heart attack. He was an avid fiend of watching what he ate, worked out, and jogged everyday. and for what a health issue got him and he left this world at the age of 27. If my body had looked only half as good I would have been happy. point is it can happen for no reason at any time. Like a poster had said get with it and take the time to find out more on each issue before taking and condimming someone for something that may not be thier fault.
Now before you do it I will say this I am not angry and I am a long ways from being mad. I just think you need to think before you start putting people down.

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/23/2005 6:06:09 PM | IMO - if you can't handle certain health issues, its simple, don't date the person. I met a guy who was at least 100 pounds overweight, perhaps even more. We toured the Rose Gardens in Tyler, TX. We had to go up 5 steps, and he was out of breath. The sad thing about this fella, is his van was full of trash from McDonald's and other fast food places. He chose to live his life this way and I chose not to see him again.
I'm not looking for Mr. Perfect because there's no such person out there. I do want someone who will take care of themselves (emotionally, physically, and spiritually). I am not a triathalon athlete, but I do enjoy my hiking, biking, walking, snorkeling, rafting, camping, fishing, and would want my mate to be able to keep me up. If you're the type that spends 3 hours/day in an indoor gym and constantly looks at yourself in the mirror, then I'm not interested in you either.
Mound made an interesting point, even though he has diabetes, he does manage it and stays on top of it. Kuddos to Mound, because he is into himself emotionally and physically! That is an admirable trait!
Moral of the story, accept a person the way they are (good & bad habits) or move on.

| Health issues and dating:Diabetis,Obesity,Smoking Etc. Posted: 8/24/2005 1:41:08 PM | yes the percentage is up and it is not good. But it also does not take into account that some people do not like the so called ideal weight that they are suppose to be. My ideal weight is suppose to be between 175 to 185 and i feel sick at that weight. I perfer to be around two hundred. now with the percentages anything that is 20% over is obese. The funny thing is when a person sees me they think I am heavier than I really am. I take predizone and one of the side effects is it makes a person swell. which I do. Now on the same scale my brother is suppose to be at 180 to 195 in weight. However if he did this he would have a problem for sure. since he has lost a leg and the one he wears would not fit if he were to be at a size that he was suppose to be at. so we can look at it in two different ranges both up and down. Now on the smoking aspect when a person tries to stop you have people that take and make it a point to light up when they are near. Go to eat and watch how fast a person that smokes lights up after eating. some even as soon as they finish and some never put the things out. personally I think all states here in the US should do as Florida and ban smoking in any restruant. I don't have a thing against a smoker but I like to enjoy a meal when I eat and not get the awful scent it gives when it is burning. Now I personally have no problem dating a person that has health issues. Now this is with in reason to say the least. I won't date a person that does not inform me that they have a problem that may be something I could worry about. On this I am not only meaning being able to catch something but in as much as to have to react if I had to. For if I know then I will know what I would have to do to help if I was needed. As far as dating a diabetic thats easy for if they are versed in what to eat and not to eat for thier problem then there is no problem. As far as a person that has a heart problem like I said before that can be at anytime and any place, and with anyone.
