| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 8:06:29 PM | I am scheduled to be induced on Saturday. I was just wondering if once they induce you do they keep you there to watch you, or do they let you go home until contractions start? Anyone been through this or went through this with someone? Would be nice to know.. kinda scared to have it done. Thanks! | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 8:25:36 PM | | When I was induced, they admitted me into the hospital, the contractions started shortly after. I was in labor about 14 hours before they finally had to do an emergency c-section (Whole nother thread). Time goes by pretty fast over all. But for me, I was admitted. | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 8:30:09 PM | | Don't be scared. I was induced with my second child...It was wonderful!!!! You are ready and prepared as are your nurses and doctor. My first was natural and painful and my third was born in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.....My second was the best! No, they don't send you home, you stay and they monitor you. You may (or may not) have an epidural...Don't worry, you will be just fine!!!!!! Good Luck and Congtats!!!!! Boy or girl? | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 8:45:02 PM | | It's a boy.. .He was due on the 3rd but apparently doesn't want to come out on his own. I wasn't sure really what they did they never really tell me much when I go to the doctors.. all she said was we will induce you on the 10th with the gel... and then she sent me off didn't give me a choice or explain anything to me... I hate that.. I just wish I would pop before than cause than I dont have to be as nervous to know when its going to happen I just rather it happen that way I dont have a lot of time to think about it... cuz when I get nervous I usually black out eventually... Im a wuss for pain and needles.. so.. Thanks. I just wasn't sure if they would keep me or let me go home. | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 9:12:34 PM | | My point exactly!!!! PAIN....with my first and third, I was too far along for any meds, but when you are induced, you are set up and they can give you meds right off the bat. It was so much less stressful…..I was two weeks late with my last one and wanted to be induced but they wouldn’t do it. When she was finally ready to show herself in this world, she came fast (thus being born in an ambulance)…Take some time for yourself these next few days….on Saturday, take a long shower, do your hair and makeup and go in feeling beautiful….it will be the last time for quite awhile that you will be able to pamper yourself. | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 9:13:40 PM | I have heard that it can be but it really all depends on your attitude and physiology. Check up on the baby websites. Todaysparent.com is a good one. And if you are having any questions about anything, message me. I love talking baby talk.
Good luck! Congrats! | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 9:25:43 PM | My 'natural' labour was going along too slow... My water broke early in the morning (1:30am), and come 10am I was still only 2cm dialated, so they induced me with a drip... I found the natural labour to be much more pleasant...Inducing seemed to bring the contractions on really hard and very close together...I finally caved after 2 hours of contractions every 30 seconds-1 minute and got the epidural... My mother still to this day holds it over me that I got the needle, but she never was induced...
Good luck to you though! It'll all be worth it no matter what happens...
Cheers!

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 9:25:59 PM | Yes, it hurts way more than natural labour, that's why they have to have all those extra pain meds and stuff on board. Your body, and your baby are not ready to do this thing.
My first pg was induced, labour went on forever, was intense, and ended up in a c-section anyway cause the baby was just not into it.
Second pg I stayed away from the hospitals entirely, did a home birth, with midwives, and had NO pain medications at all. it was low pain, relaxed (as labour gets) and definitely did not go on all day.
IMHO, avoid induction if you can. baby and body know when they are ready. good luck, C

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/6/2005 10:46:45 PM | I too, was induced and my best piece of advise is, REFUSE to go home once the process has started. Many people don't know this, but your doctor isn't completely liable for anything that happens when you're at home..... When my doc suggested I go home and 'wait' a bit, I said, "I'll tie myself to a waiting room chair if I have to, but I'm not leaving here without a baby in my arms."
I got to stay. | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 5:24:12 AM | i have been induced 3 times out of my 4 pregnancies. where i am, once they have induced you..they keep a close eye on you. they never let me leave the hospital. its quite a scary thought but isnt as bad as you think and there are plus sides!! as soon as they induce you..you know your baby is on the way no matter what and if anything they tend to keep a closer eye on you (they do here). you will be fine
ps..my first induced labor was rotten but quick..second was extremely quick and totally painless, in fact she fell out on the bathroom floor! and my last one ended up with a c section. each birth is different..ignore horror stories! also i found that by walking around and going up and down hospital stairs, my labors went much quicker! (i even jumped up and down in loo when no one was looking) my first born was 11 lbs and i started naturally..she nrly killed me getting her out lol! you will be fine

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 5:34:31 AM | Well I know when I was induced they said we were having these babies today... I was 37 weeks with twins ... so one way of the other they were coming out... anyhow i ended up having emerg c-section... but on the other hand my cousing was two weeks over due and when they induced her... she was there for like half the day and nothing was really happening so they sent her home... I believe she came back the next day to go through it again...... So I guess it all depends on the Doctor and the person...
Good luck to you... :) | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 5:57:21 AM | | Cyndi 62...I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Baby and body DON'T always know when they're ready....I know this as a medical professional AND a mother. It's not healthy for a fetus to remain in the uterus past a certain point. My baby, at 8lbs 8oz was certainly ready.....he'd been ready for awhile. The cord was wrapped around his neck.....and after 32 hours of steady induction they finally went in and took him out. Believe me, he was ready to come out! | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 6:01:43 AM | I was induced, they gave me pitocin.. they have to inject it thru an iv so if they induce you and use that, then you will be admitted.. after the pitocin was injected they had to give me phenergan because it makes you sick. all of the meds they gave me, made my veins blow.. not a pretty sight.. they also had to break my water for me then about a hour later had to give me a catheter to put fluid back in.. haha.. i had it rough though, i had lost 16lbs in one day, my daughter was born 14 days early, i was in labor 36 hours before they decided i was failure to dilate, then i had to have a c-section, which my epi wore off during, got staph infection afterwards, a week later actually i had to be cut back open, and had an open wound for 5 months..
needless to say.. i was weary of becoming pregnant again..
oh and when they decided that i was failure to dilate, my daughter was in distress, i was having contractions 30 seconds apart and she wasn't getting any oxygen.. (i only dilated to 5)
I only have one child, and have only been induced once, so i don't know if its any different than natural..
Good luck to you honey!!!

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 6:53:27 AM | Oh the horrors stories,.. geeees ladies,.. lighten up for the poor thing! Induction or not the labour is just that... LABOUR ( which by definition means WORK!!!!) Maybe a short shift, may be an overtime one. WE all survive it to pass on stories ( why is it everyone is oooh yess babies babies babies and then as soon AS you find out you are pregnant then the uncomfortable/negative parts come out??) Positive thoughts to you girl only! Think of the fabulous gift you receive in the end. Everyones pain tolerance level is unique so NO ONE can tell you how you'll feel.
One piece of advice if I may,..... and this applies to ANYONE not just pregnant Mum's. NEVER NEVER NEVER leave a Dr's. office begin TOLD something is going to be performed on you or a loved one without ALL the information you need to understand it and agree or disagree with the decision. "Next patient or I am very busy" line doesn't cut it!!! This is you and your life.

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 7:18:07 AM | | I was induced with my son! It was my first pregnancy and lot's of people told me not to do it! They told me to wait as long as I could! I didn't listen! I went in and they gave me the gel, and broke my water. The contraction start getting way too fast. Nothing helped! I tried walking, hot tub, birthing ball, nothing helped! To top it off I was throwing up every 5 minutes! Then they told me I wasn't dialating fast enough, and that they might have to do a c-section! After about 20 hrs. of VERY painful labor, I had an epidural. I was alot better, I got some sleep. My labor lasted about 26 hrs all together. It was one of the worst things. I had to get cut and the had to use the vacuum. I couldn't even hold my son afterwards, because I was so sick. I will never get induced again unless I absolutely had to! Oh and definetly don't leave the hospital, my labor come on real fast! | |
|
| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 7:19:53 AM | right no ones labor is the same.. but in the end we all come up with the same results right??? As for horror stories, people need to get over it, you will hear them when you get pregnant, it happens! lol..
I don't think anyone exactly said "this is exactly how you will feel" they were giving THEIR experiences.. so that she can get some kind of ideas as to what to expect, like the saying goes, expect the worse, hope for the best..

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 7:59:46 AM | | Thanks everyone :) at least I have a general idea as to wut its like for lost, and kinda what to maybe expect.. THANKS :) | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 8:34:21 AM | It all depends on what kind of induction they use. If it is the drip you stay in the hospital. IF you get the gel inside of you, then they send u home. They wont keep u in the hospital if you are not dilated enough. I was only dilated at 2 cm when I went to get induced. I was already 10 days overdue. They didnt give me the drip b/c my dilation wanst far enough.
as for labor pains.. I felt as if I was getting my period. The so called pain got stronger as time went on but by the time it hurt more and more, i was able to get the epidural.
My labor went quickly.. i am lucky. Went in at 2 pm to get induced. Got out and went home and by 7 pm I went back to the hospital since I was 2 mins apart. Got the epidural and by 232 am my son was out...
so dont worry about labor. Pain is tolerated by your tolerance level.
good luck ;)
bet u r excited :) | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 2:26:27 PM | I wish you all the best in your delivery and welcoming of your new blessing. As many have already said every pregnancy/delivery is different.
Myself I was induced with my 2nd daughter although for me it was a stressful situation which I believe made it more difficult. I was only about 6 - 6 1/2 months when my daughter was diagnosed with a very rare spinal cord birth defect called anacephly which meant she would never be capable of living outside of the womb for very long if at all. So I was sent to a high risk specialized doctor for my delivery. I went to his office at noon and they induced me by putting what looked like barbie sized tampons (u know the little pieces of stuff theat comes with barbies) into my cervix. I was they released to go on about my day and was instructed to just come back to the hospital when I was uncomfortable. This wasn't until about 6 1/2 hours later - mind you I knew that my baby was destined to die shortly after birth so I was already stressed. Delivery was very difficult for me but it was also a part that I was so prematurely delivering. Needless to say she was born exactly 12 hours and 13 minutes after I was induced and sadly died 1 hour and 44 minutes later. The delivery itself was so different than when I had my 1st. Contractions with the induced labor hurt more and the medicine for induction caused me to have gas really bad so I felt like my stomach was about to explode. That was my experience with it anyway - I'm sure all will be fine. Just keep in mind the blessing that will come out of all the pain and work. That joy will over come most any pain you will ever have in your life. It does for me anyway.
Best wishes. | |

| Question about being induced!! Posted: 9/7/2005 2:53:07 PM | hugs to you yourbrowneyedgirl? .. a very difficult thing to have had to expirience. A comforting thought..I was told when i lost one of mine that all babies are taken to heaven when they are too special to stay on earth, they are in heaven decorating gods gardens!
i dunno if tht sounds lame.. but it has brought me comfort over the years.
Hugs! | |
