Posted: 9/11/2005 9:44:15 AM | I am new to this online thing and have already met a few nice guys, but what I want to know is, will I meet someone? I mean I know there are not definate answers on ANYTHING in life, but really what are the odds. I am recently divorced and I know I won't meet anyone in a bar! Well anyone who wants more than sex!!!!! And I am not religious so I won't meet anyone in church because I don't go, so I said what the hell and I am giving this a try. So how do you feel chemistry with someone online? | |

would hold off and get over that pain and make my peace before I began looking
again. (That's a rule of mine: Never date anyone who hasn't been single a full year)
As for will this work for you? I don't own a crystal ball. Only time will tell. | |

If you enter into any situation with a pre conceived expectation you are going to be dissapointed - online dating included.
Just relax, have a good time, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
In addition, if you have expectations it will come through in you actions and may scare potentials away.

Posted: 9/11/2005 11:06:21 AM | One thing's for sure, whatever you could/can find in a local hangout or bar, you can find in spades online.
Sure, the anonymity of the internet is a cause for caution, but on the positive side, it's like networking on a global scale... you can't do that at your local pool-hall or bar.
So yes, there are going to be more of every type... good, bad and ugly. I've actually had several relationships that started online - They didn't ultimately turn into marriage, but I was with one girl for a year or so. I wouldn't have even met her otherwise as she lived in a rural area and I was in the city. There are abusers of the online world, surely as there are abusers of the bar-scene.
You just have to exercise caution.
But on the more positive side, you can learn a lot about people online, such as their ability to converse and be articulate in text. A lot of people are smooth talkers with their voice, but can't carry on a conversation in text. Things like that... not that that will tell you everything, but it provides some insight that you don't normally get in a bar, for instance. | |

Posted: 9/11/2005 3:00:24 PM | I have been doing it for more than five years. I have been in several relationships over those years with people I have met online, and here is what I have learned:
1. Some people are married, and here to lie, and string someone along for sex. Not sure about how many women do this, but I have heard there are tons of men who do.
2. You can really meet someone with whom you are more compatable with, and you get allot out of the way before meeting them in person such as finding more out about them that you may not be looking for in a person.
3. Be prepared to meet someone you are very interested in that lives a long ways away from you. This has happened to me often.
4. Never be in a hurry to do anything when it comes to a relationship. You might meet 20 people you would never give the time of day to, and for good reason, there has to be one there somewhere that suits you. Number 26?
I have had sucess meeting people online, none of them turned into anything long term however. The one thing I myself have changed while using online dating is that I am more picky than I was before. That is a good thing. I have also learned to not look for love as much online, and look elsewhere. lol
I know I didn't help you much, but I thought I would try anyway. | |
