fake pics on profile
Posted: 9/20/2005 11:38:06 AM
I've notice that some people are using fake pictures on their profile. Some are even on the top 500 list. You might be wondering how I might know this. Its because one of my friends collects background pics of models all over the world, and screensavers and ask me if I was interested in taking a look for myself. Low and behold some pictures were there right on the site. I reported this to plentoffish admin who thank me and will investigate it. My question is this, do you think that the rating system is fair to everyone who has taken the time, and effort to take a REAL ditial picture of themself. Instead of one that has be airbrushed and photoshoped to perfection?

no! the rating system is not fair. women will either vote on the profile, not the pic, or they will think of the times when an attractive guy has screwed them over and automaticly vote them low. the rating game is just a game!

the real quesiton you should ask is:

does the rating help you get the right one? how many women would not date you simply b/c your rating is too low??

remember, when someone needs you, even the whole world is against you, she will still follow you,

The rating game is only to help you get more exposure.

fake photos? if you dont like it, sue them for copyright violation. otherwise, let them be.

yeah, lol....
I'm a photographer... I can spot a professional shot from a mile away.

Most of the people who are on POF have not the means or the need for a photographer who's work would run easily into 4 figures.
I'm both appalled and amused when people talk to this fakes as though they are real, when it's glaringly obvious that they are fakes...
Some people don't even bother to use fakes of the same PERSON....

All thier pics will be of a brunette....but in one photo she'll have a long thin nose, and in the next a shorter wider one....or the eyes will be different colors. LMAO...if you're gonna fake, put the effort into doing it well, willya?

Just read this thread and I went to look at the top 500- one of the profiles has a bunch of pics of a girl from a Victoria's secret catalogue . . .doesn't everyone get that catalogue?? Who'd believe that??

Who cares? We're rating the pic, not the person. If they want to be fakes, then let them basque in their ill reward.

No you are rating someone else other the person behind the profile.

BTW the thread is in regard to profile with fake pictures not the picture rating system. People depend on the profile information which includes "their" picture to base decisions regarding emails, phone calls and even meeting in person. The willingness of some to accept and allow the behaviour should answer many questions posed on various other threads. I guess wearing rose colored glasses really doesn't obscure one's vision if their head is up their ass....

Doesn't posting a picture that's not really of you constitute breaking the rules, if it can be shown that it's not really the person's picture?

Just remember you see a fake pic, or one that isn't even of them, you know they have issues and to run -- like Forrest Gump
It's the same with everyone's pic, they don't look the same as they did when the pic was taken, you can only pray they tell you what has changed since then lol

Your commment is not only direct but funny. It also puts to shame the very people i'm taking about. How can anyone comment on fake pics and yet have one on their profile. I think we should start a smoking gun club. To inform and bring to light anyone that tries to take advanage of this service which we use as a medium to express our hopes and desires on meeting people.... So what say you all....Bring those to justice or let be and have there way with the innocent.

i couldnt tell you the number of responses i get from men who put this pic of a gorgeous man, everything in thier profile is A+, and they are not even close to who they say they are. i have had twice this happen and found that they were some black guy from nigeria or somewhere who the hell knows, when they are supposed to be blond, white, from georgia, etc... lol it amazes me and what is the point? i wont talk to anyone in detail until i am satisfied that i am talking to the right person, too many wierdos out there.

Already suggested in the "pic authenticity challenge" thread. I still think it's potentially a great idea with a little tweaking...

Thank you passinthru for the info I've should've of looked it up. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to write a comment even the ones that pose an opposite view from mine. I would also like to state that a avatar, which is clearly meant as a expression of humor or statement of belief, is in no way against the fake profile viewpoint. It is clearly known as avatar not meant to deceive anyone. I also think that some type of explanation in the contexts of the profile should support the avatar whether in character or viewpoint.

Which rule is that?

Terms of Service
e. you will not post messages, pictures or recordings or use the Service in any way which
i. violates, plagiarizes or infringes upon the rights of any third party, including but not limited to any copyright or trade-mark law, privacy or other personal or proprietary rights, or
ii. is fraudulent or otherwise unlawful or violates any law;

While most of the stuff that people 'borrow' off the internet is copyrighted, there is nothing there about the pictures being of *you*.

I Pay for about 6 Real Datig Sites of wich I have to use Real Photo's of me on,
a real photo is not going to help you on POF...

Simply because The Jist of POF is the personality that we impart here in The Forums, that is why you see so much Fractional Art and Fanciful Photo's, I ran BUSH IN BONDAGE by James Neff for a very long time and my Photo Ratings were through the roof...

From my experance, real photo's can help and hurt you in this format, so I save real for my friends and fantasy for all the rest...(-;

I post real, semi real, ufo's over my house, semi real ufo's over my house, my art..whatever. I change them often. Sometimes it's because I'm showing it to someone I'm messaging with, sometimes just clowning around. If someone wants to know if a pic I posted is really me, ask, I'll tell them truthfully. I'm mostly here for the forums anyway. It would be awfully stupid to post a fake pic with the intent of attracting someone...I mean, you've pretty much screwed yourself when it comes time to meet, haven't ya?

defined as: deceitful: intended to deceive; concealing truth; "deceitful advertising"

That one word from the POF TOS pretty much covers it.....

I'm seen a few profiles that I can tell people have gone out and got pro photos of themselves but can tell a "fake" pic from a real pic

If I was interested in someone I'd mostly like ask if they had any more pics than the one they're showing. This is the net though and it has its pits. If you're meeting someone this way, or buying something on the net etc. you take your chances.
