Posted: 9/22/2005 11:41:33 AM | What if the government could inject every child at birth with a temporary sterilization gene that would simply allow people to not get pregnant with 0 side effects, and the only way to get "turned on" would be to apply to the government for a Childbirth License?
To have a child, you would need the following:
1. Minimum 1 year relationship
2. Mat leave available at your place of work / Partner with minimum income of 60k/year
3. Completed Childbirth and early childraising courses supplied by the Government
4. Proof of good environment to raise a child ( I.E. No crack houses for baby Timmy )
What do you think?

Just because you can have a kid doesn’t mean you should. Pass the test first! Good plan!
It’s never going to happen though. Even welfare crack-heads have rights. Too bad. | |

As opposed to all the young dumb parents popping out future single parents and criminals left and right?
Poverty, over population, crime... all lowered by less unwanted "oops" kids. | |

None of those things make for good healthy children. What about love and caring? Classes and people being together for a certian amount of time don't mean anything. Sometimes it only means that Mom has been getting her a$% beat for 2 years, insterad of 6 months. I don't want the government making me get their approval before I have a child. People sometimes get married before they're even together a year, so you're saying they can't have a kid until that year is up? That's ridiculous. And a minimum income of 60K, gee, I'd like to see that happen, but I don't think all of America is going to be able to find jobs that pay that well without some sort of further education. But aside from all of that, I don't need "Big Brother" telling me any more of what I can and can't do. | |

My 'big' sister was an 'oops' kid, I love her to death. That 'oops' caused my parents to marry eventually and then along came two 'planned' ones after that...my kid brother and I.
Sorry, but sometimes an 'oops' is the best thing that happens to society. At least two peoples' 'oops' produced one of the highlights of my life that has been, despite the sibling bickery, the best thing to happen to me! | |

Egads....having some faceless bureaucracy not only dictate to me whether or not I can have children, but dictating to me, in effect, how they should be raised?

How about the guy that has to pay for 18 years because the condom broke and the woman decided that SHE wanted the kid? Or the teen moms that thinks having a kid at 15 is a good life choice. I would rather have the government decide those ones thank you. You chicks have had the decision way too long and some of you have done a very bad job.
As far as the “Animal Farm, Stalin, Hitler....Orwellian” thing. I can see the Orwellian thing but could you please explain the Animal farm, Stalin, Hitler comments. No one has suggested racial purity or having a quota on how many (that would be the Chinese method).
