| Bachelor food Posted: 10/5/2005 6:09:06 AM | What are your favorite things to eat, as a single bachelor? Of course this usually means things that require little or no preperation and dishes to wash up. eating out of the pot is usually required as well. Or eating with fingers.
Me, well, I eat a lot of toast. mmmmmmmm, with a variety of things on it.
Or the odd can of stuff like oysters or sardines on crackers.
Eggs (but I hate washing the pan)
Beer
soup, with an egg cracked in to it or some spinach thrown in
Nuts
apples
raw veggies and fruit, or dried fruit
tea
Canned beans, (on toast with cheese)
Or forgo the meal altogether and have a smoke and a whiskey

| Bachelor food Posted: 10/5/2005 6:34:49 AM | I think you are talking about *young* bachelors. Us older single guys have learned how to cook. | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/5/2005 6:47:02 AM | | How about Hungry Man TV dinners. ha | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/5/2005 7:01:16 AM | | Oh, I know how to cook, amigo, but I reserve that pleasure for when i am entertaining a guest or making food for my children and I to share. | |
|
| Bachelor/Bachelorette food Posted: 10/5/2005 7:42:02 AM | | hey O-T-B...I can relate totally. I can cook up a storm when I need to but when I am on my own I eat mostly salads or soups. Actually also a few things on your list up there. So its bachelorette food too! | |

| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 10:27:51 AM | sounds fun.
I am trying to avoid cans, but some stuff tastes good out of them. I am also trying to avoid doing the dishes
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 6:55:55 PM | | I have little sympathy for the 'bachelor' syndrome. Anyone can cook if they apply themselves. Maybe they are not hungry enough. | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 8:04:40 PM |
Eggs (but I hate washing the pan) OTB ~ how difficult is this, really?!
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 8:05:44 PM | yeah yeah yeah so you are a gourmet.
I can Totally make amazing dishes.. ut this is more a discussion of slacker food.
and I seriously doubt that you cook every night.
And ultravox, it isnt that I cant wash the pan, it is that I would rather spend that time doing something else.
I think I am just going to eat steaks with my hands like a barbarian. Leave the washing up for guests. They seem to like to do it for some reason.

| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 8:24:50 PM | | I either cook or go out, sorry to disturb your thread... (walks away silently) | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 8:37:11 PM | All that stuff you mentioned is good bus, I am a big fan of just add water foods, generally exercise supplements work well, have you ever tried whey concentrate, that stuff rules! Hmm coffee, tea, ever try that mayateen stuff (yerba matae), good that. I do occasionally need to eat green things I find, though not if I take vitamins. I like meat, that is about all I usually cook for myself. Ever try those caned meal supplements for people that cannot eat solid food, those things rule, like a meal in a can, less the dishes. I cook soup sometimes too, but only if I have run out of every thing else, I just put every thing left into a pot and forget about it for a while, Made ketchup soup once (pretty much hitting rock bottom there). I put spices in if I plan to share it with anyone female. Anything high calorie low effort basically.

| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 8:41:24 PM | | hehehe "slacker" food...that's a cool thing to call it...........I really don't believe there are people who cook or go out. I mean...whats wrong with sandwiches? | |
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 9:28:24 PM | They need to come out with a product that is like bachelor chow, all the flavorless affordable nutrients i need to live in one cereal box sized package, just add water...
I really do love food, but I some how never care when I eat alone, I get enjoyment out of the eating with people somehow. In fact I am one of those people who forgets to eat/sleep from time to time, werid no? Too lazy to remember to eat i guess...
|
| Bachelor food Posted: 10/6/2005 10:51:24 PM | Hmmm....make that an Al Capone Sweet and a whiskey for me.

| Bachelor food Posted: 10/7/2005 2:11:16 PM | Ahhh. Thanks for the invite back. I hate lurking on this.
And for the record, I rarely would eat a sandwich. Maybe soup though. And that would be the point of my post. There are certain things, like soup, in the winter especially, and other easy recipes that a person with little will to cook or limited skills should adopt.
I am a bachelor myself, and I found out early on it is really good to have at least a small stable of items you can do well. Not just for a date, that might be more elaborate, but on a daily basis so that you take care of yourself and eat right.
Crock pot recipes, small roasts, pastas, nifty salads, stir fry, pan searing and other things come to mind as being incredibly easy on a daily basis. For the days you do not want to mess with it, you go out or order in.
I am writing a book on the very subject (probably mentioned that before) so the subject is important to me more than I let on.

| Bachelor food Posted: 10/8/2005 1:49:32 PM | cook up big portion of hash browns with salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Dump on a plate.
Fry up three eggs, over-easy - dump on top of hash browns.
MMMMMMMM
I usually have a green salad with it (just a little olive oil/balsamic on top), cuz I feel guilty about having such a calorie and cholesterol bomb for supper
