| Women: What do you look for in an email? Posted: 12/12/2004 8:37:10 AM | I am fairly new here....maybe three weeks now. I have sent out a few emails and received a few replies which was just great. A few of my emails were just saying hi and paying a compliment because either I did not quite fit the bill (usually age) or the geographical gap was too large, but something got my attention and I thought since I am sitting here I should say something. I never received as much as a thank you from these emails and that got me wondering.......
How do the women here view the listings and handle the emails they receive. As well, do women tend to send out the first volley, or do they sit back and wait?
I am sure the best answer to this is "it depends", but being a bit more specific may help me gleen a better understanding.
Q: Do you write first? Q: Do you reply to all reasonable emails? Q: What do you look for in an email? Q: Is a long email better? Q: Is a brief "hello this is me" email better?
And guys: If you are going to jump in here be nice, eh? I know most of you are, but yikes! that brush that paints us ALL is running around loose. *L*

Sometimes nice to have the guy right first..
I personally respond if their reasonable...like one guy wrote and said I live out of town and come to your area once a week..want to get together for some fun?? I didn't respond.
Most women want the guy to show genuine interest in knowing her ..had one friend pm me and surprised the heck out of me due to I didn't think he was interested...He wrote"Hi..how are you?",..I replied fine and what was going on in my life..He wrote back and said "no..how are YOU" first time a guy ever put it that way and we're writing back and forth daily now. A woman wants to know a guy is genuinly interested and not just a fly by nite.
No a long email isn't better...medium I guess lol
actually the hello this me is ok...let the woman know what caught your attention in her to make you want to write and get to know her...then add a lil about yourself.

You sound like very level headed person with excellent answers? So let me ask you a question? Why is it that everyone I write to just ignores it. I always take time to read their profile and make referance to something they have talked about in it. I also always behave gentlemenly in my messages. However, none of that seems to matter they just ignore it? So are they just being the cold hearted Biotches they truly are or am I mistaken? I can't seem to get a decent response that makes any sense. Like I said earlier I could understand not replying to some outside of your area or if they had been rude but to blantly to trash someone's email that has done neither is in my opinion extemely rude.

Thanks for your insight. I am sure we would all find it nice when the other writes first. *S* Maybe this is just a guy thing stereotype, but when I see a profile that catches my fancy I imagine there are a gazillion other guys writing at the same time.
I am with you on the meduim sized email. I like to write and say hi and let them know I am interested in talking to them. I do not go on about myself because I figure they'll be reading the profile and I always suggest batting a few emails back and forth to get a feel for each other. I guess what I do with my emails is open the door a bit to see if they want to take another step.
Thanks again; Randy | |

I am thinking, that maybe they see your profile and then read a forum post or two. How many women want do you suppose find statements like "...cold hearted Biotches they truly are..." attracting and endearing? not many is my guess and those who do, well, you get what you give. I would think it more acceptable to "blatantly trash someone's email" than to trash an entire gender. But hey, that's just my opinion. Maybe this whole thing is game and I am just messed up on the rules, but I do not think so.
Good luck out there....

| Women: What do you look for in an email? Posted: 12/12/2004 12:32:13 PM | | Well I'm in total agreement with you. But I was on this site for a year before I ever said a word in the forums. Nothing has changed for me they didn't answer my messages in the begining and they don't now. So I haven't really hurt myself now have I? Besides at this point I really could care less of what the think they already are thinking the worst and are dead wrong. | |

| Women: What do you look for in an email? Posted: 12/19/2004 5:18:27 PM | i can't speak for all women, i can only speak for myself. i have been online for about 6 years and a year after i had put a profile on line there was one guy who wrote me and said he was just looking for friendship, and sent a picture, seemed very friendly, but didn't try to hit on me. i wrote him back. and we have been writing everyday now for 5 years. as of last year he has terminal cancer. i don't go to bed at night before sending him an email. i have had men say they want to be friends first when what they really, want is friendship with benifits. i answer all emails unless they are very rude. even if they are in another country. i think the main thing i want in an email is for the person to be honest. most people on here are not. if i am not what i think you are looking for i will write and say so. so don't take it so personal guys. | |

| Women: What do you look for in an email? Posted: 12/20/2004 5:54:46 AM | I don't have a set of rules to follow. I tend to 'go with the flow'.
I would preffer a longer email rather than a short one, where the person tells me about themselves, and how we would be a good match as people, either for friendship, or for a relationship, depending on what they are looking for.
Honesty goes a long way, and most people that try to fake their true intentions end up showint thier true colours sooner than later anyway, so if its not truthful, don't bother :)
A short email asking about or commenting on sexual subjects is deleted as soon as I receive it. Emails commenting on "nice pic" and nothing else, or "wanna meet tonight" right off the bat (no interest in anything other than looks or the remote idea of a try at immediate gratification" is also useless and doesn't inspire me to do much about it.
Most times, when a guy takes the innitiative to email, there is something interesting him. From that first email, most times you can tell what he is interested in, and you can go from there. It beats guys replying to me just to see if they can get an easy lay since I have already shown interest by emailing first :P No offence to the guys, but more often than not, that is what happens. I know there are exceptions, but I am not conceited enough to think of myself as the exception all the time :)
I look around, but I am not in the mood to be "trowing myself" at men, out in the world, or online. Maybe some would see that as a disadvantage. But it saves me time and heartbreak, specially since I am not interested in one nighters :)

| Women: What do you look for in an email? Posted: 12/20/2004 11:57:59 PM | | sorry i'm probably guilty of this one. If your not within the age gap of 23-35 I delete. If I don't feel nothing there. I delete. If there's no photo I block, If it's s*x mail I block. If it's a let's trade photos. I block. I'm very picky and something has to catch my eye. Or even the email has to interest me. If it doesn't suit my fancy it's either a block or delete key. lol | |
