If you are local to the Monroe, NY area there is a great place with homemade burgers called Fat Boys and it is nice, quiet not to pretentious and you could sit and talk or play pool or darts but it has a nice warm friendly atmoshphere. Me and my girlfriends hang out there because it isn't a meat market.

If you're in NYC and want to try something different, go to New Pasteur, on Baxter. It's Vietnamese food, great portions, great prices. Also, if you go there, get the fresh lemonade. It is, actually, made fresh. It's also small, and rarely busy.
If you're on Staten Island, you could go to Vida, another smallish place. Not so cheap, but great food.

Vagabondo, it means tramp.
62nd St between 1st & 2nd Ave. with indoor Bocce ball court; if the date isn't going anywhere, could at least have a game.

The View, at the Marriott Hotel in time's square. It's on the top floor and rotates, giving you a full view of the Manhattan skyline. It's an all you can eat type of deal, but a little on the expensive side around 40 bucks a person.

Hello
I live in Syracuse and one of my fave places to visit is the Onandaga Lake Park. Almost anytime of year. It can be fun, it's what you make it, and it's definately free.
Places to eat...if you like thin crust, almost gourmet, pizza, you can find that at Movino's on Walton Str. A comfortable, no nonsense, homey little place. There are lots of expensive, fancy places too, some in Hanover square. During the Summer, all sorts of open air Festivals in all 3 squares to enjoy. Free music, nice atmosphere every weekend. And then maybe a nice drive to watch some fire works. They happen every weekend too.

I, personally, don't like coffee...makes me...

I live in Queens, New York. I was at Union Square today and I noticed they had an open ceiling restaurant. I think that would be a good place to take a date for lunch in the afternoon. You can also go to Bryant Park on 42th street and also find a bar that's located in the park.

my best place to eat is on a blanket on the ground. picnic's are great and tells you a lot about a person. i don't want a guy who's afraid to get his jeans dirty.

Deity Lounge/Bar - 368 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn. It's a lounge/bar, has music and a very nice atmosphere - perfect for that icebreaker drink. http://www.deitynyc.com/home/

Scopello Restaurant - 63 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn. Amazing food and very nice ambiance. http://www.scopello.net/

Yerba Buena Restaurant - 23 Avenue A, Manhattan. Amazing food, the place is a little on the pricey side so it's more of a second date sort of place but AMAZING!!! Reservations are encouraged. http://www.yerbabuenanyc.com/

Zombie Hut - 273 Smith Street, Brooklyn - Nice place for a first drink. Has a nice lounge area in the back with a fireplace and the drinks are reasonable.

Shalel Lounge - 65 West 70th Street, Manhattan - Very nice place to have drinks and appetizers for the first icebreaker date. Loungy, dark and sexy. The perfect makeout place. :)

Tavern on Dean - 755 Dean Street, Brooklyn - Perfect for a Brunch/Lunch/Dinner date. Reasonable priced and great food. A little loud during dinner but nice. http://www.tavernondean.com/

LimeLeaf - Thai Restaurant - on the UWS. They let you chill out for hours if you call ahead and they aren't busy. Met a woman from eHarmony took her here and she liked it. She never ate Thai before. She was great, Math Major, went to Columbia U, but I guess things didn't click, so I'm still fishing.
