| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 3/22/2006 2:10:57 PM | Each local area has it's dating advantages and disadantages. For example, if you come from a small a$$ town with just a post office and a road side quikie-mart, you might want to try looking for good dating ideas and restaurants in other areas.
First try doing an online search of restaurants in your local area and surrounding areas. Once you think you've found a reasonable place, make a date with you'rself to go and try it out. Restaurants with themes tend to be a little bit more attractive, like "POP's Branding Iron" and their wesntern theme (Albany), "Rockin' Rodgers" and their 50's theme, (Salem), and "Mo's Restaurant" with their Coastal theme (Newport and Linoln City).
If one or both of you would rather do something else, there are other things to do. Hicking, games, and browsing gift shops are just to name a few. If you have a little bit more money, you can rent a plane and fly up over the local area.

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 4/6/2006 10:50:34 AM | If you are in the Beaverton area, I would recommend a little Italian Place called Ernesto's. It is not too Expensive (maybe 15.00 per person aprox) and the food is great, the setting is kind of quiet and dimly lighted, For the romantic guy/girl it is perfect. It allows you to hold a nice conversation and get to know each other. Just make sure you are not in a rush as I have never eaten there in less than an hour and a half before. | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 2/22/2007 12:26:54 AM | Ernestos gets my vote! I have always had great service, charming servers, excellent food and perfect for getting aquainted.
A great place for coffee is an former Coffee People spot now called Java Nation they still offer all the cofee and goodies that Coffee Peole did under a new name. Located on 117th off Canyon Rd. kind of across from Fred Meyer. Sofas and chairs welcoming and nice for visit.
Going to the Oregon Zoo or Portland Rose Gardens over looking the city or Pittock Mansion for a picnic on the grounds. Maybe a walk along the boardwalk on the Willamette River downtown Portland orthe Columbia River boardwalk East of Who Song and Larrys across the river in Vancouver.
Just a couple of ideas? | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 3/4/2007 7:39:16 PM | If you are in the Grants Pass vicinity, I suggest almost anyplace on "G" Street. The Circle J has all organic and natural foods, great atmosphere...oh, did I mention they serve french fried sweet potatoes with their sandwiches??? YUM. There's Laughig Clam...they are kinda crowded and serve mostly fried foods but have great bands. I want someone to take me to the new Piano Bar...great menu and they play funky jazz in the evening.
Hurry up, honey...or I'll take one of my girl friends or go by myself!
Did I mention 1st fridays...thats fun.

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 5/14/2007 9:37:20 PM | What a great thread idea! Kudos!
The Edgefield in Troutdale is an all-time hit for a date. It's like an adult amusement park/bar. See: http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=3
The Charthouse in SW Portland is very romantic and upscale with a wide night view of Portland from the west hills.
Merikesh in NW is great for something different. I'm not too happy with their current location and atmosphere as in the past. They used to have darker, quieter more private areas instead of the small noisy room currently being used. This is a very sensuous experience, eating with your hands, sitting on pillows.
I used to like Brasserie in Portland, but I hear it's been closed, which is making me pout. An artistic person could impress their date by rendering artwork while waiting for the order. It was quite classy with entertainment as well. Now where the hell am I supposed to go to show off my artistic sensibilities?
The Mission theater is cool because you can have a tasty microbrew in the theater. So is the Kennedy School in N.E. PDX for the same reason. Notice the pattern: The Mecmenamins know how to create eclectic atmosphere!
That's my Portland list. I remember many places I used to like that became messed up, such as the piano bar called Atwaters that used to be at the top of the tallest building downtown. Now it sucks up there.
I'd love to hear more recent ideas for romantic restaraunts that come close to the unique experiences offered above.

| Coast Posted: 5/14/2007 9:42:08 PM | Want a real romantic trip to the coast?
In Newport, stay at the Sylvia Beach Hotel (author-themed rooms...amazingly interesting...sleep in Poe's room, or Dr. Suess), be sure to make reservations for their special dinners. Another trip, stay at the Embarcadero in a bay-view room as close to the channel as possible. Be sure and dine at the Rogue Brewery (under the Newport bridge, not the outlet on the boardwalk). I swear that some of their high octane beer on tap will not give you a hangover.
For breakfast, drive north to Lincoln City and eat at the Inn at Spanish head. Always great eggs bennedict. A window seat puts you seven stories above the coastline right over the surf.

| Fun first dates/meetings Posted: 7/12/2007 2:13:47 AM | I really feel lucky to have had a number of really GREAT first meetings/dates.
My friend David took me to Florence for brunch and we happened upon a car show. Walked through town, ate brunch, then down to the beach to talk and get to know one another better.
Outdoor concerts - went to two last summer for first meetings. Met at the gate, listened to music, visited, had dinner afterwards. Very low key and you don't feel so "on the spot" for having to talk til your throats dry. :)
A walking/eating/drink date through downtown Eugene was a fun date. Met at the brewery on 5th street, walked to OES for appetizers and wine. Then off to search out music, more food, drinks, more walking, more music, more food and drink. A variety of environments and interesting conversations along the way. I think that first meeting lasted about 9 hours.
Truly, in Oregon, there are options for everyone's tastes and budgets and time allowances. Good luck, and keep sharing the GREAT ideas.

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 9/27/2007 8:39:13 PM | I live in Eugene/Springfield but a great daytrip/date from almost anywhere is the Aquarium. The best part is it's on a little industrial loop next to the Rogue Brewery!
So you can have a relaxing day of nice coastal drives, taste some great microbrews, and learn about brewing if you like, and see all kinds of marine life.

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 10/10/2007 8:24:48 PM | I think this really depends on the two people involved and how much of a connection there is before the first face to face meeting.
I enjoy a few restaurants so far:
Kwans, Salem OR Cafe Yumm, Eugene OR Allejandro's (sp?) Italian Restaurant, Salem OR
I especially enjoy new experiences, particularly with restaurants that favor local and/or organic foods, healthy vegetarian choices (no fake meats), and/or wild alaskan fish. :)
Bon Appetit! | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 11/5/2007 2:54:06 AM | Khun Pic's Bahn Thai, 3429 Se Belmont omg best thai food in portland. get there at 17:50 they open at 18:00 and if your not ordering in the first 10 minutes your not eating in the first hour. The husband (Jon) does all the waiting/bussing and his wife from Thailand (Mary) does all the cooking. Its all fresh local produce and you should see the man jump when she rings that bell. She will throw out food that sits for more than about 2 minutes, and remake it if he's slow. vegetarian/vegan friendly
The Tao of Tea 3430 Se Belmont St Where I would much rather be than a Starbucks for a first date. There's 2 halves one serves food & tea (mostly poorly prepared appetizers) and the tea side. They will instruct you on the proper way to serve and enjoy each tea. 150 loose leaf tea's and the supplier to...
The classic chinese garden NW 3rd and everett
"Rimsky-Korsakoffeehouse: Home of the casually threatening atmosphere " 707 SE 12th (12th and Alder) coffeeshop, decadent deserts and pianobar dedicated to classic composers. open late. 2 of the tables are motorized, the large round one rotates at 1 turn an hour or so, its funny watching people slide there dishes to right all the time and know why. The other table is on a piston that travel about 14" up and down over an hour. Eventually you realize you have plastic grapes sitting your lap that weren't there before.
Sushi Takahashi, 24 Nw Broadway The little locomotive runs around with the dishes, its a cute sushi bar that won't break you.
Hokaido - japanese foods beyond sushi 6744 Northeast Sandy Blvd I wish the Braised burdock root appetizer came as a main dish.
Paradox Palace Cafe 3439 SE Belmont St Like walking into a diner in the midwest in 1950, only the food is vegan.
Little chapel of the chimes 430 N. Killingsworth St. wanna go get some beers at the mortuary?

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 11/26/2007 6:48:52 AM | | In Grants Pass I heartily recommend Miranda Mae's on G Street. On Friday and Saturday they have live entertainment featuring a baby grand piano. Their menu is absolutely superb, and for those who love dessert I can only say WOW. There is a martini bar for those who favor the current craze. This is an upscale 'supper club' modeled after the 50's elegant. May have more appeal for the 50+ set, but if you are younger and want to impress with a splash of class take her here. | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 11/29/2007 6:14:47 AM | | I have to recommend the Avalon Bar and Grill in Talent, off the I-5 at exit 21 and then west. Delicious food and live entertainment. Harkens bact to the 40' to 60's when live entertainment was everywhere and the volume did not pound you like a jackhammer. Smoke free inside is also a plus. You can view their menu, calendar by going to www.avalonbarandgrill.com. | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 12/14/2007 6:25:10 PM | | I just went to a restuarant below the falls in portland. I don't know how to spell the name of the falls but it started with an M. The food was great and the location could not have been more romantic. I give it a 5 star rating. | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 8/28/2008 1:08:40 AM | I live in Lincoln City and would never take anyone that I wanted to date again to Mo's, it's an overpriced, tourest trap.
I still think coffee dates are best for first meetings & conversations.
Good 2nd date restaurants on the coast would be Grateful Bread, Pacific City, Stephanies in Nye Beach, for view the Restaurant & Bar at Spanish Head, Lincoln City, or again view Flying Dutchman at Otter Rock or Tidal Raves at Depoe Bay (need reservations).

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 10/6/2008 5:49:22 PM | | In Portland, Newport Bay restaurant on the waterfront is very uptown, relaxing (it actually sits on the water), urban and reasonably priced. The food is delish (they have one of the best fish soups next to Mrs. McGrath's) and the salads are generous. I think you can never go wrong with seafood, one of my absolute favorites. And afterward, you can stroll along the boardwalk and window shop-very nice and a classy date. | |

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 1/11/2009 7:45:43 PM | I live in Southern Oregon, but it's not a complete backwater.
There are tiny Jacksonville's Big Four: Bella Union (nice bar with live music, too and not very expensive), Jacksonville Inn (5-star Restaurant), McCulley House Inn (haven't been there since they re-opened, but I'm sure they're a cut above, just because of the competition), and the new kid, The Carriage House (fancy-schmanzy, but reasonably priced, at the old Nunan House). I'm also biased, because all four are within walking distance of my house, so you can totally liquor me up safely, lol.
For a more casual meet, there's Howie's in downtown Medford, Shenanigan's, with their two bars, huge patio and live music, Four Daughter's, for a real Irish pub feel, and Habanero's, for good Mexican food and more live music.
I won't even get into Ashland, because there are more terrific restaurants and bars than I can list easily here. Just walk down the main drag and pop into whatever looks good!

| Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date Posted: 2/14/2009 12:14:11 PM | I live in the Tualatin area. If you're ever out this way, any of you; you need to check out the places at the Bridgeport Village. California Pizza Kitchen is fantastic Macaroni Grill has food reasonably priced and superb service Split ~ now this is the real true gem. It's kindof hidden in between a sushi place and a store. But this wine bar also has a full bar. The lighting is soft and the service is personal and attentive. The prices are not bad either.
I am out to explore new and old locations every weekend. I'll let you know good or bad that I find.
Or feel free to email me directly.
